Typhon is one of the most important monsters in Classical Mythology. Husband of the more well-known Echidna, he is the biological father of many of Classic Myth's most famous monsters, as well as a Titan-like abomination of distant relation to Zeus. Son of Gaia, the Earth Goddess, and Tartarus, the Greek version of Hell, his appearance has varied, but the most common depiction is of an absolutely enormous fire-breathing giant with wings, "serpent's coils below the waist" (either having the body of a giant snake for a lower torso, ala a lamia, or multiple serpent tails or serpent bodies (complete with heads) in lieu of legs), and sometimes one, fifty or a hundred draconic heads. He may also be described as having serpents for hair, like Medusa, and/or multiple arms. He challenged Zeus for control over the multiverse and was imprisoned under a mountain. If you're looking for the Death Guard special character who originally went by this name, see Typhus. dnd-stub NeedsImages ==Typhon of Midgard== In the Midgard setting for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition and Pathfinder 1st Edition by Kobold Press, Typhon is a Demon Prince covered in the Creature Codex. Here, he is presented as a fiendish giant with draconic wings from the waist up, with writhing clusters of serpents in lieu of hands and two serpent tails, one green and one white, in lieu of legs. The ruler of the Abyssal layer of Tarkoros, a realm of dense forests and rocky hills, he has been imprisoned by the powers of good at the center of a labyrith of tunnels and caverns that riddle the giant mountain at the heart of Tarkoros, and his burning obsession is to find the key to undo the curses binding him in place so he can leave Tarkoros and ravage the multiverse once more. Typhon is known as the Father of Monsters, because he has the ability to spawn Aberration, Dragon, Monstrosity and Ooze-type creatures at will from nothingness. He is also known as the Father of Lamia; whilst conventional wisdom is that he wasn't the Demon Prince who originally created them, he is fascinated with this monstrous race above all others and has eagerly both created his own servants based on them and sought to seduce them into his worship. Lamias aligned with or created by Typhon can typically be distinguished by having a lower body different to the typical lion; serpent-bodied lamias are the most common, but Typhonian lamias with the bodies of boars, crocodiles, sharks and spiders have all been seen. Planeswalkers are well-represented amongst Typhon's cultists, and are usually treasure-seekers who tried to steal from his prison-lair in Tarkoros, got caught, and now have to try and find a way to free Typhon in order to preserve their own lives.
