Armageddon is home to the Steel Legion, one of the most recognized Imperial Guard Regiments in the galaxy. It is also the location of three of the largest land wars ever fought by the Imperium.
First War for Armageddon
The first war occurred following a massive invasion of Chaos followers, led by Angron. The battle finally ended when a force of 100 Grey Knights fought and banished Angron back to the Warp, leaving only 13 survivors. Afterward, the Inquisition ordered that the entire population of Armageddon be purged, put into labor camps until death, and repopulated, as they believed their exposure to Chaos would pose as a threat of corruption. This did not sit well with Space Wolf Chapter Master Logan Grimnar, who called the Inquisition out on their shit, but the Inquisition, being who they are, shrugged and got back on with working to death all the people they had just got done saving, thus leading to the hatred between the Inquisition and the Space Wolves.
Second War for Armageddon
The Second War for Armageddon happened when Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka invaded. This war also marked the creation of Commissar Yarrick, one of the greatest heroes of the Imperium. Finally ended when the Blood Angels Deep Striked their entire Chapter into the Greenskin horde.
Third War for Armageddon
The Third War for Armageddon happened decades later, when Thraka returned leading the largest (later retcon'd to second-largest) Ork WAAAAAGH! ever seen in the galaxy. Despite being an Imperium victory, the planet remains under constant attack from remnant Orks left over from the last war.
