Elder Things (called Primordial Ones in Deities & Demigods) are one of the alien races created by H.P. Lovecraft for his Cthulhu Mythos. Described as man-sized echinoderms with radial symmetry, which basically means they look like a sea cucumber with a horizontal starfish for a head, a writhing nest of octopus tentacles for "legs", and five octopus tentacles spaced equally around the circumference of the torso for arms, and retractile wings, they are most notable for being one of the very few alien races to be presented as an understandable, even sympathetic race. They colonized Earth in its most ancient primordial past and fought a bloody war against the Flying Polyps, before being destroyed by a revolution amongst their Shoggoth slaves. They may also have been the accidental creators of all Earthly life.
