This is about Lovecraft's Dreamlands setting. For the Emperor's Nightmare short story, see Dreamlands (Story).

This article is a stub. You can help 1d4chan by expanding it

The Dreamlands are a dimension that H.P. Lovecraft used as the setting for his Dream Cycle, a set of stories that are basically the closest Lovecraft ever got to writing conventional fantasy. The most well-known and longest of these stories is the Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath.

In summary, the Dreamlands are a parallel dimension similar to Earth, but much more overtly magical and fantastical. Humans can learn to project themselves into the Dreamlands as they sleep, and even to bodily move there, whilst certain magical entities, such as cats and ghouls, can freely travel between the worlds.

Notable Creatures[edit]

In Gaming[edit]

The Dreamlands have appeared as part of the Call of Cthulhu RPG, with absolutely every creature ever mentioned by Lovecraft getting stats and expanded lore.

Strange Aeons, the Yog-Sothothery-flavored Adventure Path for Pathfinder, features the party traveling to the Dreamlands.

S.Petersen's Cthulhu Mythos splatbook for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition makes considerable reference to the Dreamlands, and in fact introduces four player races native to that realm; the Dreamlands Cat, the Gnor, the Mythosian Ghoul, and the Zoog.
