Background

Ever since he was young, Spikenar was fascinated in music. The way the melodies he played on his Sanxian could bring even the most jaded and corrupted Dynast to tears was what kept him playing, even against his father's wishes, who wanted Leonard to enlist in the Imperial Legions. At the age of sixteen, Spikenard decided that the relatively small port-town in the southern part of the Threshold was chaining him down - he longed to perform his art to those who could better understand it. With his parent's blessing, he gathered what small supplies he dared to take without remorse and set off.

Soon, his enthralling notes enabled Leonard to make a small living for himself, but the fact that he had self-thaught himself and his peasant blood barred him from entertaining the courts of the Dragon-Blooded. Until he met Cynis Helmin, that is. The young Dynast was appointed to look over house Cynis' business in the less wealthier parts of Gem - it was there that the young minstrel caught her ear. She decided to bring her to perform at her home, under a fake identity she made up to keep his true lineage hidden.

Long did Spikenard entertain the Dynasts visiting his lady. Many times did he see the decadence and corruption that had rooted itself in their ways of living. It was fate that guided him to his ladys bedchamber as a drunken, high-ranking member of the Deliberative from house Mnemon tried to force himself on her. Spikenard had no choice, for after all, the lady had provided nothing but love and care for him in a world that did not need him. He attacked the Dynast, and only the fact that he was drunk saved Spikenard from a horrible fate. As the Mnemon brute layed on the floor, passed out in a pool of his own vomit, Helmin realized that Spikenard could no longer live with her. Gifting him with her precious Sanxian and her Peacock Fans, she urged the young Minstrel to leave Gem and seek his fortunes elsewhere. Leonard had no choice.

As he closed the door behind him, Spikenard had a vision: the Gods themselves looked upon him, smiling down like parents do for a loved children. But slowly, they grew colder and more distant, and in time turned their backs on him. Spikenard had decided what he would do: he would perform a song so touching that even the Gods themselves could do nohing but listen and realize Creation's pain.

Appearance

A tall, slender man in his twenties with long, orange hair. He dresses in orange and white kimonos normally seen worn by court entertainers and geishas. The kimonos swirl in the air as he walks, as if some unnatural force moved them to enhance his every step to perfection and sublime beauty.
