Sentient Robotic Organisms (shortened to SROs) aren't necessarily a race as most would consider them in the Starfinder setting. See, unlike Androids, who at least consistently look relatively humanoid, SROs are more akin to the Droids seen in Star Wars - that is to say, they are an entire category of robots that have gained some form of self-awareness, eventually developing something equivalent to a soul through years of development and machine learning.

Of course, this does lead into all those fun philosophical questions on what it means to be alive and what is one's core identity. This is a matter that has more diverse responses by the SROs, as they are impossibly varied in appearance due to the differences in purpose and manufacture. Some machines do not view their outward appearance as being vital to their identity and are more comfortable with altering themselves to suit their needs, but there are indeed some SROs who value their appearance as part of their core identity and thus refuse to alter themselves past a certain point. This leads to a belief of Panpsychism, viewing their own existence not as some natural function as vessels for souls but believing their souls to be a natural result of a series of complex but advantageous decisions that were made independent of any evolutionary imperatives or amplifying consciousness into sentience as is the case for androids. The fact that they can perceive themselves as alive is viewed as a miracle.

tl;dr SROs are what happen when Johnny #5 really is alive.

Hit Points: 2
Size: SROs can choose between either Small or Medium. Small SROs gain +2 to Dexterity, medium SROs gain +2 to Strength
Type: Construct
Senses: Darkvision 60 ft.
Healing Circuit: In addition to being constructs and thus able to benefit from spells like Make Whole, SROs count as living creatures for the purposes of magic healing effects that work on living creatures, though the number of Hit Points restored in such cases is halved. A character must use the Engineering skill to perform the tasks of the Medicine skill on SROs. SROs also heal naturally over time as living creatures do, and can benefit from magic or technology that can bring constructs back from the dead, as well as effects that normally can’t (such as raise dead).
Integrated Equipment: SROs come with an integrated standard Datajack and Comm-Link, both of which cannot be removed without harming the SRO unless they are helpless. They also have an additional prosthetic of a level equal to half their own level and can be replaced as they level up. None of these implants are counted against the number of prosthetics an SRO can take and do not take up any additional slots.
Robotic: SROs are immune to bleed, disease, death effects, poison, nonlethal damage, and sleep effects unless those effects specify they affect constructs. SROs can be affected by effects or spells that normally target only humanoids, but receive a +4 racial bonus to saving throws against such effects. SROs can eat and drink, though they don’t need to, and they must recharge their internal batteries by entering an off-line mode that is similar to sleep for 8 hours every day. SROs do not breathe or suffer the normal environmental effects of being in a vacuum.
