You are reading the 1d4chan article for C.S. Goto, and this pleases him.

Cassern Sebastian Goto is a black Irish leper and one of /tg/'s most <s>utterly hated</s> "beloved" Black Library authors, dare we say even more than he who must not be named. His books contain plenty of Eldar torture scenes, and also completely disregard most Warhammer 40,000 canon, along with an apparent contempt for the English-fucking-language. Most likely because they are actually recycled versions of his old movie scripts from fifteen years ago, with just some names changed.

* Multilasers, anyone? (To be fair, it COULD have been explained away as a supply problem on the Mantis Warriors' part, but for whatever reason he didn't bother to do so.)

* One supply Mantis Warriors never did seem to run out of is ammunition. Never in Goto's tenure writing for GW has anyone ever seen the need to re-load. Ever.

* Adamantium is now Adamantite (or is it Ceramite that's become Adamantite? Fucking Goto).

*Land Raiders. They can transform into Razorbacks now. (They also change back in under a page and a half.)

* Apparently Tyranids bray like donkeys now. And apparently so do Space Marines and Necrons. (Hint: It is possible Goto is addicted to Hollywood films where large creatures take a deep breath and scream in a similar, braying tone towards the camera. So his imagination is not *that* far fetching, considering he is attempting to write for the camera.)

* Back flipping Terminators! Cause Goto apparently thought it was a good idea to have a couple metric tons worth of bulky as fuck armor being capable of doing moves that would defy even the logic bending rules of 40k. And now with the release of Dawn of War 3, it is now somewhat canon with the new move sets of Gabriel Angelos which in turn might indicate that this fucker might have something to do with Gabe's sudden <s>mysterious powers of jumping and doing somersaults</s> going shaolin batshit fucking crazy in said armor.

*You know that Dawn of War book he wrote? Apparently, during Winter Assault, Sturnn got to the titan first and met with Gabe and the Blood Ravens, who had apparently been tipped off by the Eldar that there was a Webway Gate under the Titan. Oh and the Ultramarines Sturnn escorted? They were the Alpha Legion in disguise all along. Fucking Stupid.

For some reason, Goto really seems to hate the Eldar. Their fluff is repeatedly violated in many unforgivable ways, almost as much as the Eldar themselves are when he's the one writing.

* It's fucking CANON that the Aspect Warriors don't own their armor (except Exarchs, but theirs doesn't come off) and return it to the Aspect Shrine when they grow too much sense to play dress-up kung-fu ninjas anymore. Goto had several Eldar keeping the helmets they wore as Aspect Warriors like some sort of fucking souvenir. You could argue that Autarch seem to do this since they can take the weapons of multiple aspects, but Autarch are special commanders who walk multiple aspect paths, more likely they just get a banshee sword from the arsenal before they leave, and they don't wear aspect helmets!

* The Eldar also worship Slaanesh, including the entire Ulthwe Seer Council and Eldrad himself. You know, despite the fact that every Eldar, even the crazy, hedonistic ones, loathe and revile the folly of their ancestors that so happened to result in their race being damned to a life of eternal pain and suffering the moment their souls enter the warp after death. Ohh, and said folly also reduced their empire to a shadow of its former glory as seen today.

* Or D-Cannons? The things teleport chunks out of the target (looks kind of like Looney Toons-style swiss cheese production, but messier). The retard had them fire bullets.

* Or Biel-Tan's Avatar? Apparently he hasn't had his Wailing Doom sword for the past 3,000 years. And is dead. A piece of said Wailing Doom was somehow forged into Gabriel Angelos' Godsplitter daemonhammer.

* Or Fire Dragons; Goto wrote that the meltaguns of Fire Dragons (expert tank-hunters) struggle to get through a hastily-constructed Imperial Guard barricade, even at point-blank range, despite the fact that even fucking Land Raiders suffer critical existence failure the moment Fire Dragons starts shooting.

* It gets worse; according to this idiot, instead of using Wave Serpents or Falcons, the Eldar steal tanks from Imperial forces and use them in battle. [[Derp|The Eldar do this because the tanks have better armour, in spite of the fact that the Imperial tanks are landbound, slower and have more primitive guns than their own vehicles. Goto seems to have ignored the fact that the Eldar purposely eschew heavy-armored tanks for lighter, faster, and more agile ones as Eldar strategy revolves a lot on quick skirmishes and hit-and-run attacks, instead of the Imperial Guard's equivalent of a steel wall full of guns.]]. And the additional armor is offset by the fact that the Eldar ride the tanks into battle by standing on the roof or hanging off the sides like suicidal idiots. Even the Warhammer Community team took the piss out that that one (And the entry below...).

* Additionally, you know how in mainstay fluff, that Eldar tanks are much more versatile and deadlier than Imperial tanks to the point that their dedicated Anti-Vehicle platform can render Baneblades on life support? Yeah you know those vehicles with energy shielding that can deflect multiple Lascannon fire? Apparently, this retard illustrated that an Eldar grav tank can also be brought down by feral world kids throwing stones into its engines, dragging the commander out when he pops the hatch, and sodomizing him with sticks. <u>WHAT. THE. FUCK!?</u> We are not making this shit up! We swear! As if the Eldar has been humiliated enough with GeeDub's proverbial writers cocks, now their tanks are made of literal tissue paper that can be destroyed by kindergartners and their commanders are so much of a whore that they can be literally raped by your little brother. Fucking hell Goto!

* Even language isn't safe. According to Goto, the Eldar can't fully grasp human languages or speak them properly (though the languages of the Eldar are much more complex than any human language, and Eldar are capable of having conversations with each other using nothing but body language; yet according to Goto they can't handle human languages!? Fuck off!)

* In the aforementioned Dawn of War book, if you were wondering where Taldeer (who is suddenly a novice Farseer from Biel-Tan as opposed to a veteran from Ulthwe) was during all this, she was busy being murdered by Ahriman and his Prodigal Sons (who also happened to be on Lorn V for no apparent reason). Goto puts her through nearly 20 pages worth of graphically detailed torture before finally putting her out of her misery (and fortunately rendering the novels non-canon, given that she shows up alive and well in Dark Crusade).
**Macha doesn't fare much better- after being given one of the Swords of Vaul from Gabe (who got it from the Harlequins after repelling the forces of Ahriman) she uses it to turn into some kind of green warp-fire thing to destroy a Necron ship and subsequently vanishes from the story without a word of explanation.

*Lelith Hesperax now lives in the Eye of Terror, and is also a worshipper of Slaanesh. This is in spite of the fact that any Dark Eldar who was so stupid as to get that close to Chaos' home turf would have his or her soul devoured in seconds (which is why they live in the webway), let alone take the utterly suicidal step of actively offering oneself up to She Who Thirsts. And she's also a psyker, even though psychic powers in Dark Eldar have long since atrophied due to their suppression since, you know, they run the very high risk of being Slaaneshi daemon chow the moment they commune with the Warp (and even if there were DE psykers, Vect has made it very clear that using said powers in Commorragh is punishable by death or Haemonculi, the former being death by Haemonculi).

While similar accusations might be fairly leveled at almost any Black Library author, instead of the usual once-per-book or once-per-chapter, or even just once, against Goto you can count one for every page on average (sometimes more).

He is also the only Black Library writer to ever be so much of a pussy to try excusing himself with "having an artistic license" (which in his definition apparently means he's being free to screw the canon left, right and inside out however it fucking pleases him). He is apparently also a cigar-smoking midget, and rides a motorcycle that pleasures him simultaneously — much like Doomrider — which pleases him.

From just a writer's viewpoint the books are awfully written, the plot and characters confusing at times, and it is clear the works were quickly knocked up on a bank holiday weekend by a writer in a half daze from an intense Slaanesh orgy of whips, chains and daemonette snuff (this indeed pleases him).

Fortunately, though GW demand that anything published through the Black Library be considered canon, they also state that canon doesn't necessarily mean true. The work (in universe) may be written as Imperial propaganda, for example. Or in this case, the real-world fan fiction of a severely mentally disabled child living in the slums of a hive city. C.S. Goto is not Ben Counter, though he may wish he was.

Still, it could get worse, just pray to the Emperor that it doesn't.

We have recently obtained information on his background confirming that at some point in his life he was butt-hurt by a man in a red robe.

Which would explain his near-on obsessive need to fit the words red robe into nearly every paragraph and his desire to rape the established background of 40k.

There is a transcript of an interview with C.S. Goto online. At one point Goto asks the interviewer if they said the word "multilasers", even though the transcript shows the interviewer didn't even use a similar-sounding word. This could imply that either Goto has a psychological problem, he really is that obsessed with multilasers or both.

He also has the balls to compare himself to C. S. Lewis.

The "Best" of C.S. Goto
"Grasping one talon in the formidable grip of his power fist, Neleus dragged the lictor creature out of the sand and held it momentarily, dangling from its own fore-talon. Then, with a swift movement, he crushed the talon in his fist and launched the hapless creature in the air with a swing of his immense arm, riddling it with hellfire shells as it flew. By the time it landed back in the sea of its own kind, the creature was little more than a shredded husk."
<br>-Warrior Brood. Terminator Armor does many things, but giving a Space Marine the strength to throw a 1-ton Tyranid a few hundred feet through the air is not one of them. On the otherhand, fuck knows how strong Space Marines are thanks to GW never formalizing it and it always shifts with the plot even in GW fluff.

"Balder's fellow veterans were in formation around him, discharging volleys of lasfire from their multilasers, providing support for Hoenir's squad."
<br>-Warrior Brood. The aforementioned Multilasers.

"Taldeer stood bolt upright with her hands pressed against the lintel and her feet braced against the floor. The sinewy muscles in her slender limbs were taut and bulging with exertion. Her neck was knotted with protruding veins and her mouth was stretched into a contorted, rigid and unnatural cave. But it was her eyes that commanded the scene: they had gone. In their place there were simply two gaping cavities, rimmed with a thick, bloody ichor. She was screaming.(...)After a sudden, gurgling pause in her screams, Taldeer yelled something incoherent in a tongue that Gabriel did not know. Her voice was shrill and wracked with pain, but there was a new quality to the sound that even Gabriel could recognize. She had been shot. As the psychic screaming commenced, slightly weaker than before, Gabriel ripped his chainsword into life and whirled it around his head, clearing a moment of clarity in the mists of Chaos for him to assess the situation. A gaping wound had appeared in the side of the alien's abdomen, as though she had been shot at close range by a bolter. Judging from the position of the wound, Gabriel reckoned that the shell had probably ricocheted off the bulkhead and then punched into her kidneys, if eldar had kidneys."
<br>-Dawn of War: Tempest, page 88. Unfortunately for her, this doesn't kill her.

"With an explosion of emerald light, the stones seemed to detonate, spraying themselves into shrapnel and jagged shards that ricocheted around the polished, wraithbone walls of her inner sanctum. A hail of razor-sharp projectiles, like the tiny shruikens (sic) used in eldar firearms, lashed into Macha's body, lacerating the psychic shields and armoured plates with microscopic ease. Before she could rise to her feet or even let out a cry, Macha slumped forwards onto the circular tablet, unconscious and bleeding from thousands of tiny incisions."
<br>-Dawn of War: Ascension. Macha's also described as having white hair, which is blatantly false too, especially now that Dawn of War III canonically depicts her just as fa/tg/uys have for years. Also, shuriken is singular and plural, like all Japanese words.

"With a blinding blast of red light, the Assault Marine's jump-pack went critical and its fuel cells detonated, firing him down towards the ground like a giant bolter shell. Even from where he was standing, Gabriel could see the Marine was working to release the grenades that were clipped around his belt, flinging them down into the formation of eldar below him even as he rocketed down towards them. The disciplined aliens seemed unphased (sic) for a fraction of a second, holding their firing vectors until they realised what was about to happen. Then, as the xenos creatures began to scatter away from the Wave Serpents, the string of grenades smacked into the ground and detonated all at once, blowing a huge crater into the desert and rocking the nearest Wave Serpent. In an instant, the Marine's jump-pack roared down towards the vehicle, spiralling on its axis now that it had been jettisoned by the Marine himself, until it punched heavily into the gunnery cockpit on top of the Wave Serpent, blowing it clean off the vehicle and engulfing the whole thing in a giant red fireball. The Marine himself ploughed down into the desert nearby."
-<br>Dawn of War: Ascension. Jump-packs do not work that way and they never will. Neither do grenades.

"Somewhere in the lashes of the Eye of Terror, Lelith Hesperax flicked open her eyes with a slow smile, the serrated perfection of her teeth glinting lightlessly...(upon killing an underling) This soul she would offer to the Satin Throne, its twisted and unrestrained hedonism would please the dark lord of pleasure and fulfill the continuing terms of their ancient compact."
-<br>Warrior Coven. The only compact Slaanesh would make with a Dark Eldar is "I eat your soul and you die (not necessarily in that order)." And that would definitely not involve implied lesbianism with a Daemon Prince.

"They all looked down at the tiny form of the alien creature, broken, bleeding, and shattered by the agonies of the warp and the hostility of the Ravenous Spirit." (...)
"Between them they were carrying a large, heavy throne, in which was slumped the broken and contorted figure of the eldar seer." (...)
"Gabriel hastened over to the broken form of Taldeer, who was lying in a frozen pool of her own blood. Her eye cavities trickled with tissue and her abdomen was a shredded mess of flesh and shrapnel."(...)
"His eyes were fixed on the inferno that was gathering in the downed Thunderhawk, enshrouding the dying eldar seer in a thick death-mask of smoke and toxins."
<br>-Dawn of War: Tempest, pages 89-100. WHAT THE FUCK, Goto, <s>what did Taldeer ever do to you?</s> she stole LIVII's well-muscled body away.

"The Harlequin mime had been strapped to its surface and was pinned by four Marines, each holding one of its limbs in place. The thin, rubbery armour over the alien’s chest had been sliced open and peeled back, exposing its porcelain skin. In turn, the skin had been cut, burnt and shredded until it was awash with bloody colours, almost as vibrant as the eldar’s armour itself. The alien’s mask had been removed, and I could clearly see its startling blue eyes bulge with each incision. Ahriman circled the table slowly, muttering quietly to himself in a tongue that I recognised but could not fully recall. He was lost in concentration, and seemed to be almost oblivious to the presence of the dying Harlequin on the table next to him. But as he muttered the secret words of his forgotten language, more cuts and gashes appeared in the flesh of the prisoner, each wider and deeper than the last until blood started to ooze out of the joints in the creature’s armour, pooling on the table and then on the floor below. But the Harlequin said nothing. It made no sound at all. Its eyes bulged and widened with each stroke of the invisible knife; it was clear that the alien was suffering terrible pain."
<br>-Dawn of War: Tempest. You know what, a better title for the book might be "Exhibit A". Clearly Goto dislikes mimes. And Eldar. So, he made his own custom Harlequin unit for the job of...pleasing him.

Tempestor Primes are the Militarum Tempestus' equivalent of a platoon or company commander from the Imperial Guard, and like the more mundane guard, the Tempestor Prime has the capability and technological resources to act on his own if he feels like it. Occasionally when he needs to command his own men, he can form a Tempestus Command Squad to act as a mobile form of tactical communications when the Militarum Tempestus wants to get something done and dead.

As the designated 'leaders', Tempestor Primes are armed and equipped with weapons and armor befitted for someone his role. Furthermore, Tempestor Primes are renowned for their exceptional skill and prowess in combat even in the likes of the already elite Stormtroopers. Of course this can also be seen as quite unsurprising given the ridiculously balls-breaking training from the Militarum Tempestus in the first place. A Tempestor Prime is always distinguished with his great coat which can rival the likes of Ursakar E. Creed, a Servo-skull on his shoulder and a knife clutched in his right hand always ready for a 'just in case'. The Tempestor Prime can also come equipped with either a command staff or a bolt pistol in his left hand. But usually his standard choice of armament is a hot-shot laspistol or the more elusive hellpistols. Tempestor Primes can also be distinguished for their noticeable and quite fancy red berets which automatically gives them the official seal of Awesome.

8th Edition
In 8th edition, Tempestor Primes are decent command units enabling fellow Stormtroopers to be ordered to act as a walking wall of Dakka. While he can come equipped with either a hot-shot laspistol, bolt pistol, plasma pistol and a chainsword and can prove quite capable in defending himself, it is best to use him further back in the front lines as his Tempestus Command Rod ability allows him to issue Voice of Command twice so you can turn your squishy umies into a force to be reckoned with. Trying to shout orders like your role playing for a WW1 officer is sometimes encouraged.

He, like the rest of the Militarym Tempestus has the ability to perform an aerial drop on almost anywhere on the map, so long as they remain 9" away from the enemy. As usual, it is best not to get him too close to a melee oriented opponent especially when 8th edition has buffed up CQC on tabletop. Try to use his abilities and the Militarum Tempestus' natural ability to royally fuck anything not in power armor as best as possible. In terms of stats, he has a movement of 6", WS 3+, BS 3+, S 3, T 3, W 4, A 3, Ld 8 and a 4+ Sv.

Although seriously, if you are not grouping your Tempestor Prime into a Tempestus Command Squad then what the fuck are you doing with your Stormtrooper army?
Militarum-Tempestus

Chimera

2600:1006:B100:A139:D98:2DA4:2EE7:D77F: /* The Rear Door Paradigm */

The Chimera is a monster from Greco-Roman mythology, described as a tripartite fire-breathing beast with the forequarters and head of a lion, the hindquarters and head of a goat, and a serpentine or draconic tail with a dragon's head. Exactly how that works out depends on the artist; perhaps the most iconic of real-world art depicts it as having a lion's head on its neck, a goat's head growing out of its back, and the dragon's head replacing the tip of its tail, but the most common modern depiction has the three heads sharing the same neckstump. What doesn't vary, strangely enough, is that even though the original Chimera was female, it always has a mane (beard) on the lion, even in period art depicting it as a unique creature. It ravaged the land with its fiery breath until Bellepheron killed it by using Pegasus to fly out of range of the fire whilst carrying a lance with a big block of lead on its tip; he threw this at its mouth and the flames melted the lead so it poured down Chimera's throat and killed it.

In Fantasy Gaming
Chimeras show up in a lot of fantasy games. Weirdly, they tend to have wings and be fliers (though admittedly they're usually very clumsy at it), despite the fact that the original Chimera was landlocked and this played a huge role in its defeat.

They are particularly prominent in Dungeons & Dragons (and thusly Pathfinder), where they are capable of speech, but usually not very bright. All the ego of a Red Dragon and none of the brains, essentially.

Chimeras also appear in Warhammer Fantasy, where they are creatures of Chaos and so usually show up as mounts for the Chaos Lords.

In Warhammer 40000
<i>Maybe you were looking for METHUL BAWKSES?</i>

The Chimera Armored Transport is the Imperial Guard's main troop carrier, capable of transporting troops on the battlefield and giving them fire support.

Unlike the Rhino Transport of the Space Marines, the Chimera is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle, an infantry transport designed to transport men to where they need to be, then provide support fire and cover behind its armor. Remarkably survivable from the front and equippable with a wide array of weaponry, it has at least as much Infantry-killing firepower as 2 guard heavy weapon teams, as well as the ability to act as a mobile firepoint for guardsmen with Special Weapons that can shoot out from the vehicle. Adding both survivability and flexibility to an army that otherwise tends to be sluggish, the Chimera is a ubiquitous presence that finds a home in many Imperial Guard Army Lists.

Overview
The Chimera is one of the most important vehicles in the Imperial Guard's arsenal: it is a fast moving, amphibious vehicle capable of traversing terrain that even a Leman Russ would find impossible to cross (swamps, marshes and even the occasional river). When the enemy neglects to defend these positions because of their perceived obstructiveness, they can expect a squadron or two of Chimeras in their flanks or rear.

In all seriousness, the Chimera is a fantastic asset. Have your CCS cower in it with pride, or shove them straight at that Carnifex over there

The Chimera has several uses: it can be an armored taxi of sorts where it rushes in between the front lines to insert and/or pick up units, and it can go to the rear to pick up new units and deliver them to the heart of the battle. If needed they can serve as moving barriers, providing troops cover while they engage the enemy. A third use is that they rush towards the enemy, shrugging off small arms fire as they deliver their payload into the most defended positions. The Steel Legions of Armageddon, one of the chief manufacturing planets for the Chimera, are fully mechanized and can move across the ash planes of their home world at frightening speeds.

The Chimera can mount a variety of weapons to support the squads they carry. The most common and famous weapon associated with the Chimera is the Multilaser, a larger, even more rapid firing version of the Hellgun, used to suppress enemy movement. This weapon can be replaced with either
Heavy Bolter or Heavy Flamer, both of which are twin-linked and can field either of those two in its hull. Forge World gives the Chimera even more blasty power with the ability to replace the main gun with an Autocannon, turning it into a different breed of threat altogether and according to the 40k wiki (not lexicanum, the other one), the Kronus schenanigana in Dark Crusade resulted in the discovery of how to mount a Predator turret with Predator autocannon on a Chimera. Each side of the tank features a row of three Lasgun turrets that embarked passengers may fire at enemy squads. The top of the passenger compartment can open, too, so the rest of the squad can join in the merry shooty fun. For added punch against vehicles, it can also mount a Hunter-Killer Missile.

However, probably due to the current Imperial Guard Codex, not so many Guard players use them, preferring the SIGAOD (Shooty Imperial Guard Army Of Doom), which is better supported by the Imperial Guard's other transport, the Taurox or Valkyrie. Mech Guard love the fucking things though, since for the points-cost they're one of the best investments a squad can make. 260 points will buy four squads a dedicated transport option that essentially removes the need to carry either Heavy Bolters or Autocannons.

The other major use the Chimera finds is as a command vehicle; officers embarked inside can still issue orders, measuring their order radius from the tank's hull; this serves the dual purpose of increasing your order distance (since the Chimera is obviously larger than the man shouting orders from the hatch) and also keeping your HQ alive, since Guard HQ's are notoriously squishy.

One common trick with Chimeras is to, after unloading their passengers, form them into hunting packs (Soviet Bronegruppa IN SPACE) and have them roam around the battlefield pissing off targets of opportunity. with two long-ranged, rapid-fire weapons and surprising durability, they absolutely excel at punishing relatively anti-tank-light forces like the Orks and Tyranids.

One other tactic is to set a long line of chimeras across the board, screened by Hellhounds and screening heavy support. This provides a multi-tiered AV12 line charging straight at the enemy. Combine this with Vendettas to destroy enemy Armour or Valkyries to flank. Alternatively, focus all of your chimeras into a wedge, driving them straight into the middle/weakest part of the enemy line. This will, provided the enemy hasn't gone all out in anti-vehicle, tank shock your opponent off the board, separating their army in two and allowing your Chimeras and heavy support to surround and mop up the rest of their army. Schwerpunkt their HQ to dust.

Back in the early days, the Chimera had a few variants like the Leman Russ Battle Tank (Details can be read below), despite this, these variants did not catch up for some reason. It would be nice if the Imperial Guard have a few more IFVs in their arsenal.

As aforementioned, the Chimerro assault vehicles mount a standard hunter-killer missile tube with an autoloader on the side of the standard multi-laser turret. This addition gives the Chimerro a powerful long-range weapon, while the multi-laser still allows it to support its disembarked infantry by mowing down enemy troops.

The Chimerro maintains the full transport capacity of the Chimera and thus can be used to replace Chimeras on a one-for-one basis in Imperial forces. Chimerros can also be organized into Chimero Assault Squadrons, which are then attached to various infantry detachments.

Because the Chimerax are easily recognizable due to their upgraded turrets that mount four light autocannons, it makes the Chimerax somewhat vulnerable to be spotted and singled out by enemy forces. Nevertheless, these guns allow the Chimerax to lay down a curtain of fire; highly effective at keeping infantry, light skimmers and flyers at bay. However, unlike the Hydra, the Chimerax does not carry the complex tracking and ranging sensors that would make it truly effective at anti-aircraft.
Chimedons have a strengthened turret, allowing it to mount a short-barrelled battle cannon, similar to the cannon carried by the Stormhammer. The shells fired by the Chimedon are armor-plated, and can damage enemy tanks and even Titans at medium range.
Genestealer Cults
Inquisition
The Inquisition can take chimeras for ten points cheaper, but they lose the mobile command vehicle rule. Loses some of the Imperial Guard vehicle options, but can purchase psybolt ammunition instead to make its heavy bolter(s) and storm bolter more powerful. They look normal from the outside, but open up to something that no one expects.

Rules of Note
There are actually written rules that say this particular Metal Box is also a boat. Its Amphibious rule allows it to move across water terrain. This would mean that it could ram an Ork Submersible, or tank shock a Saharduin squad. Sadly, since nobody uses water terrain, plays apocalypse, or has more than one Saharduin model, Amphibious is a totally useless rule.

Another rule of note is the one that lets you use orders whilst riding in a chimera. This one's actually pretty useful.

Weaknesses
The Chimera's front armor is durable, but its side and rear armor are much more flimsy. While it's generally tougher than a Rhino, it also tends to be a bigger target since the Chimera's weapons are often too big for armies that rely on light armor (Dark Eldar, Orks, etc) to ignore, whereas a Rhino tends to be less of an obvious target. It also has only a single small access point (its rear door), which is such a glaring issue that it gets its own separate subsection.

The Rear Door Paradigm
The Chimera's only access point is its (comparatively tiny) rear door. Embarking rules state that every unit about to board a transport has to be within 2 inches of an access point, which means it's very hard (if not impossible) to fit more than 6 or so models into a Chimera during an embarking phase, when the Chimera has room for 12. This is a problem that the METAL BOX and GIANT METAL BOX just don't have, either because they have multiple doors, or because their access point is so big it makes the issue moot.

This doesn't preclude larger units from starting the game already loaded in the Chimera, nor does it stop smaller units from using the damned thing like they pretty much always have, but it does mean that taking an Armored Fist Squad of 10 soldiers can quickly turn into a wonderful impersonation of when a fa/tg/uy tries to unpack and then repack a suitcase. You're generally not getting a larger unit back into the Chimera it disembarked from, so it's probably better for the Chimera to drive off and make new friends while the unit camps the objective. On the other hand, if you're willing to make the sacrifice, you can split your team members of the armored fist (or other) between two or more Chimera. This has its own obvious benefits and costs. But hey, you can always just rely on a Guardsman’s life expectancy to fix the issue for you.
The Chimaera was introduced as Thrawn's flagship in Heir to the Empire and would quickly become one of the most prominent ships in the EU. This is despite it being a mere Imperial II

Star Wars doesn't have Greek mythology, but it was assumed to refer to genetic Chimeras or at least some mad science hybrid beast since Star Wars has genetics advanced enough to produce human clones.
Monstergirls
Chimera monstergirls are a rare breed, mostly because designers struggle with how to incorporate the three heads and tripartite body into one design.

In the Monster Girl Encyclopedia, the "Chimaera" belongs to the small family of "Demon Beasts", and has the form of a lion-girl with goat's horns and legs, a serpent for a tail, a leonic paw for a right arm, a draconic paw for a left arm, and pauldrons reminiscent of a lion and a dragon's heads. Extremely powerful and destructive, it has a bad case of split personalities, with one persona for each of the four beasts that work as a team to support her in her goal of finding and keeping a lover.

The Testudo was an armoured personnel carrier (APC) that was used by the Imperial Army during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy. The Testudo was the Chimera's predecessor and apparently looked no different than today's APCs. The reason why the Testudo was phased out by the Chimera was because the Testudo was lightly armed and armored whereas the Chimera have the same function as the Testudo but with improved defenses and armoring. Another disadvantage of the Testudo was that it used solid rubber tires, which were less dependable than metal tracks later used by the Chimera which is stupid because replacing a flat tire takes less time and is so much easier than replacing a destroyed track. Its disadvantage against the Chimera is also bizarre since the Testudo is one of the few Imperial vehicles that actually has sloped armor (If taken that its design is a modern APC and if we ignore the fact a Chimera’s front armor is sloped) whereas the Chimera doesn't (unless you are looking from the front), <s>meaning that the Testudo has more chance of surviving a hit from a anti-tank weapon due to its sloped armor ricocheting the shot while the Chimera has to eat a direct hit</s> meaning that the Testudo armour would have been more effective because it would offer a longer path of armor to an incoming hit. <s>Another example of GeeDubs failing again</s>. Although this could make somewhat sense if at some point during the crusade the Mechanicum discovered some alloy or way of producing armor that would work better at taking hits horizontally. Like some reactive material hardening whobbly.. stuff. That would explain the "boxiness" of late imperial vehicles. After all sloped armor decrease internal space and this is quite a problem in APCs especially. The vehicle's main advantage over most other military vehicles of the time was its speed, as the absence of thick armor or heavy metal tracks allowed the vehicle to reach impressive speeds. Ok, have any of you even looked at a Chimera? It’s front is sloped. A Leman Russ also has sloped armor though with a lesser slope and also only in the front and turret (which is also true of modern APCs and IFVs and MBTs anyway). Besides, the Testuro had thinner armor, inferior firepower (the picture used on this page is just a modified Chimera merely with the tracks exchanged for tires) and unlike this pictured kitbash it did not have a way for the troops to fire out like mounted lasguns used on Chimera. On top of that, this vehicle was used in the Chimera’s IFV role (since the Chimera replaced it, they had to have had the same role and a Chimera is used as an IFV), so you can imagine why having tires and thin armor was bad.

<s>The weird part of the Testudo is that despite being lightly armored, it somehow weighed at a hefty 40 tons which is as heavy as a modern Main Battle Tank. Whether the Testudo was lightly armored in comparison to its weight or it was another example of developer oversight doing a typo is unknown.</s> An M1 Abrams MBT weighs half-again as much as a Testudo and is smaller than a Chimera which itself is slightly lighter than a Testudo. The Testudo is also one of the few wheeled vehicles of the Imperium, the other being the Tauros.

As the primary Chimera-equivalent of the Solar Auxilia, the Aurox Armoured Transport could be considered its spiritual successor.

Alternative viewpoints
The tracked vs wheeled vehicle debate is a very long and storied one in military design circles but as a rule of thumb, the heavier a military vehicle is, or the more it's expected to go on rough or soft terrain, the more it benefits from tracks. Tracks are also good when you are going to be directly engaged by the enemy since smallarms aren’t going to cripple you. Similarly, tracked and wheeled vehicles have very different turning mechanisms, with tracked vehicles generally being more capable of turning in place than their wheeled counterparts. The most common contention in the tracks versus wheels debate is tactical mobility is inferior to strategic speed. A Chimera could go up and down hills, through muddy craters, and even turn in place, but a person arguing in favor of wheels says the ability to move the vehicle from one area to the next faster is worth more. Ignoring the wheels getting much more easily stuck or shot out or damaged by the environment. But if there is a pleasant highway feel free to use it. It is guaranteed there will be no traps or enemy weapons covering it since soldiers are afraid of roads. As for sloped armour, modern munitions like the M829 would not ricochet off of armour it fails to penetrate; instead the projectile shatters due to the energy forces involved. So while sloped armour can defeat more primitive munitions with an efficiency that flatter armor cannot, now its primary advantage is increasing total armor thickness without using a larger (and thus more expensive) armour plate. Sloped armour does have a cost, however, namely in the form of interior space, which is why generally modern tanks no longer have sloped side or rear armour like some World War Two or early Cold War vehicles did. Similarly, the Testudo's forty-ton weight is comparable to modern vehicles in a similar role, particularly the T-15 Armada platform, though most of the heavier infantry fighting vehicles (IFV's) of today are tracked. Neither the Testudo nor the Chimera are particularly bad designs for an IFV; certainly there have been more hare-brained schematics proposed in real life and much weirder shit in the setting, but given the Imperium's frequent need to deploy on backwater planets or in poor terrain for wheeled vehicles one can see why the imperials prefer the Chimera. Additionally, the less powerful engines of the Imperium by the time of 40k means reproducing the Testudo would probably not be possible. Assuming an Admech would want to commit tech heresy, he would probably reason that stronger armor is easier to acquire than better propulsion (unless you work for the Gary Stus).

Weaponry
The Testudo was armed with an Autocannon mounted on a small turret, which was capable of turning a full 360 degrees, which allowed the vehicle to engage enemy units whether it was travelling towards them or fleeing. The Testudo's troop compartment was capable of carrying an entire infantry squad, up to twelve soldiers, yet lacked the Lasgun mounts featured on the Chimera. The troop compartment only had a single exit, a rear ramp wide enough to allow two soldiers to exit the vehicle side-by-side. The inside of the troop hold featured benches that ran the length of the hold, allowing the passengers to sit down. Near the front of the passenger hold were ammunition baskets that held the ammunition for the vehicle's turret-mounted Autocannon. It is unknown if the Testudo was able to be outfitted with other weapons or upgrades.

The Aurox is a transport vehicle used during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy by the Solar Auxilia and the <s>Imperial Guard</s> IMPERIAL ARMY. Both it and its tank variant (see below) are blatant nods to the bygone days of 40k's past when, prior to getting their own vehicle lines, the Imperial Army just used Rhinos and Predators, that probably makes the Dracosan their equivalent of a Land Raider...Actually, the Imperial Army had tons of Land Raiders. It was even better in Rogue Trader, though, as the Army and later Guard spammed Predators and used squadrons of Land Raider Proteus instead of Leman Russ tanks. In any case, the army changing from cheap Rhinos and Predators to clearly more complex and therefore probably more expensive equivalents is too dumb to stomach BUT they look cool so let us just enjoy.

Overview
Basically a Rhino stripped of all the advanced tech and fancy bits, the Aurox served the Imperial Army as the Chimera's more troop-transport orientated brother, boasting only a Heavy Stubber for weaponry, but with larger size and transport capacity than the Chimera. Essentially, the Aurox is meant to be an actual APC whereas the Chimera is more of an IFV.

The Aurox's job description as a light APC is probably a much needed grace for the Imperial Army in the 31st Millennium as the only APCs available comes in ECKS BAWKS HUEG METAL BAWKSES such as the Gorgon Armored Assault Transport and the CRASSUS ARMORED ASSAULT TRANSPORT. Sure there is the Hades Breaching Drill, but that is for a very specific niche. The all-rounder of the Aurox is essential for those who want to transport a large amount of redshirts safely without wasting a lot of points.

Carnodon
The Predator Battle Tank of the Imperial Army. The Carnodon was an extremely versatile tank that could mount a wide variety of weapons. You want it to be a dedicated tank destroyer? You can have two Lascannon sponsons and a twin-linked Lascannon turret for quadruple the fun. You want it to devastate MEQs? Just swap the Lascannons with Autocannons and Volkites and your opponent would roll for Anal circumference as his troops will be facing a barrage of bullets and martian death rays. The only downside is that it doesn't have a hull mounted weapon like the Leman Russ, or a battle cannon.

Tl;dr: It's the Malcador to the Aurox's Dracosan or Baby's First Malcador.

Overview
The Carnodon is a versatile medium battle tank which acted as the linchpin for many of the storied successes of the Imperial Army during the Great Crusade. As a premier mobile fire platform, it was regularly adapted to combat a wide variety of foes and respond to any number of battlefield conditions. During the early years of the Great Crusade, it rapidly became a byword for conquest amongst the Expeditionary fleets, a legacy which led to the production of the dedicated Imperial battle tanks of latter-days.

As the Great Crusade moved ever outwards and supply of the Aurox chassis peaked, it is thought that many Carnodon tanks entered a strategic reserve and were distributed to Crusade muster worlds behind the front lines; with over two hundred thousand examples thought to have been stored pending secondary mobilization in the warrens under the world of Tallarn.

So where did they go?
Given how prevalent the Aurox and Carnodon tanks were during the Great Crusade, their apparent complete absence in 40k is particularly noteworthy, as well as without explanation.

The most obvious answer to assume would be that the Adeptus Mechanicus just forgot or lost the STCs for these tanks at some point. However, the problem with that is that there are plenty of far rarer vehicles from the Crusade era that still see use in the 41st Millennium, STC or no STC. In the case of what's supposed to be the standard APC and MBT of the Imperial Army, tanks that are likely mass-produced on dozens of Forge Worlds (and every other planet of Civilized World or greater status), if lost STCs was the only problem with them, it stands to reason that there would still be plenty of surviving Aurox and Carnodon tanks from those days still in service.

Another possible answer is that the Aurox and Carnodon tanks are still being used, just not in the current scope of most stories. Remember the Imperial army was for all intents and purposes a garrison force. IE, they kept the local population from rising up in rebellion. Chances are that these vehicles are used by the PDF. By the time the Imperium sends forces to retake or fight for a planet, the stocks of Aurox and Carnodons have been depleted and replaced with Chimera's and Leman Russ tanks.

The other, more likely reason for the disappearance of the Aurox and Carnodon is that they were simply mothballed in favor of the more cost-effective Chimera and Leman Russ. This is confirmed by the Carnodon's 40k rules, with the opening of the Great Rift compelling Mars to recommission the Carnadon STC for mass production once again, although the Aurox was left in the mothball bin. Likely because the more modern Chimera serves the same role while having better armament, transport capacity, and built in vox casters, while the Carnodon can serve as a lighter tank than the standard Russ, which does support the theory that they've been mostly handed down to PDFs since their tanks are generally depicted as being less armed and armored than guard standard.

In the case of the Carnadon, it should be noted that it's not a Battle Tank, it's a Medium Tank (like how the Malcador is a Heavy Tank). Thus it was likely replaced due to the Leman Russ acting as a better version of both. The main problem with doing this is that the Leman Russ is not as heavily armored as a heavy tank, preventing it from filling that role, and slower and less numerous than a medium tank, making it poor in that role. This lead to the role it is used in: a mobile strongpoint.

In the case of what's supposed to be the standard APC and MBT of the Imperial Army, tanks that are likely mass-produced on dozens of Forge Worlds, if lost STCs was the only problem with them, it stands to reason that there would still be plenty of surviving Aurox and Carnodon tanks from those days still in service.
