=Year 1= Elkhart indiana survives the fallout largely unharmed, thanks to the fact that no one knows indiana exists. At year one all forms of government break down and the many gangs in the city realize they can now assume control. Leading to intermittent fighting through out Elkhart city. ==The National Guard.== Knowing from personal experience, I Know that the Southbend and Elkhart armouries are well equiped, well trained, and about 75% of those forces are vets that have been deployed multiple times. Thought that should be known as it would explain the next part. Absent of Official leadership the Airforce, Army Nat. Guard, And Marine Reserve, combine resources and decide make the area safer for those survivors caught between the gang wars. After some debate on what to do with the gangs in the area, the Joint Operations Force (JOF) figures they have two options A)Gather resources and wait it out hoping they kill themselves. Or B) Bring out the big guns, load said guns, and don't stop firing them till all targets are nothing more than twitching bodies. But gangs being normally hard to kill had already managed to murk most of the Police force and had secured the city jail, and using the fuck load of raw materials in all of the factories right in the city managed to fortify all the entrances and the surrounding buildings. Turning the whole area into nothing but a cluster fuck of mini fortresses. ( For those curious I know firsthand that there are an ass load of seasoned vets, a couple Ranger companies and a handful of Special Forces just within those two armouries. And for those thinking nasty girls are pansies fuck you these guys get shit done.)
