The Xill is an obscure monster from Dungeons & Dragons that has been around since 1st edition. It has appeared in the 1st and 2nd edition Fiend Folio, the first 3rd edition Monster Manual, and 5th edition's Mordenkainen's Fiendish Folio, and in a few other miscellaneous books. They are evil red skinned bug/reptile/demon creatures with four arms and paralyzing venom and are native to the Ethereal Plane, from which they ambush and kidnap prey on the material plane. They reproduce by planting eggs in the bodies of kidnapped victims. In the first two Fiend Folios, is stated that they are completely obsessed with reproducing and have no other interests, but it is retconned in the "Planescape Monstrous Compendium Volume III" and "A Guide to the Ethereal Plane" that civilized Xill do exist who built cities in the ethereal plane and plant their eggs in slaves instead of kidnapping people and can be interacted with peacefully though they are still Lawful Evil. 3rd Edition states that groups of them are lead by clerics, and the book "Defenders of the Faith" reveals they worship a god called Sixin.

Mordenkainen's Fiendish Folio redesigns them to make them much more bug like and they no longer reproduce using the people they kidnap. Their new lore states that they are the creations of an evil wizard named Keraptis and the people that they kidnap are brainwashed into slaves for Keraptis.
