The Daeva are the “Sexy” Clan in Vampire: The Requiem, being very much the romanticised Anne Rice-esque image of the Vampire that the Toreador inhabited in Requiem’s WoD Counterpart (and fittingly, the Toreador are a Daeva Bloodline in VtR). However, like most Clans in Requiem, they are much more open-ended in what they can be like - their only unifying theme is Passion, which encompasses everything from Fierce Brawlers to Sensual Social Butterflies. Their Bane is that they get addicted easily, often getting way too attached to specific mortals. ==Notable Bloodlines== ===Erzsébet=== Inspired by Countess Elizabeth Bathory, alleged to bathe in blood to restore her youth and beauty (for the record, we're pretty sure the blood bathing thing is a myth; if anything, she was just a serial killer), and indeed founded by a woman who claimed to be a descendant of Countess Bathory. The founder, named Syska (but taking on other names as convenient; when she claimed to be Bathory's descendant, she called herself Rózsa), was driven into exile by the older vampires she conned, and she and her childer were dubbed Erzsébet after her claimed founder. This clan's Bane is that, much like Bathory herself, these vampires age as mortals do, though they do not die of old age. Blood baths do not restore them, however; the only way for their youth to return is to enter Torpor. ===Toreador=== Basically the good old artsy vampires from Masquerade, ported over to Requiem. Their weakness remains the same; when confronted with something they see as truly beautiful, they become utterly captivated by it and will not willingly break away their attention. ===Duchagne=== Emerging from the bourgeoisie of 1765 France, the Duchagne, or "Bacchantes", are essentially the stereotypical (1e) Daeva turned up to eleven. Their Bloodline curses them with supernaturally potent ennui, causing them to suffer a penalty to extended efforts or repeated actions, but also imbues them with the unique Discipline of Licencieux, which enables them to manipulate the senses of others. This is a lot more dangerous than it sounds. ===Xiao=== The Xiao are one of the oddities of The Chosen, and basically owe their origin to the fact that all the Bloodlines in the book were originally created by fan-submission; White Wolf held a contest challenging fans to submit their own interpretations of specific bloodline concepts, and there were two submissions for the Xiao (vampires able to drain emotions) that the authors liked equally well. So they just said "fuck it" and posted them both. The California Xiao descend from a mad Asian Daeva who moved to California and started a cult, from which his bloodline developed like scum in a boiling pot of poison. They are all literally sociopaths, even by vampire standards; they suffer a -2 penalty to Empathy, Expression and Socialize tests, and if placed in a situation where they are called upon to display compassion or remorse, they fail so badly they potentially risk flying into a Rage Frenzy! Their signature Discipline, Kingjan, allows them to manipulate and outright drain emotions from others, enthralling mortals or weaker vampires like a cult. The Tianpan Xiao descend from an ancient Chinese Daeva from the Qing Dynasty who loathed his Clan's enthrallment to their baser urges. His efforts to rid himself of the curse instead only made it worse, causing him to become afflicted with uncontrollable intense and erratic emotions - a trait passed down to his childer. These Xiao are terrible at making Composure checks, and particularly likely to develop Manic Depression, Phobia and Hysteria derangements. They try to compensate with their signature Discipline, Xinyao, which lets them enflame and manipulate the emotions of others. ===Anvari=== Proof that vice can survive even undeath, the Anvari are descendants of an opium addict so thoroughly besotted with narcotics that he found he could only draw full nourishment from opiate-laced blood, a curse he passed on to his childer. At least he also gave them the gift of Nepenthe, a Discipline that allows them to manipulate the blood chemistry of others. ===Nelapsi=== A strange strain that originated in Czechoslovakia, these vampires are cursed with supernaturally ravenous appetites; they burn Blood Potency Vitae just upon waking, instead of the usual 1 Vitae! Arrogant, proud and cruel, they have no unique Disciplines, but have picked up some strange Devotions in their reclusive home. ===The Carnival=== Created when a vampire stumbled across a traveling sideshow freak who had been so abused that she begged him for death, the Carnival are vampires cursed with extreme mutation. As in, you have to take either an incurable physical impairment of some kind, or the Nosferatu clan weakness because you are just that freaky looking. The Discipline they call simply "The Show" is a poor man's Vicissitude, allowing them to warp and deform their already twisted bodies into even more monstrous guises. ===Children of Judas=== Judas Iscariot is best known for being a prick and setting up his teacher to get executed, but he's also known for committing suicide after being stricken with remorse, and that's the part of his story these vamps take their name from. Created by embracing dying suicides, the Suicide Kings are still haunted by the lingering echoes of the pain that drove them to embrace death, which compels them to explore and goad the emotional suffering of others. Combined with their Discipline of Despond, which can flood a mind with potentially lethal despair, and these are vampires that even other vampires consider to be creepy-ass fuckers. If too many gather in one place, they're generally run out of town before the increase in suicide levels gets the mortals suspicious. ===Amara Havana=== Claiming, like most Indian vampires, to be an unfortunate side-product of the war between the goddess Durga and the asura lord Mahishasura, the Amara Havana are the pinnacle of the kshatriya caste. Unfortunately, this pride in themselves as the divinely-chosen warrior-kings of Indian Kindred made them vulnerable to internecine strife during the Age of Treachery. Vampires of this bloodline leave illusory bloody handprints on whatever they touch, but they also have access to the unique discipline of Sakti Pata, which lets them manipulate their blood into a physical weapon. ===Septemi=== Part bloodline, part fledgeling covenant, the Septemi are deeply religious vampires who reject the teachings of the Lancea et Sanctum and seek to actively replace it, promoting their own message that vampires are chosen by God to shield and protect humanity from the worse things lurking in the shadows. The Lancea et Sanctum despises them, especially because their unique discipling of Abjurism grants them the ability to counter and protect against all manner of magic, including the blood-fueled miracles of the Lancea. However, the Septemi suffer with an inherent calling to both the heights and depths of humanity; in addition to the standard Daeva weakness, they also must spend 2 Willpower to resist the urge to engage in any virtuous act that would normally refill their Willpower, even if they've already benefited from that once-per-day effect. ===Kinnaree=== Dating back to the First Kingdom of Thailand, these vampires believe themselves to be chosen by Durga to ultimately slay the Asura and Devi both when those races grow too old and feeble to continue their duties. As such, they believe frenzy is a holy gift given from their patron goddess, and so treat "riding the wave" of frenzy as another vice for their Daeva weakness. ===En=== Symbiotically linked with soul-eating demons called alu, the En were the rulers of Babylon for the myriad powers their alu symbionts gave them, most notably the ability to indulge in diablerie without fear of consequences... save that they might make their demon too strong, allowing it to devour them from the inside out and take their place. Combined with their natural sociopathy (-3 penalty to untrained Social skills, can't take 10-again on non-discipline-activating Empathy, Persuasion or Socialize rolls) and it should be no wonder that most believe they devoured themselves to the last when Babylon fell. ===Kallisti=== Vampires who specialize in sowing dissent and betrayal using their signature discipline Perfidy, hence why they're named after the inscription ('Kallisti' being Greek for 'for the fairest') on the Apple of Discord. They're the ultimate intrigue masters, but their strength is also a critical flaw- since they're so focused on breaking bonds, they can't form blood bonds of their own. Since the chance of blood bond is the main reason that most vampires are cautious of drinking their fellows' Vitae, a Kallisti whose bloodline is found out has a very high chance of being kidnapped and kept as a consequence-free food source for their elders. NWoD Clans
