dnd-stub The Eternal Order is a deity worshipped in the domain of Darkon in the Dungeons & Dragons setting of Ravenloft. It is the state religion of that domain in 2nd edition, although its popularity is waning sharply in 3rd edition. Expanded details on the deity, and particularly the variant sect found in the undead city of Necropolis, are presented in the Ravenloft Gazetteer II. The religion was originally codified by Azalin Rex as a tool of social control. The Eternal Order is a death and undead-centric religion that preaches that the living stole the land of Darkon from the dead, who will eventually reclaim it in the Hour of Ascension. The church took a major hit after their claim that the Great Upheaval was the Hour of Acension, which came because of the weak faith of the Darkonese. This just made said weak faith weaker and shattered the hold the Church had over the hearts of the people. The Eternal Order worships several death-related deities of other religions, and rituals mostly consist of trying to appease the dead to delay the Hour of Ascension.
