Background[edit]

Thorns once glowed with vitality. It flourished under the hand of the Scarlet Empire, a beacon of culture unparalleled in all Creation.

Yet as it must be, every light must cast a shadow, and the Thorns that was was no different.

Elusive Arrow was, once upon a time, Kayell Arcaldri. A lesser servant to a lesser Dynast in the city, she made her real living as his personal spy and assassin against her will - threatening her and her family repeatedly during his rages, before suddenly calming just long enough to give her a command.

It was on one of these unpleasant missions that she fell from grace, and violently.

Having collected the necessary information from the opulent ball of one Cynis Vadanel, she had begun her egress through the quiet night.. only to run smack into a pair of mind-blowingly drunken Dynasts who had slipped out to continue their affair with alcohol. Neither side was pleased with the discovery.. but one side had the advantage of numbers and power.

After they were satisfied she was completely battered and broken, they went through no great pains to hide the body - simply dropping her behind a row of hedges, streaks and pools of blood and worse leading to her position. And there, as her sight faded, as her heart failed, as she pleaded desperately, silently for it to end -

- it didn't.

A voice in the back of her head chuckled softly.

"Ah, so you've run into my opposition. How.. unfortunate. I presume that, were you able, you'd delight in revenge.. something I can grant, at cost."

The mangled, dismembered corpses of the Dynasts were found the following daybreak, two broken and bloodied arrows plunged through their throats, the only visible signs of any murder weapons. Any investigation and paranoia was short-lived.. for soon after, the Thorns that was ceased to be.

Appearance[edit]

Tall and slender, Elusive Arrow's image has been enhanced in death - though still cold and austere, the blemishes of life have been stripped away. Her skin is a pale ivory shade, contrasted by short, pitch-black hair and similarly dark eyes. Her transformative armor can take nearly any form, though typically she bids it to take the shape of dark grey leather armor, adorned with a suspiciously high amount of silver-lined belts and straps - each with a soulsteel buckle.

  • Shadow Cloak Technique: Permanent. Gain artificial specialty Stealth (In Darkness +3). All bonus dice/successes from stunts or excellencies while under the purview of this specialty are doubled, though excellencies are still affected by caps.
  • Unseen Wisp Method: (C-Basic) (Avatar 1, Spectral) 4m, Simple, One hour. -2 external penalty to any attempt to be noticed/attacked. Ranged attackers cannot hit without Charms/stunts. +2 successes to contested Stealth rolls (overrides -2 external penalty). Considered to be outside fate while this Charm is active.

An elegant, twisted silver and soulsteel frame comprises the core of this powerbow, curved thorns of obsidian and a pair of sharpened soulsteel vanes on opposing sides of the grip granting it a more menacing profile. When drawn by an attuned user, sparks of ghostly light leap from the thorns down towards the vanes, collecting along the inner edges until a shot is fired. At the slightest hint of an essence-fueled shot, they leap the gap to the projectile, trailing behind it in streamers of shadow.

When used to fire essence projectiles with Relic Arrow Method, the wielder's strength score has no effect on the damage, instead using the wielder's permanent Essence score for damage calculations.

The bow's latent power, however, requires a bit more coaxing to come to the surface: the wielder may reflexively spend three motes to enhance an attack. Should it strike, the target suffers a penalty to his physical dice pools equal to the health levels dealt from the attack. Any subsequent uses of this ability do not stack, but greater results will overwrite lesser results. If the attack deals enough health levels to kill the target, his soul is dragged to the Labyrinth instead, his fate subject to the whims of the Neverborn - or whatever else may haunt their halls.

The first revision of this armor was reclaimed by Elusive Arrow when it was found amongst the spoils from an undead raiding party in the subterranean halls of the Mountain Folk. She immediately took a shining to it: with but a thought it allowed her to blend into the shadows and the courts of Thorns alike with ease. The original, however, lacked one thing that she immediately set out to remedy. Using her connections as a deathknight, she's since had it enhanced with soulsteel threading - though it lacks any effect upon its worthiness as armor, it allows for more proper deathly accoutrements.
