Francisco Cortez is a fan-made special character for the Estalia army created by the Warhammer Army Project in their fandex for this unexplored part of the Warhammer Fantasy Battles world.

Born a minor Bilbali nobleman's son, Fransico took up the calling of mercenary captain and became notorious for his boundless greed and cruelty. When the stories of the riches of Lustria spread through Estalia, Franciso Cortez took his forces and headed for the Estalian island colony of Plascia, eager to become the next Marco Columbo. He launched raid after raid on the Lizardmen, to the point that the governor tried to demote him out of fear he would anger the Slann to the point they would order Plascia wiped out. When this reached Cortez, he gambled everything on one last death-or-glory raid.

And, miraculously, it paid off! Although he had to burn his own boats and galleons to motivate his men to stay and fight to the last, they managed to successfully capture the ruined yet inhabited lizardmen temple city of Pahuax, looting it of all the wealth they could carry. Despite returning to Estalia as a fabulously wealthy man and being awarded the rank of "Marshal," Cortez hungers for yet more treasure and is now funding expeditions of his own to the "New World."

You can probably tell who this guy is based on, right?

On the tabletop, Francisco Cortez uses up a Hero slot and costs 135 points. He has the following stats: Movement 4, Weapon Skill 5, Ballistic Skill 5, Strength 4, Toughness 4, Wounds 2, Initiative 5, Attacks 3, and Leadership 8.

He has the following special rules:

  • Tactical Supremacy: Roll 3d6 when taking test to Rally, March, Reform, or Redirect Charge, and discard the highest.
  • Fusillade: Cortez can move and fire with his handguns. He also gains a bonus S4 Armor Piercing 1 attack in the first round of combat.
  • Conquistador Commander:' Taking Cortez lets you take Conquistadors as Core choices instead of Special Choices, and they can use his Ld score as if he were the general.

He wields a pistol, wears medium armor, and may optionally ride a warhorse for +12 points. He also carries two magic items; the magic weapon known as the Rapier of Quietude (Armor Piercing 3, Parry 6+) and the talisman known as the Amulet of Pahuax (Cortez has Regeneration 4+).
