Vaartesian troopers are fanatical as an unspoken impulse, and eager to prove themselves. Initially programmed with a love for Vaartes, many troopers-- outside of a planetary environment designed to reinforce such programming-- have begun to question why they love a planet that cares nothing for them. Some have realized they were 'born to die', and thus this results in a dour fatalism coupled with a love for the Imperium. Not only does the Imperium provide them with the necessities of life, but this allegiance-- unlike the loyalty to Vaartes-- is more-or-less freely chosen.

The 23rd Vaartes 'Fated' were a formation in the Imperial Army, and representative of many of the early regiments from the planet Vaartes.

Background[edit]

The 23rd Vaartes 'Fated' were born, alongside their other regiments, when the Imperial expedition fleets encountered their homeworld in M30. The people of Vaartes, ever-protective of their way of life, joined the Imperium rapidly. When the tithe of at least 3000 troops was demanded of them, however, the soft-living Vaartesians balked.

During the Age of Strife, the Vaartesians sought above all things to maintain the standard of living they were accustomed to. With technology in steep decline and cut off from the rest of humanity, however, it soon became apparent that labor and toil was necessary to make life possible-- the air was poor, water and food were acquired by technological means which were fast disappearing-- and sought the solution in technology. All citizens donated DNA to a central 'gene-bank' which then began creating masses of pliable laborers to do all the harsh work needed to sustain life on Vaartes.

When the Imperials demanded troops to aid the Crusade, the Vaartesians did what they had learned was the quick and easy solution to demand for warm bodies-- make them and ship them off.

Vaartesian troopers are fanatical as an unspoken impulse, and eager to prove themselves. Initially programmed with a love for Vaartes, many troopers-- outside of a planetary environment designed to reinforce such programming-- have begun to question why they love a planet that cares nothing for them. Some have realized they were 'born to die', and thus this results in a 'gallows humor' fatalism coupled with a love for the Imperium. Not only does the Imperium provide them with the necessities of life, but this allegiance-- unlike the loyalty to Vaartes-- is more-or-less freely chosen.

Doctrine[edit]

As Mechanized Infantry, the Vaartesians make good use of vehicles and troop transports as force multipliers. Their tanks and infantry carriers often serve as support for the bike assaults of the Scale Bearers Adeptus Astartes.

Homeworld[edit]

Vaartes is an urban world, its surface covered in a single massive cityscape. The 'natural-born' population lives lives of ease and leisure, while the vast majority of 'vat-born' toil to support this lifestyle.
