Post-apocalyptic roadmap/Slovenia
Part of The The Post-Apocalyptic Roadmap project.
Slovenia
When the war started Slovenia wasn't particularly threatened due to the fact that nobody knows where it is. It has suffered collateral damage though. A nuke that exploded in Venice rendered the entire north Adriatic toxic and a Chembomb headed to Vienna that crashed in Panonia rendered south Hungary (and north-east Slovenia) uninhabitable.
Directly after the apocalypse the government regained some control over its territory, but the whole country was shaky. Soon riots in Celje and Kranj demanding more liberty overthrew the local military governors. 5 months and 12 days after the apocalypse the People's Republics of Kranjska (Capital: Kranj) and Celje (Capital: Celje) were born. Right before that a gigantic nuclear cloud cut the most south parts of Slovenia from the rest of it. Soon after that many declarations of independence occurred and now the county is a patchwork of mini states.
Factions
The Free City of Ljubljana
Basically after the country fell apart, the government took a new name and a fancy new flag and nominated Ljubljana a free city. It's still the most populated place in Slovenia due to old pre-steam trade routes being restored (most of the buses/trains/cars were either destroyed, left in decay, lost or used as "bars"). Ljubljanese people are generally very open minded and ready to help (if you have money of course). Situated on a cross of major trade routes they are always willing to trade (at unfair prices). Ljubljana's Army is composed of the Enote Teritorialne Obrambe (ETO Units of Territorial Defense) and the Ljubljanske Udarne Enote (LUE Ljubljanese Shock Units). the ETO troops are composed of drafted citizens and are the main defense of the city, while the LUE are the rest of the pre-war Slovenian Army that remained loyal to the government. Most of Ljubljana's arsenal comes from autonomous Austrian factories in the north. There are usually at least 100 guys to escort the weapons caravans.
People's Republic of Kranjaska
Stalinist. A wannabe URSSR. They have the biggest industry. The only place where they manufacture weapons and commissars en masse. WIP
Diocese of Maribor After the apocalypse the people of Maribor could only pray that the fallout doesn't reach their city. And that's what they did: Believing that God saved them they seceded from the central government, thinking it was too corrupt. Today they wage a miniature war with the people's Republic of Celje. Also they seek to conquer the fallout zones of Panonia but for now only mutated rats and lichens seem to be able to live there. WIP
The Confederation of Goriška
A Confederation of mountain settlements trying to survive the winter, communists, Italians and mutant wildlife. WIP
People's Republic of Celje
Communists. Wage a war with Maribor. WIP
Free and independent Republic of Slovenia
The part of Slovenia that got cut off by fallout mist. Still think that Slovenia is united country. WIP
Principality of the Kamniks
The state of Slovenian mafia. They supervise the mountain passes with Austria and thus most of the ore, firearms and technology trade. Divided into several families. The most powerful are the Jemković (mostly composed of immigrants), the Carlians (They believe they should unite all of the families) and the Denkoviš (Gun crazy merchants). WIP
Syndicate of Northern Koroška
Socialists, produce weapons for trade, skilled crafters. WIP
Unclaimed/Uncontrolled Land
While most of the Slovenian mini-states claim that they effectively control their territory, most of it is a lawless hellhole with petty warlords, new world orders adepts and even some guys claiming to be the new messiahs. The only place (outside the cities) that is inhabited by relatively sane people are the small alpine villages of Goriška, where people must stick together to survive. Also the city of Moravče (officially under Celje's control) is controlled by some guys believing that they are the Adeptus Mechanicus. WIP
