Werecats, as their name suggests, are the feline counterpart to werewolves; any of the number of therianthrope strains able to assume the form of a member of the feline family. They are particularly prolific in Dungeons & Dragons, which is home to a large extended family of feline shifters. The term "werecat" is generally used as a catch-all term for any of these werefelines, but can sometimes refer to its own specific strain of therianthrope as well. ==Forgotten Realms== The Forgotten Realms are home to a species of "true" werecats, generally devoted to the worship of Sharess. These feline therianthropes are able to assume the form of wildcats - the small, non-domesticated species, such as ocelots. Faerunian werecats debuted in Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition, in the splatbook "Hall of Heroes". They were updated to Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition in the splatbook "Monsters of Faerun", and "Lost Empires of Faerun". Maztica is home to Werecougars, which are described as fundamentally akin to weretigers, but with the forms of cougars instead. No, literally; their entire entry boils down to a name and "As Weretiger, but assumes Cougar form". Their only appearance to date has been in the "City of Gold" splatbook for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition. ==Werewolf: The Apocalypse== In Werewolf: The Apocalypse, feline therianthropes collectively known as the Bastet are one of the Changing Breeds who survived the great slaughter by the werewolves. They are currentlyorganized into the following distinct tribes: * Bagheera - Werepanthers/Wereleopards of Africa and Asia * Balam - Werejaguars of South America * Bubasti - Werekyphur of Egypt * Khan - Weretigers of Asia * Pumonca - Werecougars of North America * Qualmi - Werelynxes of North America * Simba - Werelions of Africa and Gir in India, * Swara - Werecheetahs of Africa. There were also the Ceilican, Fae-tied werecats of Europe, but most died out hundreds of years ago. What remained were further decimated (or turned) by the Black Spiral Dancers recently. There may be a handful of them left untainted, but probably an equal handful left that now stand beside the Dancers as the Hellcats. One last "Tribe" may get a mention: the Khara were the Sabretooths of North America. They may have been the first Tribe, or may not. Since they were killed by an Ice Age, that may never be known. ==Werecats with their own page== * Tibbet * Werecheetah * Werejaguar * Wereleopard * Werelion * Werepanther * Weretiger
