Rules[edit]

  • On'Slaught: This single use item is available to your ogryn leaders or reavers for 5pts, and it gives the unit fearless and lets you re-roll all to hit and to wounds rolls of 1 until the beginning of the next turn, at which point the model takes a S5 AP2 hit. Given the models high toughness and 3 wounds, this can often be worth it, but make sure to weigh up the pros and cons first.

New Weapons[edit]

Melee[edit]

  • Brutally Blunt Object: A CCW with strikedown and concussive. Concussive is nice given the ogryns poor I2.
  • Concrete Drill: A CCW with rending. There is a general lack of high AP weapons in this list so rending is very welcome.
  • Las-cutter: A melee lascannon, which is nice, but you are only allowed to make a single attack with it, and since all of your units have 3-4 attacks this is a big downside.

Ranged[edit]

  • Blackpowder Mortar: S5 AP5 heavy 1 blast ordinance. Good for crowd control, and you will be able to hit most of the board with it, with a 36" range.
  • Ogryn Auxiallary Autocannon: Its an autocannon with 24" range. Use it on things you would normally use an autocannon on, heavy infantry and light vehicles.

Armoury[edit]

  • Shiny Medals and Badges: This upgrade can be taken by your leader or bone 'ead. It counts as a banner.
  • Brawn for Brains: Re-roll pinning and fear tests. Fine for only 10pts.
  • The More the Merrier: Gives Rampage. Fantastic upgrade, not sure about the name though.
  • Defective Burst Limiter: When you use suppressing fire, you fire an extra shot and primary and secondary targets test for pinning.
  • Boom Package: A single use grenade, with a S4 AP5 large blast. For only 5pts this is excellent for crowd control.

Bullgryns Only[edit]

  • Like a Freight Train: Hammer of Wrath is resolved at +2 strength. Since bullgryns have S5 anyway, this won't make a difference against infantry below T4, but it will come in handy against anything above that (Space marines, orks, etc.) and it will give you a chance to hurt vehicles on the charge.
  • Tough as Nails: Immunity to concussive and strikedown.
  • Shield of the Bodyguard: Lets any friendly model within 6" use look out sir targeting this model. It would be great in an astra militarum kill team with fragile models to protect, but here all of your models big enough and ugly enough to take care of themselves. The only model that could significantly benefit from this is the commissar, and since he is a character he gets look out sir anyway. Overall, pretty mediocre.

Cheiftains only[edit]

These items can be taken by ogryn or bullgryn chieftains.

  • Bellowing Boss: Inspiring presence radius increased to 12".
  • T-Bone Leadership increased by one. Good synergy with the bellowing boss upgrade above.

Ogryn Chieftain only[edit]

  • Things That Go BUMP! in The Night: Stealth against any attack from 12"+ away. Ogryns are best in close combat, but only if they get there without being shot to pieces first. This upgrade helps with that, and for only 5pts.
  • Mean Killing Machine: Gains the fear special rule. It's only 5pts, but a lot of units have ways of ignoring this, so only take it if you know you will get value out of it.

Bullgryn Chieftain only[edit]

  • Ablative Armour and Muscles: Gives 6+ FNP, which is increases by one every time the model takes a wound, for this turn and next. This can still only get as high as 4+, otherwise the model would be dead.

FOC[edit]

  • 1 Leader
  • 1-8 Core
  • 0-3 Special

Leader[edit]

  • Ogryn Chieftain: Gets an extra strength, attack and leadership over a basic ogryns, and he can replace his ripper gun with an item from the melee weapons list. If you take the packmaster upgrade, he allows you to take ogryn hounds as core, and gains fleet while withing 6" of an ogryn hound to keep up with them.
  • Bullgryn Chieftain: Same stats as the ogryn chieftain, but he gets the normal bullgryn equipment. With no squishy infantry to protect, the power maul and brute shield combo is a better loadout.
  • Commissar: Where your other leaders have limited weapon options, this one gets a lot more. Might be worth taking if you need AP2 from his plasma pistol or power fist, or solid anti-tank in the form of a melta bomb, but the summary execution rule hurts you a lot, as you won't have any expendable models to kill.

Core[edit]

  • Ogryn: Your basic ogryn, despite having a shooting weapon it is still best in melee.
  • Bullgryn: With the grenadier gauntlet and slabshield these guys are decent at horde control, since you have no access to flamers, but you need a couple in base contact to get any real value out of the slabshield. The power maul and brute shield upgrade makes them deadly in melee, but your team already lacks decent ranged capability.
  • Ogryn Reaver: A purely close combat ogryn, costs the same as a base ogryn but loses armour and gains scout and fear, as well as D6 attacks.

Special[edit]

  • Bone 'Ead: An ogryn with an extra attack and leadership, which lets friendly models withing 6" use his leadership, for an extra 10pts. Kind of a secondary leader, not bad if you have a special choice left. For 5pts he can be upgraded to a bullgryn bone 'ead with the normal weapons they get.
  • Ogryn Gun Lugger: He trades his ripper gun for a blackpowder mortar, a S5 AP5 ordnance blast weapon, or he can take an ogryn auxiliary autocannon, which is just an autocannon with its range halved. Probably a better choice if you are going use it to hit transports. Although for this purpose they are overshadowed by the next special choice. Which brings me to....
  • Ogryn Breacher: Deep strikers with a pair of AP5 armourbane CCW's. Since not to many vehicles are seen in kill team, their usefulness is limited, but that's not to say they are bad at what they do.
  • Ogryn Hound: Non learning hounds with a decent stat line, that can re-roll when checking for sweeping advance. Unfortunately for some reason they are infantry, not beasts, so they move at the same speed as the rest of your team most of the time, but they do have fleet, which is helpful.
