It paid well - or at least well enough - and a generous stipend was plenty for him to attend a prestigious school up on the Isle, teaching everything from the odd herbal remedy and spiritual acupuncture to extensive and often messy surgeries. He practiced marksmanship in his spare time - self-defense was never unimportant, after all. Finishing his education, he returned and opened an office back in Chiaroscuro, maintaining a reputable business for a few years. He was bright, he helped others, he was compassionate, he made a healthy living for himself, and he made his family happy enough with how he was doing. He was also naive. It was two years ago. Late winter, a man had come in. Mid-thirties, healthy frame. Sick with...something unknown. Something deadly. Something painful. There wasn't a known cure, or even a treatment: no matter what they tried, his condition only became worse and worse. Violent convulsions, sores, coughing, nausea, severe aches, fever..like every known disease packed into some kind of torturous, hardened killer. It wasn't even certain how long he'd last, or if it'd even have the mercy to finish him off at all. His name was Simhata-eye Abquar. The treatment was to end his life; something he himself had requested. Virtuous had...had to comply. It was more than just the man's suffering; what if the disease spread if he had kept on? Late that night, Virtuous concealed the man. Took him to an alleyway. A quick knife to the throat; a thorough burning to make sure whatever was in him stayed dead. It had to be done; he, as a server of the people, didn't get a say. There wasn't any other option. He did what he had to do. ...Right? Virtuous trudged through the hot sands of the Southern desert, alone. He'd brought the most important of his supplies, and as much of his money as he could carry. Going back wasn't an option any more: someone had found the remains body, assumed the worst. The guards had come with their arrest warrants. All the evidence went back to him - in one night, he had gone from mankind's beneficiary to some sort of cold-blooded monster, or at least that was all they cared. And really, who would believe his story? Besides, either way, he'd done it, regardless of intent. Even he couldn't argue that. On the fifth day, he encountered another traveler; heavily-wounded and under attack by a desert coyote. Virtuous rushed to his aid, fighting off the animal in a rush of adrenaline and quickly carrying the man to the nearest shade he could find, quickly setting down his instruments as he rushed to work, hands moving like quicksilver. The man looked up. "...W-who are you, son?" "You shouldn't be straining yourself to talk, in this condition," Virtuous replied calmly, brow tense and hands fast at work. "*cough* Y...you're glowing..y-you a god or...somethin'..?" Virtuous paused, if only for a few seconds. His hands kept working without him. "...No. But it seems like someone's expecting me to act like one, these days..now please, rest already. I don't want you making your condition any worse." The two traveled together, for a short while. There were short conversations, though the stranger was still much too wounded to be carrying on like he was. They arrived at a small tribal settlement a few days later. Virtuous and the wounded man walked together; he was still limping, and had to use the doctor for support, but..his condition had improved amazingly fast, for the kind of blows he had taken. "You're sure you're fine now? If you really insist, there's probably someone around here who'll guide you back, whatever they want, I should probably be able to afford-" A tall man suddenly grabbed Virtuous from the shoulder, stopping him in his tracks as he accosted him. "Virtuous Master's?" "Yes. What do you need?" Virtuous' face suddenly took on a look of concern. "You're under arrest. One count murder, one count resisting arrest. Put the man down and come quietly. Resist again, and we will apply lethal force." Several more guards began to step out of the woodworks. "Come quietly, and you'll get to live...for at least a little longer." === Appearance === Standing just at six feet tall, Virtuous appears as a rather well-to-do man in his mid-20's, clad in a simple white button-up shirt, black slacks with wavy gold embroidering, and a heavy, black, buckle-up longcoat with similar designs, and a heavy leather belt around his waist holding everything from firewand munitions to simple medicines. Emerald green eyes, at once sharp with purpose, yet warm and welcoming, gaze out from his clean-featured face; fair-skinned, by southern standards, but definitely by no means pale, with well-kept, auburn hair. His build is lean; relatively-healthy, though by no means one of a stunning athlete. One might have mistaken him as quite the bourgeois young gentleman, at one point or another, but the wear of a nomadic lifestyle, his casual demeanor, and the heavy, well-polished firewand strapped around his back do quite a bit to say otherwise. It also has a single band which must be powered by a level 2 solar or wood hearthstone, commit five motes, and wrap it around wounded areas with a difficulty 3 (Dex+Med) roll. If successful, the patient falls into a deep trance and regenerates any crippled or lost body parts within an hour (Exalts) or 3 hours (Mortals). (Commit: 5m) *Wound-Mending Needles Automatically heals bashing damage at a rate of 1B/minute for 1m each, or 1L/minute for 3M each, using (Perception+Medicine), Difficulty 1 on others or 3 for oneself. For 1WP and 5m per level of damage, the user may heal Aggrivated with a roll at Difficulty 3 (others), 5 (self). *Rod of Cleansing the Body User may treat normal diseases or infections with one mote and a (Perception+Medicine) roll at the normal difficulty to cure, reducing the difficulty by 1 for each additional mote spent.
