Editing Battle of Damnatum Lutum

Yet another greentext collaborative storytelling / worldbuilding exercise in the 40K universe by /tg/, similar to [[Stercus Ludicrum]], [[Battle for Tiddius Majoris|Tiddius Majoris]], and many others, but this time with moderate amounts of coordination, and a heavy emphasis on fleshing out the region in which most of the action takes place, with one anon in particular going the extra mile. The original thread started out with the Imperials engaging Chaos in battle over a fortified hill and then the city Groxbridge (then renamed Skullheap, previously Groxbridge). Then it started to pour down rain, turning the entire battlefield into a muddy mess, hence the name "Damnatum Lutum" (Damned Mud). Over the course of [[What|11 threads and 7 REAL LIFE months and 3 days]], basically every major faction and several minor ones made planetfall and fought over many different regions of Lutum. (sorry Stannimposter if you were already working on a page, I got tired of waiting, feel free to edit this one).

There are 100+ minor and major reoccurring characters to keep track of if you want to go full autist, some of whom will disappear for entire threads only to reappear like nothing happened, be presented as a minor character for several threads before suddenly becoming a main character, receive lots of character development only to disappear mid-thread, never to return, etc.  The below section is extremely useful for keeping track of who is who, since even the most dedicated posters sometimes forgot. I tried to achieve a balance of humor and detail, with particular emphasis on noting when characters appear, disappear and reappear without giving away too much plot. Currently a work in progress. Feel free to add details. POV stands for Point of View, refers to posts and characters whose story is told in 1st person rather than from the point of view of other characters.  POV characters are generally the main characters with the most development.

*Iron Warriors flood the trench tunnel systems with sewage
*Orks return with a new fleet, attack both sides again, also the large naval fleet in orbit
*Necrons are awakened by bombardment start attacking everyone
*Titan gets into position near the bident and sets fire to everything, uses bident to wipe out a large chunk of the ork forces, including a stompa, then gets badly damaged by a chaos attack
*Debris from space battle starts crashing into the Groxbridge area, including the prow of a battleship
*Necrons unleash a C'tan shard and other reserve forces, C'tan shard uses bident to unleash havoc, mostly against the Orks, then absorbs energy from the crashing debris to free itself and turns on the Necrons.  Surviving Necrons flee with the bident
*Inquisitor demands additional orbital bombardment to area, bombardment finishes off the titan
*Between the fire wielding C'tan, falling space debris, and the orbital bombardment, pretty much everyone near the main battlefield is dead unless they were in fortified cover, and the previously muddy area is now a desert, Chaos forces are devastated and switch to guerrilla warfare, Orks retreat again
*Another titan shows up and blows the C'tan to bits with the help of the aeronautica (it doesn't actually die though)

*Local farmer incites angry loyalist mob to attack humans who ally with the Tau, declares himself Archbishop
*Rogue Necrons briefly unleashes the C'tan from the second thread again, before other Necron lock it back down.  The Navy rams a frigate into its location, apparently killing it once and for all
*After some mopping up in Groxbridge, a large chunk of the Imperials attack the Necron Tomb, retrieve the bident, and kill the Necron Lord
*A Rogue Trader kills the Ork Warboss in orbit, most of the Orks retreat
