dnd-stub NeedsImages The Reigar are a mysterious and incredibly powerful race of androgynous humanoids native to Spelljammer. Defined culturally by their fixation on art for the sake of art, the Reigar are absolute masters of all magical fields relating to creation and change, including transmutation, construct-building, and fleshcrafting. They are so obsessed with art that legend has it they destroyed their own homeworld to create the ultimate one-of-a-kind artistic display, a feat they call "The Master Stroke", and then dispersed across Wildspace. Traveling the universe in their Esthetics, living ships symbiotically linked to their creators, Reigars are usually served by a small army of Helot's (golem-esque clones of various humanoids and monsters) and Lakshu (an enslaved race of Amazon clone-warriors), though they may also be attended by various constructs. If forced to battle, Reigars usually carry at least one Figurine of Wondrous Power and sometimes more, as well as a unique variant of the concept called a Shakti, which can change from a trinket or ornament into either a vehicle or a magical armor plus weapon combination set. The Reigar code of conduct is said to go thus: “Anything for art, nothing without style, and everyone for himself”. In 4th edition, the Reigar are mentioned in passing in the Player's Option: Heroes of the Elemental Chaos splatbook, which gives them a brand new identity. In the World Axis, the Reigar were a culture of humanoids who had both a natural affinity for chaos sorcery and a culture that revered personal freedom, expression and artistry above all other values. These traits led them into the Elemental Chaos, where they mastered the powers of primordial chaos to such an extent they became nothing less than a race of gods, able to create, change and transform on such a vast scale that they could give form to planets, races and pantheons as they saw fit. TO avoid stagnation, they came together and created a sentient, self-guiding force that would endlessly reach through the multiverse until it found mortals with the brilliance and personality to be uplifted into the ranks of the Reigar. This was handled mechanically as the "Lord of Chaos" Epic Destiny. 5th edition saw the Reigar return in their original form, albeit with a few minor tweaks. Now said to have evolved from a cephalopod-like race, the Reigar of 5e value war as much as they do artwork. Whilst they still ply the Astral Sea in their Esthetics, there is no mention of the Helots or Lakshu, and their special Shakti have now been renamed Talariths for some reason.
