Short for intelligence. In Dungeons & Dragons, this (like every other statistic) is an ability score with a range from 3 to 18, or 8 to 27 if you play some WotC Munchkin version.

It measures how smart, or how not-retarded, you are. People who have it can put on their robe and wizard hat and speak the languages of monsters (which will be killed without parlay anyway).
