Vodyanoi - male water spirit from Slavic folklore. He is described as a frog-headed old man who drowns everyone who cross his territory. The Deep Ones grandpa ? Not improbable. Anyway, he surely breath stinkts.

In Dungeons & Dragons, the vodyanoi is traditionally an aquatic analogue to the Umber Hulk, similar to the Aquatic Elf, Koalinth, Scrag and Merrow. Like umber hulks, vodyanoi are far smarter than they appear, but largely content to live a primitive, predatory lifestyle.
In Dragon Magazine #250, the article Heroes of the Sea notes that some vodyanoi turn against this lifestyle of being savage raiders and instead pursue a more peaceful existence. Though still motivated by their own interests, such vodyanoi can even become adventurers, using the following stats for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition:
- Ability Score Minimum/Maximum: Strength 14/20, Dexterity 3/12, Constitution 13/20, Intelligence 3/18, Wisdom 3/18, Charisma 3/12
- Ability Score Adjustments: +2 Strength, +2 Constitution, -2 Dexterity, -2 Charisma
- Racial Class & Level Limits: Fighter 12, Shaman 3
- Available Kits: Pit Fighter, Sellsword
- +8 HP at first level
- Natural Armor Class: 2
- Amphibious: Vodyanoi can breathe water and air, swim at Movement Rate 6, and suffer no penalties to movement or attack when underwater.
- Natural Weapons: 2 claw attacks (3d4) and 1 bite attack (1d10) per round.
- Summon Electric Eels: 1/day, chance of success equals 10%+(5%/level), summons 1d4 electric eels per level of the vodyanoi.
- Monstrous Physique: Vodyanoi cannot wear armor or use weapons.
- Water Dweller: Vodyanoi can only survive out of water for 1 hour. After that point, they lose 1 Constitution each hour and must pass a Constitution check or suffer 1d8 damage.
- Nonweapon Proficiencies: Alertness, Animal Noise, Blind-Fighting, Chanting, Close-Quarter Fighting, Danger Sense, Direction Sense, Eating, Endurance, Intimidation, Looting, Natural Fighting, Survival (Aquatic), Wild Fighting.
