In fact many Animes are taken from Mangas, and instead of waiting for the series to finish they'll just animate whats out up till they run out of the actual source material but instead of stopping they'll like any sane person the Japanese start making shit up and make what is called filler arcs until they have enough of the Manga stocked up that they can get back to the real plot.
