Owlfolk are a potential race in Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, which debuted in the Unearthed Arcana article for March 2021, "Folk of the Feywild"; it's anybody's guess if they'll end up becoming official. Essentially, they're a throwback to the Hsiao of the ancient era of BECMI; they're a Feywild-dwelling race of humanoid owls. Unfortunately, as a UA-only race, there's not a lot to really say about 'em; this is literally the entirety of their official lore: ::Distant kin of giant owls, owlfolk come in many shapes and sizes, from petite and fluffy to widewinged and majestic. Owlfolk have arms and legs like other Humanoids, as well as wings that extend from their back and shoulders. ::Because of their ancestral tie to the Feywild, owlfolk can innately see the magic of their surroundings. Like owls, owlfolk are graced with feathers that make no sound when they move or fly, making it easy for them to sneak up on you in the library. ::Your owlfolk character might be nocturnal. Or perhaps your character is simply prone to rise later, embodying the common nickname of night owl. Mechanically, owlfolk have the following traits: ::Ability Score Modifier: +2 to one ability score of your choice and +1 to a second ability score of your choice, or +1 to three different ability scores of your choice ::Creature Type: Humanoid ::Size: Medium or Small (choose at character creation) ::Base Speed: 30 feet ::Darkvision: 90 feet ::Magic Sight: You can cast Detect Magic as a ritual without spending a spell slot, using either Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma. You also can cast it normally if you sacrifice an appropriate spell slot. ::Nimble Flight: You have a Fly speed of 30 feet, and when you fall, you can use your Reaction to make a DC 10 Dexterity save to stop falling and instead fly in place until the start of your next turn. ::Silent Feathers: Free Proficiency in Stealth.
