==History== ''/b/ was never good... but it was certainly better!'' [[/b/]] was the first board on 4chan, officially launched on October 1st, 2003, although the site was up a few days prior. Before the creation of /a/ a month later, /b/ held the title of "/b/ - Anime/Random" after which it simply became "/b/ - Random" and has stayed so ever since. /b/ was always a paragon of anarchy with a "no rules" policy, and has had a dismal signal-to-noise ratio. That is not to say that all /b/ threads are bad, but it does mean that finding them is like searching for rhinestones in a sea of manure and piss. /b/ is the largest and fastest 4chan board, and is often the board that represents all of 4chan in news reports about {{Anonymous}} hackers and bullies; the distinction between 4chan and /b/ is seldom made. /b/ is also the board most likely to greet new 4chan users, who are eventually expected to migrate to other boards after an acclimation period. The migration may be a result of the individual realizing that /b/ has very little to offer them, or it may be due to the formation of new boards. [[/tg/]] is a direct result of /b/'s Warhammer Wednesdays, for example. Sweeping generalizations of large populations are seldom accurate, but it is safe to say that /b/ has the air of an immature teenager with a can of spray-paint and a lighter. Characterizing /b/ is difficult, to say the least, but the wild-card persona may mean that any representation of him (or her, even) could work. Villain, foil, horde, punching bag, or supernatural conglomerate entity would all be acceptable.
