/fit/ is 4chan's Health and Fitness focused board. While any subject matter related to health or fitness is considered on-topic, the vast majority of the board's discussion is about trying to become as muscular as possible.
Far from being the stereotypical popular extroverted jock to /tg/'s lonely introverted geek, /fit/ posters are largely the same as all other 4chan users: socially inept iconoclastic weirdos. Really, the fact that most of the games /tg/ enjoys are multiplayer makes them more likely to have good social skills than a typical /fit/izen, if that's possible to believe. /fit/ users are instead different from the rest of 4chan because of their drive to improve themselves physically as a way to change their situation.
Their motivations for doing this vary; some seek to compensate for their awkwardness by crafting a beautiful body, others hope that by emulating a role model some of that person's ideal nature will rub off on them. Yet others see their fitness as an act of rebellion; a statement against the world they live in, or as a tool to strike against a world that has wronged them.
If we're being honest though, most of them are only doing it so they can get laid.
Getting /fit/
/fit/ is a great resource for any 4chan user who is looking to get into better shape. Trying to lose weight or gain muscle is largely a lonely, solemn experience, and it can quickly become boring. /fit/ is the complete opposite: it's bursting to the brim with people to talk to, it's crass and silly, and every day some new crazy thing is happening there.
The number one reason most people quit an exercise program is because it isn't fun and because you feel like nobody will care if you stop. /fit/ is full of ways to make exercising more fun and people who won't hesitate to shittalk your fat, ugly body until you want to get /fit/ just to prove them wrong.
/fit/ always contains a sticky that is full of advice for newcomers. You'd have to be blind to miss it, it's the post with the dinosaur running back and forth on it. While a lot of information in the sticky is contested by many of /fit/'s posters, if you're an absolute beginner to dieting and working out and have no idea where to even start, taking the time to read the whole thing is well worth your effort.
Board Culture
Here are some basic terms and concepts than have become entrenched in /fit/ culture. If you don't already know all of this, you really need to lurk more before posting on the board.
In addition to terms unique to the board, /fit/ posters use a lot of fitness jargon. For example, a post that read "Just started SS+GOMAD" would have the meaning "I have just began the fitness program Starting Strength and, in addition, I am also drinking a gallon of milk every day." If you encounter terms you're unfamiliar with, the best thing to do is consult your search engine of choice.
Architect
n. v. To cause someone to gain weight, or a person who causes someone to gain weight, usually someone close to the architect, usually via clandestine methods. Architects' motivations can vary from those who want to help someone gain muscle as well as fat and achieve a higher level of physical fitness to fat fetishists.
Compare to fat fetishist slang feeder, a person who gains sexual enjoyment from feeding another person and causing them to gain weight.
/fit/ is currently one of if not the only place where architects are known to gather. Currently architects are such an obscure community that they can operate with close to impunity. Expect them to become a scandal once information of them spreads to the larger internet.
Coinslot
n. (Sensitive) You really, really don't want to know what this term means. If you're still unaware, consider yourself lucky.
DYEL
n. (Sensitive) An abbreviation of "Do you even lift?" A DYEL is a person who has such little success with their physical fitness journey that an outside observer would doubt they even started one. The most extreme insult unique to /fit/. To call someone a DYEL is to deny their status as someone who strives towards self improvement.
Gains
n. Muscle. More generally, any form of self-improvement. The goal of any /fit/izen.
Gains Goblin
n. A creature of legend that steals gains from innocent /fit/ posters in the night. Often used metaphorically, e.g. "Cardio is a gains goblin"
Manlet
n. (Sensitive) Any man of below average height. Alternatively, any man shorter than the poster. Perhaps the board's most common insult.
King of Manlets
n. A man of average height.
Womanlet
n. A very short woman. Also an insult, but less much commonly used than manlet, as many users see nothing wrong with short women.
Hamplanet
n. Alternatively obeast, butter golem, "person", > person, > p. Synonym of Fatfuck. Technically also (Sensitive), but not used as such on /fit/, as there all forms of insulting the obese are actively encouraged and perceived as a method of supporting them to lose weight.
Mire
n. Admiration, usually sexual attraction, usually from the opposite sex. Most /fit/ posters went all of their early lives without being considered attractive, and as such mires are highly valued to them. Posters will often make threads to share their recent and best mires, and receiving one's first mire is considered an important milestone on one's /fit/ journey.
v. "Mirin". Sometimes used more casually as a pleasantry e.g. "Mirin those arms" would mean "I think your arms look nice".
Mog
v. To be so superior to someone that the difference is starkly obvious. Something mogs something else where the circumstances of the situation has made a comparison between the two inescapable, and the comparison is unfavorable to the latter party. Most commonly used to refer to a difference in physique or physical ability, but the term can be used with any type of superiority. Mog threads where users talk about the times they have mogged others and been mogged by others, as well as posting various things they consider mogging (often facetiously) are a common /fit/ occurance.
WAGMI
"We're all gonna make it", alternatively, "We are gonna make it". To "make it" is to fulfill all one's goals and dreams, and has a deep individual meaning to every /fit/izen. Users often end many of their posts with the word wagmi as both a symbol and an act of camaraderie, jubilation, and hope. Moreso than any other term, the mark of a true /fit/izen.
E.g. "Saw myself in the mirror this morning and thought I looked good for the first time in years. wagmi"
Threads of /fit/
These threads can be found more often then not while browsing /fit/. Rather than an exhaustive list, this is merely a sample of some of the generals and events that are unique to the board.
/fps/, /fph/, /fat/
Three closely related generals.
/fps/
Fat People Stories. A thread where posters share greentext stories about fat people they've met. Stories range from comedies about fat people who were disgusting failures, inspirational dramas about fat people striving to improve, as well as "and that man was Albert Einstein"-style tall tales of times the poster totally showed up a fat person for realsies no seriously you guys you have to believe me.
Older than /fph/ and its predecessor, but both threads can still be found on the board, occasionally coexisting at the same time.
/fph/
"> p"
- – George Washington, First President of the United States of America
Fate People Hate. A general thread for everyone to talk about why they dislike fat people so much. Every single thread is guaranteed to have at least one tourist from another board or website talk about how horrible the existence of this thread is, not realizing that most of the posters in the thread are or were overweight themselves. An important aspect of the general's culture is that fat people who are trying to become thinner are applauded, as each time a fat person becomes skinny that means there's one less fat person in the world.
In a bizarre twist of fate, this thread is also one of the most popular among 4chan's fat fetishists, as it's a great place to find pictures of fat people and for many chubby chasers degrading the targets of their twisted affections is a major component of the fetish. Each thread is a constant warzone between those who despise and desire the obese.
/wph/
Weak People Hate. A more recent variation of /fph/. In theory /wph/ is a a thread to deride those who refuse to cultivate personal strength. In practice it often devolves into a thread used to insult people with the opposite political beliefs of the posters, and becomes a warzone between the extreme political left and right. In short, it's /pol/'s embassy on /fit/.
/fat/
A community of currently and formerly fat people dedicated to weight loss advice, motivation, and memes. /fat/ is genuinely very supportive and productive, and many of its posters have found success on their weight loss journeys and graduated to healthy BMIs. One of the most positive and helpful places not only on 4chan, but on the internet as a whole.
/fraud/
A general for posters who abuse steroids and other performance enhancing drugs. While drug abuse is a controversial topic even in a place as contrarian as 4chan, /fit/ is one of the few places where abusers can discuss their habits with like-minded people without fear of censorship, and as such they've become an entrenched community in the board.
New Years
An annual holiday in /fit/ respected during the first two weeks of January while people haven't given up on their New Years Resolutions yet and are making gym life hell for /fit/izens.
To mark the occasion, drawfag SIR posts a new comic about the adventures of a /fit/izen who is struggling to survive the New Year (sometimes in a very literal sense). The arrival of the new New Years comic is a celebrated tradition on /fit/, and the thread will will usually be stickied.
