The Gurl is a mythic creature most Dungeons & Dragons players will never get to meet. The Garl on the other hand was a prehistoric offshoot from some pre-Neanderthal past. Where they are found, they are on the ogre or hill giant template: ten feet tall, stupid, and overall Frazetta Man.

Garls first appeared in CM6: Where Chaos Reigns as rivals to humanity's ancestors, uplifted by the oards just far enough to be a credible threat. Since these monsters are on the lost-world template, Ritchie and Arneson couldn't resist adding some to the DA3: City of the Gods south of Blackmoor.

Given how the niche is well-occupied by hill giants, ogres, and several others... yeah your players aren't likely to meet garls, either.
