*Born in Nice, France, to a pair of lower-middle class gardeners, the third child out of fiveParents immigrated from Italy separately before meeting and marrying.  The family didn't make a lot of money, but it was pretty loud and happy.
 
*Was pretty sheltered due to illnesses, enough that he started to be a strain on his parents.  He started to make an effort to get healthier because of this, though it became more in the form of tricks to make things easier on himFor the same reason, Simone also developed a knack for some sports as well.  The guy still wears out easily.
*Israeli, born and raised in Tel Aviv, parents are Jewish.  Atarah, the mother is from a very traditional family and basically doesn't talk about said family.  Hell, she prays in thanks that she left them.  Matthew, the father, is pretty modern and liberalShe has four younger siblings, ranging from 15 to 6.  The oldest two, 15 and 13 are boys.  The younger pair, age 9 and 6, are both girls, but they are rather tomboyish.  (Mary, the younger, may be just emulating Ariel, her big sister.)

*After meeting two other people online that had weird elemental events happen to them, Shamira created the 'Elemental Spiral' to help connect people like her.
*Reuben, her 15-year-old brother, has recently come into his own as well after falling off a balcony and landing safely.  Unlike Shamira, he is an Air Aspect.  He is a lot more interested in the implications of all of the crazy things happening, looking into the whys and hows instead of handling the now like Shamira.  Oddly, while it's GLARINGLY obvious that Shamira is strange, there's only faint clues to Reuben's nature.  The tips of his hair fade from black to gray as it grows out, which has forced him to cut his hair shorter than he likes.
*At this point, she has realized there's more out there and has been talking to her parents about what has happened and how to handle things.  No one in the family beyond her mother and father are aware that Shamira and Reuben are different.  With Shamira's obvious physical changes, she gets a bit of flack but at least Mom and Dad get it.  Sort of.
*Atarah is the brains of the family, and while she is often stuck in the mindset she grew up with, she is much quicker on the draw and can adapt much faster than most people.  She has a bit of a temper as well, and as she is the cook of the family, people have learned not to upset her when she is working.  She will throw things at them.  She lives in fear of her family finding her again and normally stays at home doing housework and readingIf she leaves the apartment, it's with one of the boys or with Shamira.  She helps her kids with their homework and is very well learnedHer view of her children's powers is that G-d gave them gifts in apology for those accidents.
*Matthew is a banker and takes his time with things, including his temper.  Slow to action, slow to stop, he's basically a glacier.  A big, easygoing glacier that is very forgiving.  There is one time he will move in a fury, and that is when his family is threatened.  With Atarah and his combined efforts, they got the family out of the country within days of Shamira's accident and back to his family in New York CityWhile he is normally very calm, he feels frazzled when it comes to his children, what with two of them being Exalted and his two youngest expressing issues about their bodies...  It's as if the only 'normal' one is his middle son... and when he realized that, Matthew decided not to think about it.  Surely G-d would jinx it if he ever said it out loud.

Shamira isn't pretty or graceful.  What stands out about her is that she is horrifically scarred from the fire that triggered her Exaltation. After her Exaltation, her hair has been growing out a rich, dark red, with black streaks coming through and her brown eyes have become a much lighter amber.  Perhaps over time, she'll heal her scars, but for now she conceals her body as much as possible in loose, baggy shirts and cargo pants, with a Star of David on a bracelet around her wrist.  She also consistently carries a bright red laptop with her, with a few tasteful stickers on it.
