Flandal is part of the "2nd generation" of gnomish gods; the first wave of [[gnome]] deities created in the article "The Gnomish Point of View" in [[Dragon Magazine]] #61 to serve under the chief gnome god, [[Garl Glittergold]], who had debuted in the ''Deities & Demigods Cyclopedia''.
