The Assassin Vine or Choke Creeper is a predatory vine in Dungeons & Dragons. It drapes itself across tree branches, and grabs any animal that gets within its 30-foot range - to drop below it, for more nutrients. Yeah, it's another Gotcha Monster, here from the third-edition Monster Manual. The 3e version goes for Entangle / Grab / Constrict, although some venomous varieties may exist in house-rules. Most people believe at least the fruit is poison. (Charles Darwin would suggest that when the fruit is in season, the assassin-vine won't be attacking anybody. When it's underripe - well, you deserve what's coming to you.) If you find yourself with assassin-vine fruit, even ripe, good luck selling it. Although, as with blowfish in Japan, canny vinters count on the legend of danger to sell fermented beverages of this. As for implementations, perhaps the most interesting spinoff is the Eden Studios' / Matthew Colville Forest Slayer. This is a whole mobile colony of the bloody things, wandering their forests like treants. Midgard's Southlands has a line in assassin vintage also. ==Gallery== <gallery> Choke creeper MCV2.jpg|2e Assassin vine 5e.png|5e Assassin vine skeleton.png|Pathfinder Assassin vine hangman.png|Rogue Genius Games (3rd Party) </gallery>
