=== The Machine Mob === Only a set of characters in the same sense that the Occurrence Border itself is a character, as it is the collective Machine Spirits that make up the ship's myriad of barely-functional and disunified systems. Unlike the well-organized systems of most Imperial ships that present a single Machine Spirit, each individual system on the Border contributes one - or at least most of one - to the overall pandemonium as a whole. The cogboys and -girls serving on the Border quickly learned to not try and speak to the ship directly if they didn't want to risk...head-explodey-nonsense, instead dealing with it through either individual components or the many manual work-arounds. At least some of the Border's quirks can probably be blamed on them, though very few people could say for sure.
