Background

Setessa always felt frail and week compared to her husband Jeigan. Both had graduated from the House of Bells, but Setessa had her application bought. While Jeigan Exalted shortly after meeting Setessa, she did not. He became a child of Mela, and a cunning general. She became his mortal aide.

The two were married later, when Setessa was twenty and he was twenty-two. The wedding was delayed for two years. Partly to let Setessa finish her schooling, and partly to see if the Dragon's would grace her like so many others of her family.

Well, she Exalted four and a half years later. Just not in the way anyone expected or wanted. Considered to kind to assist her kinsmen in the Threshold, Setessa considered herself lucky that she would not have to go. Setessa always had mixed feelings about the Sesus legions. On one hand, they committed horrible atrocities with no regard for anyone but themselves. On the other hand, without them she would have never been conceived. Her mother, Lover of Violet Lillies, and her father, Sesus Chenow Nehano met on one of these military deployments.

Her husband, having a low enough rank for a mortal lieutenant, requested and received his wife. They spent the time they had together together as much as possible. Jeigan and Setessa were one of the rare Dynastic couples that honestly loved each other. Then, the civil war broke out. Jeigan and Setessa's unit was deployed in a near suicide mission. No one expected them to last an hour. They lasted barely half that. The enemy force was made of mostly mortals, but they were large enough to merit dragonblooded commanders. Jeigan was the only dragonblooded in his army.

As the only dragonblooded, he was a primary target. Both him and Setessa were in the back of the battle. Her squad was only 25 yards away, up a hill. Having won their small skirmish, they planned to retreat and support Jeigan's personally commanded unit. Then she saw it. Her jaw went slack, and her right hand almost dropped her sword. A fire aspect, anima blazing, stabbed him through the neck with his red jade daiklave.

Setessa stopped, watching the attacking forces charge up the hill while their leaders fought in single combat. The mortal clenched her sword in both hands and closed her mouth. She charged downhill, cutting wildly at anyone who got in her way. She must have sent at least fifteen men to their deaths as she charged down the hill.

She made an overhead strike towards the fire aspect and he responded with a widely swung parry. Setessa feinted, ducked low, and slashed upwards. The fire aspect's arm came off at the shoulder. She severed his other arm at the elbow on the downswing. By now, both her forearms were badly burnt, but they did not hurt. The fire she had felt burning inside her erupted in a shine of light as she plunged her sword into his stomach. Setessa removed the blade as he fell to the ground dying. The last thing he saw was the sunburst emblem on her forehead and the faint glow, labeling her as one of the Forsaken.

She looked at the remainder of the fire aspect's army. These were the people that killed Jeigan. She cared not for the fact that she had just killed his killer. They all needed to die. Setessa took her sword in both hands, and started attacking anyone who came close to her with their sword raised.

She fought deep into the night, nearly dying in the process. With only the moon to guide her, the fighting stopped. No one approached the blazing anathema, not dragonblooded or mortal of either side. Setessa headed back to the body of her deceased husband, and sat there until the sun's newly given anima was washed out by the Unconquered Sun's own glory.

Appearance

The first thing one would notice about Setessa, knowing her backstory, is her height. Despite being half-Eastern, she is only 5'8”. However, also due to her heritage, her skin is a rich tan, though not as tan as her mother.

Her hair is a brilliant red, like her eyes, and cropped close to her neck at the shoulders. Setessa values practicality over style, and her clothing reflects this. Unlike many of her kinsmen, the Sesus Chenow mons never appears on her clothes.
