==Background==
In 1976, Earth had begun its first manned missions to Mars, and by 1982, humans had begun to colonize the red planet. As only the rich and influential can afford to settle on Mars, these Martians soon become tired of playing by Earth’s rules. They secede from Earth’s control and eventually attack the home world in 1999. Earth was left as a smoldering wasteland completely subservient to Mars, who keeps the people of Earth alive purely for entertainment. The internet may be gone, but cable TV is still around and operated by the shady Network and their executive producer, David Logan. The Network provides Earth and Mars with a gory selection of televised blood sports and death games, the star of which is the eponymous “Gaslands”. Teams of reckless/insane/ambitious drivers compete in a variety of lethal challenges in the name of good TV. For the tenth anniversary of “Gaslands”, Mr. Logan is offering a special prize to the winning team…a free ticket to Mars. A chance to leave the decaying hell hole of Earth and start anew is definitely an appealing one, leading to a dizzying number of contestants entering the new season of “Gaslands”.
