In Team Yankee[edit | edit source]

The 2S9 Nona is in many ways an Airborne capable 2S1 Carnation. It brings an AT4 Fp 3+ bombardment with its 2A51 120mm mortar. It has a useful, hard hitting direct fire capability, and it's available within the VDV BMD formations as well as in divisional support.

The main difference is that the 2S9 Nona benefits from the superior skill of VDV, letting it range in better than its regular army counterparts and giving it better flexibility.

In Real Life[edit | edit source]

A 2S9 Nona on its way to being another burned out husk. Note the missing roadwheel.

What happens when you take a BTR-D and attach a turret mortar to the vehicle. The big thing about the Nona is that it's a para-droppable assault gun, allowing it to work as both an artillery piece and direct fire anti-tank vehicle. In a drop, the Nona would be about the closes the VDV have to an actual tank. Unlike its parent vehicle, the Nona has been more successful on the export market. This is because unlike the BTR-D (which is rather niche in its battlefield role), the Nona is more generalized. Not every nation uses armored paratroopers, but many require light artillery.
