Bacar are a race of sapient, humanoid ants native to the Anchorome region of the Forgotten Realms. Originally, they were a semi-sapient race of barely uplifted giant ants which had been placed as custodians over a terrible creature known as H'Calos, the Star Worm. However, when greedy, foolish humans released the Star Worm, the surviving bacar were left alive, but devoid of a purpose. Finally, they reverted to instinct - the need to wander and reproduce reared its head, and the bacar left their former prison-hold. Unfortunately, this wandering coincided with great plagues of giant ants that ravaged the jungles of Maztica, and the poor bacar were blamed for it. The bacar of Anchorome descend from a queen who sought to encourage individuality in her broods, and whilst this added chaos that her other, more oppressive sisters didn't have to deal with, it gave her people greater flexibility and intelligence - which allowed them to escape from Mazitca and flee across the northern deserts to settle in what is now known as the Land of the Insect Men. Here, they founded the Towers of Anu'Naki, and have prospered ever since. There's just one little problem... the bacar are getting bored. Having been made for a purpose that they have since outlived, you now have a naturally driven, dutiful race that has no real duty to uphold. Some bacar are pushing for wars of expansion against their neighbors, the thri-kreen and the abeil, but many more are becoming adventurers, wandering off into the wilderness in search of a purpose - at the least for themselves, if not for their race as a whole. Adventuring bacar tend to be followers, not leaders; they are of the biological castes of workers and warriors, after all. Whilst their mannerisms tend to be strange and offputting, their loyalty cannot be doubted. ==5e PC Stats== ::Ability Score Increase: +2 Strength ::Size: Medium ::Speed: 30 feet ::Bacar-Speak: Bacar communicate through a combination of pheromones (only bacar can understand, 90ft range) and short-ranged (30ft) telepathy - in times of great stress, they can unleash a telepathic "shout" that reaches all thinking minds in 90 feet, but can only be used once per rest. ::Mental Fortitude: You have Resistance to Psychic Damage. ::Bite: You have a Bite attack that does Piercing damage; 1d4 + Str bonus for a Worker, 1d6 + Str bonus for a Warrior. ::Subrace: Choose either the Worker (+1 Intelligence and Cooperative Intelligence - Advantage on Int saves and Skill Checks if within telepathic range of another bacar) or Warrior (+1 Constitution and Hearty - once per day, survive an attack that would reduce you to 0 HP by only dropping to 1 HP) subraces.
