The spearmen of the High Elves are the closest to a meat shield, with their shields buying time for a hasty retreat or a continued barrage into enemy ranks.
In spite of this, they are more disciplined and firmer than their Imperial counterparts, having been former archers whose decades of immortal training have prepared them for this prestigious honour. They are basically the citizen milita of Ulthuan whose experience and courage made them more elite than their younger and freshly-recruited peers.
In lore, they are capable of holding back mightier foes, but in Total War: Warhammer II, tbey are nothing more than dignified meatshields.
