Samantha Specter (Private)

  • Affiliations: S.H.I.E.L.D., New Avengers

Origin

Samantha Specter was an intern at the IT department of super-science firm Futurepharm. Quiet, shy, but pleasant enough. The thing about her is she -loves- superheroes. Avengers, solo heroes, hell, even the X-Men she's cool with, because everything about them is so awesome! She's clever; not brilliant, but does her job well, which mostly involves fixing computers. The important thing about her was that she's the personal IT rep for Project Extremis, a highly-classified military program to create super-soldiers. To her horror, she discovered one morning that the first prototype, Extremis: Dragon, has been stolen!

Sam saw her chance, and stupidly took it. In the confusion after the break-in, she managed to get to the vault and set herself up with the second prototype, Extremis Alpha. By the time anyone caught her, she was already comatose in a cocoon of scabs as her body began rewriting itself to function at the highest superhuman levels, with the bonus power of flight. She made it through, reborn as the superhero Snapdragon. A superhero fight between the Extremis Alpha and Extremis: Dragon (through their hosts, Samantha and a no-name far-right terrorist named Mallen), ensues, one which she won easily.

S.H.I.E.L.D. showed up, and about ten minutes of detective work finds that Sam's superiors sold the dose to Mallen and faked a robbery, then allowed Sam to steal hers as part of a big show to prove Extremis works and can be used for military applications. Agent Coulson wasn't having any of it, and arrested basically everyone at Futurepharm. Nicole, though. She stole company property, but it was to stop a potential disaster; that and the friendship she sparked with Coulson over their adoration of the superhuman community got her off the hook, on the condition that she cooperate with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s new project; The New Avengers Initiative.

Personality

Snapdragon is an odd duck. Whether in costume or out, she whips between fear of everything and rattling off complicated concepts and half-baked analogies at record speed. She's not afraid of showing how clever she is, but what she is afraid of is everything else. She's nervous, constantly, especially around She-Hulk, of whom she is a long-time fan. To most other superheroes, she shows nothing but respect and awe, and even some villains get this treatment. After they get punched in the face.

Sam's powers fascinate and terrify her at the same time. She's constantly afraid of what happens if, even for one second, she lost control, but at the same time using those powers is an exhilarating rush that can't be matched by anything else. It might be frightening, but she loves being a superhero, and with her place in the Avengers, she's excited at the chance to have actual, real friends.

Abilities and Resources

Due to her Extremis upgrades, Samantha Specter is one of the most powerful superhumans on the planet. While the Hulk might outclass her in strength, and Quicksilver could run circles around her, she is one of the few heroes that combines all of these spectacular talents into one package. Her strength, agility, durability, and senses are all enhanced beyond even peak human potential. She is also, when in a psychologically stable state, remarkably intelligent, with an IQ of 145, though not much practical application of her intellect. She presently lives on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier and can presumably equisition necessary materials for her missions with the New Avengers.
