== Why It Sucks == There's a reason why even TTS called the Beast Arises 'weird'. In no particular order, here's why it's widely hated among the fanbase: *SIX BEAST-GRADE ORKS emerging is a massively implausible event. They don't even get an origin story. *Speaking of which, the story just pulls 5 more Prime-Orks out of its ass. One of them only appears after his fellow Beast is killed during the second invasion of Ullanor. The others simply never appear anywhere in the story, let alone the actual battle for their homeworld. *The Fists Exemplar (Imperial Fists successors) siding with the Iron Warriors. No further explanation needed. *The idea of the Imperium experiencing so much peace it becomes complacent and lazy is incredibly stupid, considering the 1st Black Crusade took place about 600 years BEFORE the Beast War. *The Imperium doesn't try to exterminatus Ullanor until AFTER they take the planet and kill The Beast at insane cost. Considering they had multiple chances to do so during each battle and how desperate the Imperium was to stop the orks, this makes less sense even if you factor in Mechanicus politicking. *Despite being powerful Blanks capable of causing that lethal psychic overload against Orks, Culexus assassins are never used. Abdulias Anwar even asks why the Culexus weren't deployed in the WoTB alongside the Silent Sisterhood. While it would be awesome if it turned out to be an amazing long-con by Vangorich to make sure his enemies take the blame for their (and HIS) failures and justify his coup (thus making it more believable that he'd eventually go mad with power), the authors aren't competent enough to pull this off. It's more than likely just a plothole the author was dumb enough to inadvertently reveal. *Ork diplomats. *Conveniently, an entire planet's worth of Orks and The Beasts could be killed by using Sisters of Silence to overload a Wierdboy and cause a chain reaction of WAAAGH! Energy. Contrivance aside, this isn't even how WAAAGH! Energy works according to some books. *If the Inquisition knew Vulkan's exact location, why didn't they call him in sooner? He would've been extremely useful during, say, the 1st Black Crusade! He could've also been called to help the Imperium keep its shit together earlier. *The return of a living primarch should be a setting-defining event. In the Beast War, the existence of Vulkan is completely wasted. He just comes and goes, the reaction of the Salamanders is never shown, he never visits them, and barely takes a role in leadership. *The book makes a big deal about the OG Fists being wiped out even though they still had gene-seed stocks on Terra, and this was further retconned by the existence of the Primaris Marines. This whole thing turned into a narrative Cul-de-sac real fast. *Drakan Vangorich suddenly goes from 80 years of good governance to going mad with power after the strain of single-handedly leading the Imperium got to him. This whole thing is not only rushed (he suddenly goes mad after a massive timeskip between two chapters) but makes no sense. Vangorich committed [[The Beheading]] to CURB the excesses of those in high Imperial Office, only to end up committing them himself. He also shouldn't have to be leading the Imperium by himself, or else there was no point installing loyal puppets to positions of lordship. *The attempt to depose Vangorich is only successful because the last Eversor conveniently switches sides moments before it would've shanked a critically-injured Thane to death. *The Custodes are not involved in the war AT ALL or during the move to depose Vangorich, despite Terra being directly threatened. *The infamous case of Eldar diplomacy, where Harlequins kill their way through the Imperial Palace while pleading for friendship. *Centurion Warsuits were employed during the final assault on Ullanor. These things weren't supposed to be in existence until after the [[Age of Apostasy]]. *The 3 consecutive invasions of Ullanor come off as some weird back and forth which shouldn't have even been possible for the Imperium to pull off given how supposedly powerful the orks were at this point. *Zerberyn being able to cover up (or at least be in a better position to explain) his actions on Prax required ordering the Guilliman to shoot down the gunship Penitence. He convinced the Guilliman to do this by lying about it being commandeered by local milita, and the crew of the Guilliman just blindly go along with it without even asking how such a thing was possible under the circumstances or any verification that it even happened. *Armageddon was retconned by this series into being Ullanor, which was teleported.
