This article or section is about something oldschool - and awesome.
Make sure your rose-tinted glasses are on nice and tight, and prepare for a lovely walk down nostalgia lane.

The Greyhawk Classics was a line of Dungeons & Dragons fiction stories released around the late 80s/early 90s to novelize the most iconic 1970s-era modules. We got seven of these.

They started Greyhawk but as you see, B2 snuck in there, which had been done for Tom Moldvay's system therefore generic - Known World, if anything. (Although, yeah, E. Gary Gygax did write the original.) Rumor has it that an eighth volume, a novelization of Expedition to the Barrier Peaks by Roland Green, was planned before the line was scrapped.

Aside from the books written by Paul Kidd, the novels are treated as separate from each other.

  1. Against the Giants, Ru Emerson
  2. White Plume Mountain, Paul Kidd
  3. Descent into the Depths of the Earth, Paul Kidd
  4. The Temple of Elemental Evil, Thomas M. Reid
  5. Queen of the Demonweb Pits, Paul Kidd
  6. Keep on the Borderlands, Ru Emerson which was crap;
  7. The Tomb of Horrors, Keith Francis Strohm which ended this series on a brown note.

As to quality, it's best to approach them as running commentaries on the modules, to which end - at their best - they detail how to paper over the flaws of 1970s-era content. Paul Kidd did well-enough with the genre that they let her do it again. Emerson and Strohm, not so much.
