The Gurl is a mythic creature most Dungeons & Dragons players will never get to meet. The Garl on the other hand was a prehistoric offshoot from some pre-Neanderthal past. Where they are found, they are on the ogre or hill giant template: ten feet tall, stupid, and overall Frazetta Man.
Garls first appeared in CM6: Where Chaos Reigns as rivals to humanity's ancestors, uplifted by the oards just far enough to be a credible threat. Since these monsters are on the lost-world template, Ritchie and Arneson couldn't resist adding some to the Valley of the Ancients south of Blackmoor. They did get into AC9: Creature Catalogue but then so did everything else BXCM-related.
Given how the niche is well-occupied by hill giants, ogres, and several others... yeah your players' avatars aren't likely to meet garls, either.
