===Background=== Wendall Smile was, for all intents and purposes, a fairly regular guy. He had average childhood, complete with a Father, a Mother, a younger brother, and a younger sister. His parents were kind and loving, but were unfortunately not well educated. They worked hard, and long - leaving him to take care of his younger siblings. This is where he first got his feet wet in the wonderful world of helping people not bleed. It's actually, also, of course where he got the nickname "Band-aid," since he often carried a small pack of them - just in case. Eventually, after high school, he found work as an EMT. He used the money from the job, and of course the invaluable experience to help himself through Medical School. He eventually graduated as a surgeon several years later. No longer needing to be an EMT for the money, he of course did the logical thing... and opted to work in the area where the EMT-patients usually ended up on arrival at the hospital. Triage. The hectic manner of the emergency clinic shaped his already rather calm composure into a work of utter art. He became totally capable of ignoring everything around him, while still keeping it in mind to prevent further injuries. At length, the stress of the job only furthered his detachment from the world... but nothing could prepare him when 'they' started coming into the emergency surgery. Patients, who had been completely flayed of their skins but somehow left alive and otherwise uninjured. Their screams echoed in his ears and while he tried to find everything and anything that could help them - even his prodigious methods of ignoring what he had to do began to falter. He started seeing... patterns, in the patients after those first few Skinless ones. There were some with inexplicable bite marks - who had far less blood in them than they should. Eventually... he stopped not listening, and started asking the patients what had happened. Most of the other doctors and nurses called their stories "Impossible and likely the result of shock." But... Wendall was not so easily convinced. Then the day came, that he entered the triage. The young scholar, a pharmaceutical tech whom Wendall knew from med school had the entirety of his left arm ripped out. After they finished the surgery, and eventually he came to, Wendall was actually visiting his room. They caught up on old times, and - of course, Wendall asked what had happened. The young man explained - in detail... that he had been researching some new drugs with a company he could not name to help deal with 'supernatural' threats. The research facility had been attacked.. by what, he did not know. He bade Wendall to forget about it, it wasn't his fight after all. But... he could not very well sit by, day after day in the Emergency Clinic treating people... what if, one day, his parents were attacked... or his younger siblings... or his friends. That day, that instant, Wendall joined the Vigil.
