Background
The man who would become the Tyrant of the Barrens began as the prince of one of the Hundred Kingdoms. Always having a military mind, and never truly grasping that the concept that those under his father's rule were anything of worth, he had plans for conquests in place well before he even took the throne. Once he had, he forced the peasants into his army, training them and sending them to war with those they had considered neighbors. To resist was considered even worse than to fight, however, because he had turned his kingdom's small store of magitech to the task of torture. In the end, though, he found that one man cannot hold off an army, and in teaching those he oppressed to fight, he gave them the tools to rebel.
As he felt Lethe about to swallow him, however, time seemed to still and a hand reached from the darkness, shining with a more impure light than he ever thought possible. A voice echoed across his being, an offer of a second chance: "I too once lost a kingdom. Take my hand, and take power." Bitter, frustrated, and above all rebelling against the thought that he could ever be destroyed, he took the Deathlord's offer, and became one of his greatest servants.
