A "Mary Sue" is a slang term for what essentially amounts to an abortion of a character.

*Hated only by characters the audiance is supposed to hate or see as impotent
*An extreme prodigy where it matters
*Deficient in ways unimportant or superficial
*Totally unique, may have an awesome piece of gear or very distinctive markings like a scar or tattoo with a special meaning so they stand out more than anyone in the room
*A loner/rogue agent who also has rank and is in charge
Prequel Anakin Skywalker is often cited as a universally accepted Mary Sue (although some still disagree).
 
Accusations of Mary Sue often result in a varying degree of [[Skub]].
The term originates from the main character of an early and well-known Star Trek fanfiction.
