Sentinels are a Spheres of Might class that can probably most easily be equated to a Paladin. As a class with full BAB and Practitioner progression and d12 hit die, these bastards will be impossible to remove, delayed damage pool be damned. On top of this, their saves are far from a joke as well, as they get good Fortitude and Will saves as well as the ability to use Wisdom on their Reflex saves. Their durability is even further boosted by their sources of temporary HP, from their reserve ability they can spend for temporary HP or (limited) actual healing to the Guardian sphere's innate delayed damage pool.

Their biggest dependence is upon the Guardian sphere's Challenge package, as they can add extra modifiers to the challenge on top of what you can already do with sphere talents. Due to how Spheres of Might works, this means it's just as easy to make an archery focused Sentinel who marks enemies for death from afar as it is to go with the typical knight in shining armor bashing enemies with sword and shield.

Archetypes exist for the Sentinel, of course, with some being more significant than others.

  • Adamant Guardian switches the challenge bonuses to relying on the Guardian sphere's Patrol package, though they're just as dead 'ard.
  • Darkness Defender trades away some dodging abilities for the Berserker sphere with slightly improved DR and tanking hits for allies.
  • Dimensional Defender is a Champion archetype with a bit of access to the Warp sphere for some teleporting trickery.
  • Garrison gives a stronghold as well as access to the Leadership sphere for lackeys. As they level up, the stronghold adds a few extra benefits to their lord.
  • Laughing Hyena uses Charisma instead of Wisdom for better use of the Gladiator sphere, taunting and boasting at the enemy.
  • Paragon makes those paladin comparisons more obvious with the bonus to challenging enemies of opposing alignments and the ability to heal nearby allies.
