Background

Apex was born and raised in The Realm. He was scouted for his talents in crafting large works, including siege weapons for various legions, and was eventually conscripted as a laborer on Dragon-Blooded Manses. After a particularly successful Wyld Hunt, a manse was seized by the Empire, and a large work force including Apex was sent south, to reforge the manse to better suit the aesthetics of the House. The day before the manse was finished, he got caught on the wrong end of a drunken Terrestrial's rage, and, clinging to life after a savage beating, Exalted moments before a fatal blow could be dealt. Blinding light exploded everywhere, staggering the drunken foe, and Apex sprang up. Grabbing his wrench, a favorite tool found in his youth, he swung it in a crackling arc of energy, smashing into the temple of the Dragon-Blood. The corpse went flying, collapsing the tent. In the ensuing chaos, Apex gathered his wits about him and ran off into the night. After days of wandering through the desert, He happened upon a giant tree. But this was no ordinary tree. It was a relic of years past, a carefully cultivated and crafted manse, long since abandoned. After enjoying a day's respite, eating the fruit of the tree, Apex attuned to it. With new found clarity, Apex made it to Varren, a nearby city. After being hired as a day laborer, Apex quickly rose up through the ranks, and eventually bought a house, and started his own workshop, employing a brace of hard-working and loyal individuals, selling tools, furniture, and devices for all manner of people to use. Through his job, and his new perspective, he saw the horrors that the Empire was capable of. He saw that Creation was broken, and he sought to fix it.

My Second Skin - The name given to Apex's orihalcum chain shirt, a gift from the first employer of his new life, a kindly, rich old man, with fond memories of adventures past. The orihalcum is a noticeably paler hue than most orihalcum. Usually found between the two layers of underclothes.

My Wrench - Though referred to and named casually, without emotion, Apex has a fierce attachment to this orihalcum wrench. The only object kept from his old life, Apex found it forgotten among a large pile of tools in a House Memnon forge, keeping it with him as a promise to himself that he would become great. On the night of his exaltation, he noticed it felt quite light and found it was a more than capable weapon. The wrench is about 4 feet long, and looks like an ordinary, if oversized, monkeywrench, save for a brilliant golden sheen that never dulls, and a hearthstone set into a socket in the handle. The wrench always seems to emanate heat, as if from a great forge.

Manses and Hearthstones

Utopia Tree: A massive tree standing defiantly in the middle of a blasted desert, this manse has given a great many lost wanderers refuge from the unbearable heat. The tree produces a great many fruit that all find delicious.

Hearthstone: Monkey Stone: The character reduces the difficulty of all Athletics rolls involving balance, jumping, or climbing by 2 (to a minimum of 1). It also doubles the character's climbing speed and jumping distance.
