Gland War Veterans (Called Glandies or Gland Warriors for short by some in /tg/) were a specialized, genetically modified force of Imperial Guard Veteran designed to battle the Tyranids. They are considered by the Mechanicus as a far more successful and stable substitute compared to the Afriel Strains.

Origin & Development
After the Forge World of Dantris III became heavily infested and polluted by Tyranid forces, under orders from radical Inquisitor-Lord Varius; the Techpriests of the planet modified several companies of the Lostock 23rd to fight in the hellish conditions.

They had many organs and drug-secreting glands implanted in their bodies so that they could survive unprotected in hazardous environments. New additions such as organs that would secrete stims, painkillers, and various medical drugs; more powerful natural air filters via a modified lung; enhanced bio-musculature structure for increased strength and reflexes. Their genetic tempering and augmentation has made them a distinct Abhuman, although whether they can breed and successfully pass on their genetic coding and new augmented organs is unknown. Their combat abilities and aggressiveness were also further increased in order to deal with the myriad of threats from the varied Tyranid forces.

Heck, the Gland War Veterans were so successful and super-anal retentive that even the Hive Mind thought they were crazy as fuck. Despite the heavy losses the veterans took, they were able to ensure the successful defence of Dantis III. Only three Gland Warriors are believed to have survived, which were taken by the Inquisition for study and "debriefing".

At least one of them ended up in an Inquisitor's retinue so apparently "debriefing" doesn't always mean "dissected" or "killed with fire." Not all that surprising since they exist with the sanction of an Inquisitor Lord and the Mechanicus knows how to make them so disection would be pointless. So, they got to experience one of the rare, honest-to-Emperor, Inquisition debriefings.

With that being said, the original pioneer for Glandies: Inquisitor-Lord Varius, has been placed under investigation by the Ordo Hereticus for exceeding his Inquisitorial mandate by intentionally sabotaging a Tyranid research facility, and then allowing the force sent to investigate to be suffer heavy losses and with the exception of the Red Scorpions, be entirely wiped out just to demonstrate how powerful/intelligent the Tyranids could be (don't worry, he performed Exterminatus afterwards to wipe them out). The data on Gland Warriors is held as evidence of his own damnation, however while they've drawn it up, his death warrant remains unsigned because the Glandies are so useful to the Imperium (in effect, until the Tyranids are wiped out they're not going to do a thing to hinder him). Still, the Inquisition probably found it couldn’t use the Gland Warriors as evidence against him when they tried because it was made by the Adeptus Mechanicus. He merely ordered enhanced Guardsmen, which is not heretical at all.

Gland War Veterans look almost indistinguishable from the average Human especially if he is in armour. Although they may be differentiated with increased muscle mass, heavier skeletal structure or a constantly heightened state of agitation or hyper-aggression.

However the augmentations that they receive can often have drawbacks: The early Lostok Gland Warriors could push their bodies significantly higher in feats of endurance than normal humans, but occasionally were at constant risk of metabolic breakdown, other Glandies risked temporarily shorting out their secretion glands if they were overused, but without any fatal flaws. Thankfully later developments in the D-99 regiment had no drawbacks at all.

Later refinements to the Gland Warriors capabilities attempted to increase their effectiveness against other xenos breeds such as Orks, Tau or Eldar; but never had the same successes as those Gland Warriors sanctioned by Inquisitor Varius against the Tyranids. These new Glandies would always have some kind of drawback. They could increase muscle mass and aggressiveness at a cost of over calcifying their bones and joints making it difficult for them to move, or increase their levels of aggression to make it nearly impossible for them to follow complex orders in battle. A shame the Imperium is too pants-on-head to realize that warriors capable of squishing a Tyranid invasion are perfectly good enough for fighting any other enemy. Heck, with some Commissariate sponsored discipline and tactics training and improved wargear, the aggression enhancements could be removed to make for more reliable, skillful soldiers to improve their effectiveness even further.

Difference between Gland Warriors and Space Marines
You may wonder what makes Glandies so different from Space Marines despite sharing what appears to be similar biological enhancements. The answer could be that Space Marines use artificial organs to help "augment" their body in new and interesting ways that are simply not possible without them. However, Space Marines are still considered Human due to very little genetic tempering and if you somehow removed those organs (without causing utter biological system failure to the patient) there would be little to differentiate between what was left and a regular human with a bad attitude.

On the other hand, Glandies are not only supplemented with new organs, but draw from a completely altered DNA strand that may completely alter the genetic make up of the original owner. However, in every incarnation of the rules, whether it be on the tabletop or in RPGs, Gland Warriors retain an ultimately "human" statline with only a few minor alterations; typically higher Weapon Skill and Initiative. This is because their biological upgrades are somewhat more subtle, with the actual "glands" of their Lostok Augmentations secreting drugs and hormones into their bloodstreams, increasing the strength and agility of their natural-born muscles and then filtering these chemicals before they become a drawback and cause the body to crash, while also making them resistant to many external chemicals and pathogens too.

With that being said, the procedures undertaken to become a Gland Warrior are not as time intensive as with an Astartes, who by necessity have to take their candidates at a very young age (usually <strike>between 8-12 years</strike> early-mid teens) and the process of implantation takes about a decade or more as the applicant passes through his Chapter's 10th company. By contrast; the surgeries that gland warriors get are considered: "somewhat short, it takes many months for the recipient to learn how to properly utilize their new biological additions". So that means that the Imperium can generate gland warrior super-soldiers much more quickly. If talented tithe recruits are scouted, their training to adjust to their implants could easily be covered during their mandatory Imperial Guard training months for maximum efficiency.

And that's not to say that Gland Warriors cannot be further augmented with any of a variety of commonplace military upgrades such as vat-grown muscle fibres, subdermal armour and minor cybernetic enhancements, because if you're going to the extent of introducing foreign DNA to the human genome, you might as well protect your investment.

Stable Sub-Species
While we may not have enough evidence of this in fluff, in order for the Glandies to become a sub-species of the mainstay Human, they must:
#have a different but stable DNA code
#have conditions that enable them to adapt to a particular scenario
#be able to procreate with their own kind and breed true.

For the Glandies, they were given special organs to better adapt in fighting Tyranids which is far more specialized than the average 'Jack-Of-All-Trades' gene-seed enhancements given to the Space Marines.

The high specialization and the complete overhaul to make these men more able to compete with a Tyranid organism would be enough to classify them as distinct from Humans. Furthermore, Gland Warriors have their DNA mixed with a Mechanicus improved DNA base which will be replicated through cell division. This further elevates the Glandies from conventional Humans and further differentiate themselves from the Astartes who do not directly undergo DNA tempering to their human genome, but have it swimming through their blood symbiotically.

The subject of being a stable "sub-species" is never really broached by GW, even though they usually lump Gland Warriors in to the "Abhuman" category along with other human strains like Ratlings and Ogryns. This might be because GW failed at high school levels of biology (especially when they continually insist that Astartes are genetically modified) Having different and stable DNA is one thing; being able to procreate and pass on those genetic traits is another. Since most of the organs are surgically implanted rather than being grown within the body, it is uncertain whether a mommy and a daddy glandie could have a baby glandie or if they would produce a whole new type of human being with the genetic markers of a gland warrior, but without any of the implants.

What is known is that small communities of Gland Warriors do exist both within and without the Imperium, though the level of tolerance towards these communities appears to be the same as the tolerance of any other mutants or abhumans populations, for example, the Red Night Brotherhood was destroyed by the Ordo Hereticus, while other warrior lodges seem to be the subject of speculation and little hard evidence.

In any case, "Official fluff" (i.e excluding FFG) puts their creation alongside the invasion of Hive Fleet Kraken, which means that they are only a few decades old at best, so the Imperium might not have had enough time to properly categorize them, or for a sufficiently large population to arise before it actually becomes a cause for concern.

On The Tabletop
Due to their success, Gland War Veterans are getting increasing attention to the Imperial Guard and has been nagging the Mechanicus like a housewife to give them some of these augmented Abhumans.

The original Chapter Approved rules for them "upgrade" a guard infantry squad for 15 points to give them the Fleet special rule, however this came with the drawback where if you ever rolled a 6 on the fleet (run) move, you lost a model in the squad. Suffice to say this was shit.

If you want to field them today and be entirely legal, use the D-99 Army List in the Imperial Armour 4: The Anphelion Project, who are a further refined version of Gland Warriors after being inducted into the service of the Inquisition and used against Tyranids. Giving them all +1 WS and I, as well as Preferred Enemy (Tyranids) and Stubborn. Though the army list could also be used to represent "experimental detachments" geno-enhanced to combat other xenos species at a risk of creating unstable gland warriors.

With that being said, the procedures undertaken to become a Gland Warrior are not as time intensive as with an Astartes, who by necessity have to take their candidates at a very young age (usually between 8-12 years) and the process of implantation takes about a decade or more as the applicant passes through his Chapter's 10th company. By contrast; the surgeries that gland warriors get are considered: "somewhat short, it takes many months for the recipient to learn how to properly utilize their new biological additions". So that means that the Imperium can generate gland warrior super-soldiers much more quickly.

Introduction
Tsara'noga AKA the Outsider was one of the C'tan Gods responsible for OMNOMNOMNOMING his/its fellow C'tan brethren along with the Nightbringer during the War in Heaven. Although in the Outsider's case, he was tricked by Cegorach instead of the Deceiver into believing that he will gain the power to rule over the material universe if he cannibalized his brethren. Fuck knows why a C’tan would even care about something like that. It is not known whether the Outsider is a dude or a chick or simply <s>gender flu-</s> BLAM! We just call it a dude for simplistic sake! However of the few fan artworks we have of the Outsider, it seems that almost all of them like to imagine him with dreadlocks like a psychotic robo-Bob Marley or ever as a her. However, for reasons that can only be speculated at, a fragment of each consumed deity's consciousness remained and plagued the mind of the Outsider, driving it insane (It could be all of the consumed C'tan nagging at the Outsider on how much of a dumbass he is for fucking them over and turning them into Pokemon).

Because of this, the Outsider grew super depressed and fled the known Galaxy before hiding inside a Dyson Sphere to sulk and cry for all eternity. Yeah it is safe to assume that he is the C'tan equivalent of Corvus Corax. It also had a hellish presence, and it caused madness in all who came close and many killed themselves rather than having to face the Outsider. Chaos wishes it could inspire this amount of madness. While the Outsider cannot match the Nightbringer for pure force, or the Deceiver for guile and cunning, it is rumored to be the most deadly and dangerous of the four remaining C'tan. So in any case if the Outsider returned from his exile, the Galaxy would promptly shit bricks.

There has been rumors going around in the Inquisition that the Outsider is somehow involve with the whole Tyranid affair and some even claim that it is the Tyranid's Hive Mind instead. Of course such notion is not only Heresy at the extreme but also quite stupid as the Outsider has been pretty explicit in not being too interested in Galactic affairs after the incident with him eating his own kin. Plus it would make no sense for a C'tan God to invest in biological engineering when it has been shown that for all the talk of being 'masters of evolution' the Tyranids has been shown to not be so infallible and even vulnerable (There are multiple Imperial reports of entire Tyranid Hive Fleets starving to death because it could not find suitable biomass in time). So why the Outsider would decide to focus on a race of admittedly strong but still inferior race when compared to the sheer rape machines that are Necrons and their subsidiary rape machines such as their tank one-shoting, armor melting, atom destroying, house cleaning, homework helping, tax doing, blow job giving guns is unknown (ed: because it's crazy?).

What I'd really like to control is not machines, but people.<br>
-Stephen Hawking

Introduction
Mag'ladroth, more commonly called the Void Dragon or more controversially as the Omnissiah is one of the main C'tan along with the Deceiver and the Nightbringer. The Void Dragon is more commonly associated with technology and science and thus is often the topic of various theories. The Void Dragon is a C'tan, and is hinted to be slumbering on Mars, since several sources mention The Dragon of Mars. Whether this is 100% true or just plain heresy is one of the intriguing theories as his connection with technology and the connection towards the machine worship being prevalent with the Adeptus Mechanicus is profound; and if factually true would fuck up the entire ideological construct of the IoM. Another theory is the meaning of the Omnissiah. Here it gets a bit complicated, well it may be true that the Emperor did have contact with the Void Dragon before bitch slapping him back on Mars, the notion on whether the Omnissiah is related to either the Void Dragon or Empy is up for speculation as certain clues may imply that what the Mechanicus worships is not the Void Dragon but another name for the Emperor and that the Void Dragon is constantly checked by the Emperor even when he is turned into a gold encrusted potato.

However what can be accepted is that if the Void Dragon fully awakens he will not only butt fuck the entire Imperium but also the Necrons for pulling such treachery during the War in Heaven and even Chaos once he gets his mojo running as his ability to control almost all forms of technology and machines means that he would give Chaos scrapcode a run for its money. that and its pretty much confirmed the pylons like the one on cadia that seal of the materium off from the warp was his doing. To put how terrifying this bastard is into perspective: the the Deceiver aka the C'Tan who was unafraid of talking to psychos like the Nightbringer and the Outsider and convincing them that cannibalism was a spiffy idea, ACTIVELY AVOIDED MAG'LADROTH.

On a more hilarious note, for some reason, it can talk to human children, like Gamera, and sometimes involuntarily gives them power to heal and manipulate machinery like him. Soooo...the Void Dragon might secretly be in fact be the guardian of children all along? Just picturing a cosmic being from beyond conventional science having a soft spot for kids would generate much lulz and pedophile jokes on /tg/. Or maybe, just maybe, humanity earned his favor with the Dark Age of Technology and the Machine Cult. Considering his powers. Which would be wonderfully hilarious. Even the Laughing God would be amazed at such a cosmic joke.

On the Tabletop
If you want to play him in an army, simply buy a Balrog or a Daemon Prince (make sure to give the latter wings), paint it suitably black, silver and green, and use it as a Transcendent C'tan. Have fun.

<div style="font-size:1.10em;font-weight:bold;font-style:italic;font-family:Castellar;margin-top:1em;margin-bottom:1em"><span style='color:silver;font-size:100%'> Wait a moment...SHIT THIS IS NOT A HUNDRED! - Vaul realizing he fucked up the mail order for Khaine</span></div>

Vaul, the Maker is the Eldar and High Elf god of smithing. He sucks at it, though, seeing as he failed to make a hundred swords in one year despite being a god.

40k Version
His name seems to be attached to other Eldar terms related to forging and production; for example, Mars (and possibly other Forge Worlds as well) is called "the Vaul-moon" by the Eldar. He's also a copy-pasted version of the real world Greek god Hephaestus/Roman god Vulcan with the serial numbers filed off.

Vaul was a pretty nice guy; not only did he forge the spirit stones that allowed Isha and Kurnous to speak with the Eldar after being forcibly separated from them by Asuryan (and later allowed the Eldar to protect their souls from Slaanesh), he spoke up for them when they were imprisoned and tortured by Khaine for doing so. When Khaine demanded one hundred mighty blades in exchange for the two gods' freedom, Vaul agreed right away. When Khaine got angry and started the War in Heaven because he only got ninety-nine blades by the time the deadline was up, Vaul forged the last one, made it better than the rest, and fought the Eldar God of War.

Unfortunately, like all nice things in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Vaul was just too good to stick around; he was ultimately defeated by Khaine, who crippled him and chained him to his anvil for his trouble. With Vaul's punishment in place, Asuryan came in and declared the matter settled.

Like the majority of the Eldar pantheon, Vaul met his end when he got eaten by Slaanesh during the Fall of the Eldar. That said, some of his creations survive to the 41st Millennium; the spirit stones are the most numerous of these, while the "Talismans of Vaul," otherwise known as the Blackstone Fortresses, are the most powerful.

Warhammer Fantasy
Elf Hephaestus. A total badass who challenged Khaine to single combat a long time ago on behalf of Lileath and Kurnous (not the War in Heaven of 40k though). During the fight he was crippled and his eyes were ripped out, and Khaine chose to spare him and thus make him his servant. Ever since then, his blessing go almost exclusively to weapons and armor of war. He doesn't challenge Khaine again or take his own life because the mortal High Elves need his badassry and gifts to continue surviving and to eventually wipe out the Dark Elves. When forging the Widowmaker for the first time, he asked Draugnir, the first dragon, to provide the heat to make it. But the sword was evil from day one, and it sucked his life away. When the sword was cast into the mortal world, it bound the destinies of dragons and mortal elves together until one race or the other is wiped out.

In the third book of The End Times, Khaine, it was revealed that Lord Daith of Torgovann was the reincarnation of Vaul, as people had long been suspecting. He participated in the battle of Whithelan which the Wood Elves joined their High Elves brethren under the command of Alarielle (then merged with Ariel) against Tyrion's force, who was then under the influence of Widowmaker. Daith was killed by an enemy whom he had thought earlier to be death, but not before revealed to Araloth his identity.

Mythology
The war between Vaul and Khaine is at least mildly reminiscent of the rivalry between Greek gods Hephaestus (god of smithing and technology, among other things, and a cripple) and Ares (god of war). The story goes that Hephaestus' wife Aphrodite (goddess of love -- and not always the nice kind of love, cf. Slaanesh) cheated on him with Ares, because Hephaestus had a bad leg and Ares was much better-looking, which led Hephaestus to put an unbreakable, invisible net in his bed that trapped the two the next time they met; he then showed them off to the other gods, still trapped in their "embrace." Aphrodite didn't seem to have a problem with being the center of attention, but Ares was suitably embarrassed. Obviously, the situation was reversed in the grim, dark future (Also unlike Khaine, Ares isn't the god of victory, Nike is).
The Phoenix King and Leader of the Gods!<br> - Asuryan the Lord Phoenix King</span></div>

Asuryan, the Phoenix King/the Creator is the leader of the Eldar pantheon in Warhammer 40k and the High Elf pantheon in Warhammer Fantasy. He is the older brother of Khaine and Vaul. He's basically Zeus if Zeus traded the lightning and bull theme for fire and phoenixes, but while Zeus is a badass who gets into fights and bangs mortals Asuryan basically just sits on his throne and does as little of anything as he can. He also doesn't have a wife yet somehow produced children, meaning he may be a hermaphrodite, gets it on with unfortunate mortals like Zeus, or is as afraid of vagina as the <strike>God-Emperor of Mankind</strike> HERESY!.

He appears as an Elf/Eldar seated on a Golden Throne, almost never moving because his mind is always working on his ultimate plan for the universe. At least that's what everyone assumes, in reality he's probably watching Blood Bowl. He's depicted as wearing a mask because nobody can see the true wonder of his face and survive. Or because he's fuck-ugly, who knows. In the The End Times: Khaine fluff book, when Asuryan dies, the Wood Elf Araloth sees under his helmet -- and sees his own face looking back. The reason behind this gets revealed (sorta) at the book's end.

40k Version
Part of his job was to settle disputes among the gods without upsetting anyone too much. Thus, when Khaine started butchering the Eldar because he heard from Asuryan's granddaughter (and the entire Eldar race's sister), Lileath, that they would kill him one day, and Isha and Kurnous raised a fuss because he was massacring their children, Asuryan decided that the realms of the gods and mortals would be separated -- that way, none of them could kill each other. This may sound like Khaine got of Scott free (which he did), but think about it from the Eldar Gods’ perspective. To them, the dead Eldar either reincarnated as space Organgutan or (maybe after dying as one) showed up with the gods in Eldar afterlife to live happily ever after. From that lersoective, the eldar being killed doesn’t seem like a big deal to cause a fuss about. Oh no, your children are dead which means now they must live in perfect paradise for all eternity. How terrible.

Isha and Kurnous weren't happy to be separated from their children, so with Vaul's help, they found a way to communicate with the Eldar, but when Khaine learned about this, he went whining to Asuryan about it.

Asuryan decided, in his infinite wisdom (and even more infinite laziness), that maintaining the separation between the gods and mortals meant keeping them totally separated, and that handing Isha and Kurnous over to Khaine was a reasonable punishment (Khaine certainly thought so -- though he could not kill his fellow gods, he could certainly torture them). Vaul managed to bargain with Khaine for their freedom: one hundred mighty blades delivered within a year. Unfortunately, he only had ninety-nine blades ready when the year was up, so he slipped in a mortal's blade for the last one. Vaul, Kurnous, and Isha had to run for it before Khaine figured out he had been tricked.

This lead to Khaine throwing a massive bitch fit and starting the War in Heaven. While the entire Eldar pantheon picked sides, Asuryan's contract stated that he wasn't allowed to pick a side and had to sit stoically and watch his family try to kill one another while trying to give a few fucks as possible. In the end, Vaul finished his last and bestest sword and took it up against Khaine. Despite having the materiel advantage, Vaul was still a pussy while Khaine was the guy who brags about eating Necrons for pre-workout. Khaine won easily, crippled Vaul and chained him to his anvil. Asuryan swooped in and declared that the entire disagreement had been settled.

Then fuck all happened for a long time, and the Eldar got bored and threw increasingly psychotic orgies. In the end, Asuryan was eaten along with most of the other Eldar gods when Slaanesh was born from the Fall of the Eldar. Despite this, his legacy lives on with the Eldar, particularly in name as part of the title for the Phoenix Lords: the Asurya. Then, The Gathering Storm expanded on this a little bit, stating that his last act was to give his power to the Warlocks and Farseers. Apparently the Eldar weren't as psychic as before.

Warhammer Fantasy
The High Elves worship the same set of gods as the Eldar do, with a few minor changes here and there, but theirs are all still alive. Since Chaos (called the Ruinous Powers more often in Fantasy) came as a result of the Old Ones fucking up their attempts at protecting the world from Chaos instead of anything the elves did (quite the contrary, the High Elves actually manage to beat Chaos back into the Warp constantly and even fight alongside other races towards common goals with regularity), Khaine never heard any prophesy about mortal elves harming him and thus never had a reason to kill them, so the War in Heaven never happened. In addition, gods are much more powerful and an entire pantheon could probably take a single Chaos God on.

The Fantasy version of Asuryan is not called the Phoenix King, because that title belongs to one of the two rulers of Ulthuan whom he personally judges and blesses (or throws into a deep frier, pisses on, and drops back into the mortal world for being an egocentric dick). Instead, he is known as the Emperor of the Heavens and the Creator, and is said to adjudicate disputes between the gods and hold the flame of life in his hand.

He has a plan, one so well crafted that Tzeentch's plans are mere hiccups here and there. It ends with an ultimate battle between good and evil, and if good wins the Chaos Gods will fall and be forever banished into the Warp and thus be unable to meddle in mortal affairs ever again. The overall outcome of that battle isn't certain, except a few things like the fact dragons will go extinct in it one way or the other. Sigmar may or may not be in on this plan, but he is a part of it. Asuryan's shrine is so blessed that Daemons require a very powerful Greater Daemon, on N'kari's level, to even manifest with any degree of stability. His monks and priests are immune to fear since they know the Asuryan's plan for everything including their ultimate fates (kinda sucks upon being inducted into the order when you find out in three months you're going to be raped by ten Warriors of Chaos and your soul will be eaten by Slaanesh, but HEY at least you know it's coming). Finally, High Elves take the name they call themselves (Asur) from his name (with Wood Elves calling themselves Asrai, and Dark Elves being known as Druchii).

According to the fluff from the third bookset of The End Times, Asuryan and his daughter are actually refugees from a previous world that was overrun by Chaos, part of a cosmic cycle that is doomed to repeat itself unto infinity. Though Asuryan perishes during the End Times, the former Wood Elf Araloth is sent to a new world by Lileath with their daughter, to be the new Asuryan of the next world. Unfortunately for Lileath, when Duke Jerrod of Bretonnia confronts her, no doubt pissed off after learning that the god his people were serving turned out to be a two-faced manipulative bitch, Be'lakor eavesdrops and learns about Lileath's safehaven. As a result, the Chaos gods murderrape it before Araloth has a chance to make anything out of it, most likely doing the same thing to both Araloth and his daughter in the process.
<br>— Captain Ahab, Moby-Dick

Ynnead is the Eldar <s>God of the Dead</s> <s>Voltron</s> reincarnation of David Bowie (Ha! Bet you can't unsee that now!!!! (Cegorach pls)). Or at least he will be, as he is currently being created. He is in godly limbo at the moment as the Eldar try to amass enough pure souls, or at least desireless souls, in the various craftworlds' infinity circuits to give him enough mojo to become a proper god. Part of the problem with this is that each Craftworld's Infinity Circuit is separate from the rest, meaning the Eldar's goal has the massive flaw of not having the pieces together; this is of course easily remedied by the existence of the Eternal Matrix that links all the Infinity circuits and World Spirits together through the Webway. However considering how Slaanesh turned out from their last God creating accident does this really seem like a good idea? On the other hand, the Eldar are probably going to get what is coming to them but it might not be quite how they had expected or hoped for.

This is without getting into the supreme stupidity of attempting to send essentially a giant, ultra-powerful Eldar soul against a being which is not only intrinsically tied to all Eldar souls but also considers them to be a delicacy. For fuck's sake! Stupid damn space elves! You know, the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again yet expecting a different result. With the release of the Gathering Storm its looking a lot less stupid seeing as Ynnead turns out to be Anathema to the Chaos Gods and they are actually afraid of it. Which would make sense towards Slaanesh regardless of how much weaker the full god thing might be, ut makes no sense in regards to the other gods as only Slaanesh is related to desires. On the other hand Slaanesh has already been put on a bus in Age of Sigmar and Ynnead is a pretty good way to put Slaanesh on a bus in 40k too. That being said the overall position of the Chaos Gods on Ynnead is not one really of fear, with Nurgle not minding assisting in its birth, with only Slaanesh expressing any extreme trepidation over the matter (although also finding Ynnari far tastier than any other Eldar). Over all the four Chaos Gods consider the birth of Ynnead as far less important than the return of Roboute, with their servants and minions only being said to be stirred to great frenzy when Roboute's return was confirmed, and the gods themselves all competing to be the first to claim Roboute. They likely also fear him restoing order to the Imperium because, y’know, Chaos, Order, it’s obvious. Indeed of the servants of Slaanesh none of note have really even seemed to notice or care about the birth of a God intended to destroy the Young Prince, and Ynnead has so far demonstrated little power beyond bringing Space Marines back to life, with no major change in the fortunes of the Eldar at all, other than the empowering of the Imperium.

The whole process of god creation is a bit of a tricky one to explain, but we'll try to keep it simple.

Basically, Ynnead is the Eldar's last hope against Slaanesh. When the bitch-goddess was born, she devoured most of the Eldar race, and their souls, and most of their gods, and basically caused a lot of things to get badly screwed up, making a terrible mess in the toilet afterwards that the Eldar where forced to mop up. The crap on the wall that won't scrub off was that the surviving Eldar found Slaanesh was constantly hungering for their souls, laying in wait for the moment when any member of their race died to completely consume them. In the past the Eldar believed that when they died, their soul would be reincarnated in the form of a Jokaero. Since they are bio-weapons of the Old Ones, this actually makes a twisted sort of sense. With Slaanesh's coming though, the Eldar's ability to reincarnate disappeared.

To save themselves from this fate, the Craftworld Eldar use spiritstones to trap their souls upon death. The spiritstone is then used to inter the soul within the infinity circuit of a craftworld, next to a carefully placed egg timer, where the soul is free to roam around and commingle with the other Eldar souls of the craftworld.

As more souls over time have been added to the infinity circuits, the Eldar Farseers have perceived something stirring from this collection of souls; this is Ynnead, a god formed from untainted Eldar souls and the power of Asuryan, the king of the Eldar gods, who passed on his power to the Farseers of the Eldar before he was devoured by Slaanesh. The Farseers believe that when the last Craftworld Eldar dies, Ynnead will be fully born and will rise up to cast down Slaanesh, destroying him/her/it forever. I guess the Eldar are more interested in revenge than survival and too egotistical to simply modify their souls slightly so they’d still be Eldar but too different to be connected to Slaanesh. Stupid elves are stupid.
,
It's unknown whether this is feasible or not considering Slaanesh's immense power, but Ynnead is the Eldar race's last, best hope for a better future (except it’d be born after the Eldar are effectively extinct), and so all their efforts go towards making him as strong as possible. Plus, Khorne would probably jump at the chance to finally get rid of Slaanesh and its merry band of chickenshits once and for all, consequences be damned. Malal might even help in some way. Look at the picture. A black/white color scheme. Familiar?

All of this assumes that Ynnead would give a shit about any of this, of course. The Eldar's past track record for creating gods makes it highly dubious that this one will turn out any better, and as far as anyone knows it could just make like Nagash and try to make itself a Chaos God instead. Then again, Slaanesh was born out of unbridled hedonism, giving him/her/it/xe the theme of extreme pleasure. Ynnead is born out of the dead post-fall Eldar who are vengeful but still optimistic stuck-ups, so Ynnead would theoretically be born out of the Eldar's vengeance and hopes for a better tomorrow. Assuming it follows the same process as Slaanesh; Ynnead probably won't go rogue and will follow the main purpose of its creation. Probably. There's really not a lot of events where a god was created in a controlled environment, the last one was the C'Tan and that went horribly wrong for the Necrontyr, so Ynnead could just derp out and murder everything at one point. Plus, being connect to Eldar souls means it’ll probably end up consuming them like Slaanesh does and eventually be corrupted and go crazy from the clash of consuming both Craftworld/Exodite and Dark Eldar souls. Those extremes can’t be healthy for its sanity eventually.

There is also the problem that Ynnead is a god created out of fear and hopelessness, strengthened by death, and who seems to fixate on the number seven. It isn't helping that Nurgle is totally okay with Ynnead being born and one of the last Eldar gods is currently in Nurgle's possession.

The Star Child/Ynnead Theory
There is a theory stating that when the Emperor screwed Horus's soul to the wall, part of the Emperor's soul was also cast into the Warp. This Emprasoul fragment is the Star Child, another god waiting to be reborn—or perhaps to be reincarnated into human flesh. If the remains of the Emperor were ever to die, the tiny spark of soul left in his body would re-united with the greater whole, and according to prophecy, stalemate the four Chaos Gods while the races of the galaxy were left to battle it out in one last great Ragnarok scenario.

More recent (2006 onwards) fluff from Xenology grants some credence to this theory by suggesting an image of an "unborn child surrounded in starlight" as one of the three future survivors of the galaxy's conflicts (the others being Khaine and the Laughing God). While this may refer specifically to Ynnead, who is supposed to be born from the Webway when the last Eldar has died, it is now conceivable that Ynnead and the Emperor's star child are the same entity, particularly with the revelations in Horus Heresy that the Golden Throne is a (failed) doorway into the Webway itself. The newest fluff however has shown that the Gate beneath the palace was shut down and sealed off and the area within the Webway around the breach was sealed off by the Eldar to prevent the Daemons from spreading further so the Emperors spirit would not have had any way to enter upon his "death". Ynnead may indeed be the unborn child surrounded in starlight, but with the most recent events its very likely that that possible future has been altered; but then again with the way its shaping up if Ynnead does survive and continues to exist past the Rhana Dandra then the chance of an Eldar resurrection is still on the table even if they all die in the conflict. The same is true if the Emperor survives in some form, considering his super power. Psykers can “push” their powers past their limits. Arter the end, the Warp will be calm and with how powerful the Emperor is one can only attempt to imagine how powerful he would be and hoe far he could push. Likely sacrificing his very existence to resurrect humanity as “New Man” such as himself. Since being resurrect is part of making perpetuals, every human might rival the Emperor’s power and would be a perpetual. Suck it, Elfdar!

This is made more relevant when you consider the fact that the Eldar Gods (possibly the Old Ones or created by them) do not belong exclusively to the Eldar alone, and were active amongst several races all at the same time. However there is historical examples of this happening in our own history, like how other cultures adopted the roman Pantheon when the Roman Empire existed; the Eldar Gods are still the Eldar Gods but seeing as they ruled the Galaxy (or their little section of it and all of the Websay, actually) for such a long time it is not surprising that other races started to worship them as well. So Ynnead does not have to be an "Eldar" god, just a powerful enough being to actually count as a god. The Emperor ticks that box, finally unifying the two species in the galaxy with the most in common, and, truth be told, the least reason to fight (except for the Dark Eldar). If anything, perhaps the Emperor has yoinked the whole Ynnead thing and that thing was programmed to heal and empower the Emperor. Maybe sacrificing itself to him like the thousand psykers a day do. He has had a major psychic prsence in the Webway before the Eldar sealed off that section, after all and probably would have sensed Ynnead forming (or foreeen it while connected) and decided to use it for humanity rather than risk it turning against mankind.

On the other hand, the star child theory's biggest proponents proved to be cultists of Tzeentch, which makes it very likely that all of the above is completely untrue. Or more likely, because Tzeentch, it is nonsensical but completely true from a certain point of view. So believe what you will, and always act on the assumption that most of it is wrong somehow. Of course, considering Chaos and Tzeentch, he might really be plotting to end everything simply for the sake of plotting. It would make sense that he, by nature, must plot to do anything and everything. Literally. Even his own demise.

Although a good theory the release of the Gathering Storm books and the release of the first book set in the 8th edition timeline (Dark Imperium) pretty much proves this one false. Ynnead is already partially awake and already has an avatar running around and the Emperor is still alive and has already had a conversation with Roboute Guilliman (although Guilliman certainly did not like the experience; poor boy (oh boo hoo. If anyone has the right to be an asshat it is the Emperor what with his ten thousand years of constant, horrific suffering. Grow a pair, girlyman)).

The Gathering Storm
Ynnead is prematurely "born" during the 13th Black Crusade following the fall of Cadia. Eldrad Ulthran attempts to summon him early by stealing the fossilized bodies of all the dead Farseers of all the craftworlds and conducting an elaborate ritual on a crystal moon. It gets fucked up by the Deathwatch and only a tiny fraction of Ynnead enters the Materium.

After searching through space, this fragment discovers Yvraine. Due to her history she was considered the ultimate expression of being Eldar because apparently the true Eldar are supposed to travel all the paths of life, even the dark ones. With her is the Visarch, a former Exarch of the Dire Avengers who trained Yvraine and had his heart broken when she chose to leave rather than succeed him. He ended up sneaking into Comorragh, pretended to be an Incubus, and fought his way to Yvraine after she unlocked the power of The Sword of Sorrows actually had one of the severed fingers of Morai-Heg forged into a sword by Vaul. The Visarch would later get his own sweet croneblade The Sword of Silence when it was pulled from the heart of Craftworld Biel-Tan.

Together, Yvraine and the Visarch become the prophets of Ynnead, preaching that not ALL the Eldar have to die for Ynnead to be born. This ends up fracturing Eldar society at all levels, and Biel-Tan ends up tearing itself apart over whether or not this is actually Eldar heresy. The destruction of Biel-Tan causes all kinds of Warp holes to tear themselves into existence around the ruins, and Ynnead births an Avatar through them known as the Yncarne (get the pun?), the one-horned ghost-fire model that's been making the rounds in photos of the latest White Dwarf.

Yvraine, Visarch, and Yncarne are now gathering an army of all the branches of the Eldar race who believe they can fight Chaos without all having to hara-kiri, while those who don't believe in Ynnead are preparing to kill all the heretics for daring to alter the fate of the Eldar. Eldrad is himself imprisoned and placed on trial by the Eldar Inquisition, because he's not Eldar enough, and proposed, after his failure to birth Ynnead, allying with the Imperium of Man to defeat Chaos once and for all. Even if the other Eldar don't like the idea of becoming best buddies with the Imperium they still reluctantly agreed that they are still the best of a bad bunch, what with the other options being either the Orks or Tau both of who are either too "young" (translated as to naïve and inexperienced to face the forces of Chaos and so small that they are utterly insignificant compared to even most minor xenos species anyway, plus the Eldar who secretly uplifted them and created the Ethersls abandoned them for crippling uncreativity and so could not adapt to fighting the varied Chaos threats) or simply too uncooperative and uncouth to be allied with (better use of time manipulating them from the shadows rather then try and negotiate with them), that didn't stop Yvraine from helping to resurrect Roboute Guilliman, so perhaps an actual alliance may be possible.

It may also be that Ynnead simply disagrees with the stupidity of not allying with the only faction both willing and able and actively doing something against chaos. Lead by someone Chaos calls “the Anathema” and whose mere title causes metaphysical pain to daemons and whose empire is essentially an anti-Chaos warmachine. It could also be possible that once Rowboat Girlyman gets in charge the Imperium will stop killing everything that isn't human (except the space monsters and genuinely evil aliens...which basically all aliens anyway) and start killing everything that is a demon with them. But 40k isn't Star Trek. Its Army of Darkness meets Aliens, and also possibly Hellraiser. If you think this has a happy ending you haven't been paying attention. At best each side will keep the other at an arm's length and keep fighting the endless Tyranids, and only marginally ignore the other, particularly when they have a horrific past of dickery, slavery, and genocide at both sides (except the Eldar repeatedly bring destruction upon themselves and the Imperium usually decides to spare them as not a true threat to humanity whereas all other bad shit such as dickery, slavery, and outright wanton genocide is only performed by thr Eldar against humans). The Imperium makes a point not to betray alien allies because the aliens very nearly always betray the Imperium and the propaganda machine has yet another example of human moral superiority. Which means the Ynnari will likely betray the Imperium despite Yvraine and Eldrad wanting to make an honest, lasting alliance. Which they would not have needed if the Eldar had simply never gotten in the Imperium’s way and pointed out enemies that also threatened Eldar lives for the Imperium to smash for them.

==The Star Child/Ynnead Theory==

Even if the other Eldar don't like the idea of becoming best buddies with the Imperium they still reluctantly agreed that they are still the best of a bad bunch, what with the other options being either the Orks or Tau both of who are either too "young" (translated as to naïve and inexperienced to face the forces of Chaos) or simply too uncooperative and uncouth to be allied with (better use of time manipulating them from the shadows rather then try and negotiate with them), that didn't stop Yvraine from helping to resurrect Roboute Guilliman, so perhaps an actual alliance may be possible.

It may also be that Ynnead simply disagrees with the stupidity of not allying with the only faction both willing and able and actively doing something against chaos. It could also be possible that once Rowboat Girlyman gets in charge the Imperium will stop killing everything that isn't human and start killing everything that is a demon with them. But 40k isn't Star Trek. Its Army of Darkness meets Aliens, and also possibly Hellraiser. If you think this has a happy ending you haven't been paying attention. At best each side will keep the other at an arm's length and keep fighting the endless Tyranids, and only marginally ignore the other, particularly when they have a horrific past of dickery, slavery, and genocide at both sides.

Grow a pair, girlyman.).
