oldschool Oregon Trail is /v/shit well known among Americans of a certain age, especially west of the Mississippi. They played this game at school because it was at least more fun and educational than sitting through an American history lecture preached by the football coach. Actual diverticulitis might have been more fun and educational than that. But you're on /tg/. The Quest is in which players would try to successfully complete an entire Oregon Trail session. It introduced a few seemingly novel concepts, like restricting choice of actions and almost-exclusive interaction through images. == Information == * Author: W. Irving. * Length: 3 threads. * Running Time: 12th of February, 2009. * Status: Finished. * Categories: Simulation; Limited choices. * Original Art: No, but uses screencaps. == Threads == Threads have been archived, but not tagged properly. Thus, they're listed below. {| class="wikitable" |- ! Link ! Topic ! Date |- | Thread 1 | Oregon Trail 1 | 12th of February, 2009 |- | Thread 2 | Oregon Trail 2 | 12th of February, 2009 |- | Thread 3 | Oregon Trail Warhammer 40k | 12th of February, 2009 |} == How It's Played == The Quest Master would upload screencaps of the game's current status. Players would choose the next course of action to take, being restricted only by the in-game mechanics inherent to it being a computer game. So in a sense, this was probably one of the very first quests where the Quest Master would restrict the available options to the players. The written interactions between Quest Master and players were limited to filling any gaps or correcting any mistakes that occurred during the thread. The almost-exclusive use of pictures was another seemingly novel concept for its time, since other quests running back then made equal use of images and written text. == Characters == If anything, players assume the role of the person who's playing the computer game in question. == Summary == Best way to know what happened is to read the threads. Not exactly easy to summarize a gaming session, even if it was done through an interface such as /tg/. == Additional Information == Check out Wikipedia's article on the computer game. == Gallery == <gallery> File:Oregon Trail Start Screen.png|Glorious OP Screen File:Oregon Trail Warhammer 40k.png|Humble beginnings for the Emperor File:Oregon Trail Death.png|RIP File:Oregon Trail Diseased Emperor.png|Goodbye Emperor </gallery>
