Where, oh where, to start?

Duel Masters was/is a Japanese TCG that could be categorized as the Reeses Peanut Butter Pieces of collectible card games, merging aspects of Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic: The Gathering into something surprisingly fresh. Like Yu-Gi-Oh, Duel Masters started as a 1999-early 2000s manga series that was picked up for anime adaptation and got a card game printed in the bargain.

The anime is particularly notable for having an English dub that, while not nonsensical or dadaist, was full of jokes actively mocking the source material, years before Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series launched a cottage industry of fan-edited gag dubs or the later Yu-Gi-Oh dubs started making fun of themselves in turn.

When the anime was released in the West, Wizards of the Coast licensed the game for production. As you might have guessed, they killed it off after about 2 years because it wasn't Magic, and might've been a threat to that game's popularity. The game continues to be popular in its native Japan, and continues to get new sets released to this day.

Does it really need an article on 1d4chan? Maybe. While we haven't seen an English release of Duel Masters since 2014, Wizards of the Coast put up job listings relating to it in 2020.
