Cromwald Walgrun, known as the Lion of Sommesgard, is primarch of legion IX (The Lions Rampant). A master strategist and gifted orator, he stood as a gentleman and noble soul. His insistence upon the utmost in standards of conduct and dress for himself and his legion made them a famed and vaunted legion in the eyes of the Imperium. This only made his downfall all the greater a loss for the Imperium, as his corruption now sees him as the chosen of Slaanesh, exalted among the followers of the Prince of Excess.

History
Youth
The early years of Cromwald were far removed from the lofty heights of a master of armies. From his pod the young primarch lived as an orphan in the pre-industrial streets of Sommesgard, where survival was a matter of wits, charisma and luck. Possessing all three, Cromwald grew rapidly into a shrewd and cunning survivor whose wit and impressive stature gained him the attention and patronage of Captain Edgar Walgrun of the Prathian army. Seeing potential in the young man, he afforded Cromwald the finest education and privilege of wealth and station. Given his origins, Cromwald plunged headlong into the indulgences of his newfound wealth; he consumed every new experience with a voracious appetite. He glutted himself on books and knowledge, threw himself headlong into the finer trappings of his newfound station, and found a drive to see the world anew with every opportunity to travel and test himself physically and mentally. Quickly Cromwald met the limits of what the world had to offer, and resolved himself to pursue new avenues. If the world could not give him a new adventure, he would make one for himself. He threw the wealth and prestige of the Walgrun name behind countless endeavors, becoming a patron of the sciences that would drive Prathia into an industrial age. With the revolution of automation, new methods of exploration and adventure opened up before him, but as with all things, these new sciences were turned to the purpose of war.

Sommesgard was host to regular clashes of nations in the constant shifting of power across the globe. These battles were fought in trenches and columns, with rifle and cannon. The revolution of industry had yet to transform the face of war on Sommesgard, until Prathia began to swell under the surge of raw scientific progress. The armies under her banner were armed with the fruits of the new industry, with engines capable of bearing soldiers over great distances in safety, and weapons of terrible power compared to the rifles of old. As with the sciences, Cromwald became a patron of the military. His education included extensive training in strategy and military history, and he took well to the lessons of exercising force on a national level. He became a pioneer of the new orders of battle, personally sponsoring and testing armored vehicles and mighty weapons in the crucible of combat against Prathia's neighbors.

Though gifted in battle, the true measure of Cromwald's genius as a general came with his boldness, his willingness to bring untested methods and engines to the front lines and apply them with stunning results. Under his command the first divisions of armored tanks rolled across the enemy lines in an unstoppable wave, while infantry clashed with aggressive strategies that relied of steely nerves and daring bravado to seize the initiative. Those nations unswayed by the boisterous oratory of the newly minted Field Marshal Walgrun fell swiftly to his relentless pursuit of global unification under one banner. Though he never claimed ambitions to rule, none would deny that when the final battle ended and the world was made as one, the prosperity to follow was the work of his hands.

A full decade of technological and social advancement followed, interrupted abruptly by the annihilation of the old state of Berau. Once a center for industry, Berau was wiped from the face of the earth by a monstrous meteor impact. The first rock fell directly into the city center, and soon after waves of other, lesser meteors crashed into Sommesgard in a hail of destruction. From these rocks poured forth a violent tide of barbarian greenskins, a foe unlike anything the people of Sommesgard had ever known. The ensuing war was savage, as the initial wave of orks overran a full half of the planet unchecked with their fury and superior engines of war. Cromwald, the unmatched and unbeatable general saw victory wherever he made a stand, but across the rest of Sommesgard losses were catastrophic in the face of terrifying walkers and steel behemoths. At the heart of it all rose a foul effigy to the Orky gods; a stompa constructed by the big mek leading the green tide. In a desperate bid to break the advancing horde, Cromwald led an armored spearhead against the titanic war machine, but found himself nearly annihilated alongside his vehicle under the massive guns of the stompa. With his right arm obliterated in the blast, he was forced to board the stompa and fight his way to the mek bare handed and injured, with only his innate inhuman physiology sustaining him. He broke the ork morale with the defeat of the big mek, and claimed a crude bionik arm as a trophy to replace the limb he had lost.

The following war waged on for decades, with the implacable will of the men of Sommesgard tested sorely against the brutality of the orks. Only with the coming of the Emperor was the battle finally won. His arrival was heralded with a counter-invasion of astartes, who joined the beleaguered defenders to break the green tide once and for all. The meeting of father and son was heralded with triumphant fanfare as it marked the end of a long and bitter generation of terror and strife.

The Great Crusade
Cromwald Walgrun, Lion of Prathia and Field Marshal of the armies of Sommesgard was the final primarch to be discovered during the Great Crusade. The reunion between Emperor and primarch was a joyous one, for there was much work still to be done, even after so many long years of warfare on a galactic scale. For his part, Cromwald viewed the Emperor's charge of conquest as a brilliant new means to explore and adventure beyond the domains of his homeworld; his acceptance of his role in the Crusade was wholly without reservation. In celebration, master artisans among the remembrancer order were commissioned to restore the glories of Berau, which would become the new seat of Legion IX's administration. Alongside the reconstruction of the devastated city came a symbolic gesture from the Mechanicum. Gifted to Cromwald was a bionic arm crafted by the greatest tech adepts the expeditionary fleet possessed. The new limb was peerless in design and shone with a magnificent platinum luster that could not be dulled. Leaving behind his crude graft as a trophy of victory, the Lion of Prathia ascended to meet his gene-children whole once more.

The reunion between Primarch and legion would be met with far less adulation and praise. The Highland Raiders were a dirty, inglorious rabble, wholly unlike the noble ideal of Astartes Cromwald had envisioned. Their assembled strength consisted of a somber, joyless lot shod in dull grey. No heraldry or banners depicted honors or glory in their ranks. To a celebrated conqueror such as Cromwald, it was an insult to his genetic legacy that his men be so utterly without pride in themselves or their accomplishments.

Five years were spent restructuring his legion and injecting fresh blood into their ranks. The nature of the newly christened Lions would swiftly change to reflect the dynamic leadership of their primarch, but such would not end his woes. By the time Cromwald had been reunited with his legion, the crusade was well underway for over a century. He was the last primarch to be discovered, and his brethren all by then had a list of accolades and honors that left him faced with personal inadequacy. His legion's reputation would take time and effort to salvage, for even after they had been reforged many voices would still jeer at the Emperor's dogs, ill fit for the glories other, more capable legions garnered. Cromwald seethed quietly for his damaged pride, as each slight against his gene-sons was an insult to his daring leadership and peerless abilities. In this respect, he became a driven man; his honor demanded that the Lions earn their place as heroes of the Crusade. No number of victories would satisfy his need to prove his worth, nor would any accolade ease his need to be the greatest among his brethren.

Naked ambition would serve to sour relations between Cromwald and several of his brothers. He would cross words with his more refined kin with some regularity, as his differing worldview and brazen attitude to life matched poorly with more reserved or jaded primarchs. Similarly, his pride in his pedigree would alienate others further; he viewed the less refined of his kinsmen as a tragic waste of potential. Such an attitude, matched by patronizing words left Cromwald with cold relations to several brothers.

Only in the company of other gentlemen did his sometimes abrasive demeanor ease. Above all others, Roman Albrecht could instill humility and fraternity in Cromwald. In each other's company pride became a matter of sport, and consequently camaraderie grew between the Steel Marshals and the Lions Rampant to reflect the close knit friendship of their masters. The even temperament of the noble Albrecht for a time would bring peace to Cromwald, tempering his ambition with a degree of patience he would otherwise have lacked.

The Hektor Heresy
Post-Heresy
After the defeat of the Warmaster, the Lions fled to avoid annihilation. Unlike many of the Traitor Legions, they did not make for the Eye of Terror. Instead they split into divisions and headed for the far rim of the galaxy, on the outskirts of Segmentum Ultima, raiding targets for supplies as opportunity arose to sustain themselves in their flight. They lurked on the edge of the galaxy and waited for the Scouring to slowly burn itself out, laying low and keeping their forces split to avoid being slaughtered all at once.

As the Scouring began to fade, the Lions reorganised their efforts, with the Legion once again falling under the iron fist of their Primarch. He led them to begin raiding and pillaging Imperial worlds across the edges of charted space. At first he did so with near impunity; his warbands landed and conquered in lightning fast strikes that shattered the defender's command structure and crippled their fighting will, then set about the task of rebuilding the world in Slaanesh's name. Those who did not convert were subjugated by those who did.

The momentum of these raids slowly picked up, until the Lions were no longer a force that could be denied or ignored. A task force consisting of several chapters of Space Marines, numerous Guard regiments, the Inquisition and the young Ministorum descended upon the slowly expanding empire of excess and begin reclaiming it in the Emperor's name. Heretics burned by the billion as the Crusade pressed on, hounding the Lions and bringing them to battle at every turn. The heretics' power was shattered when Cromwald, now a Daemon Prince of Slaanesh, was finally cornered and ultimately struck down. With their leader cast back into the warp, the Legion splintered and scattered. Several warbands were annihilated by the vengeful crusaders, but many escaped to scatter across the stars. From there they begin to pursue their own objectives and desires. Some fight their Primarch's war still in his absence, others fell to infighting, others simply wage war for the sake of the carnage and glory of Chaos. Only in the Black Crusades are the Lions brought back together in any meaningful fashion, where they relive a brief throwback to their glories as a Legion.

Personality
Though bold and boisterous, Cromwald above all prides himself on being a clever man of clearly refined tastes. He demands of himself carriage that befits the pride of his station, and sees his reputation and honor as paramount in importance. This drives him to be something of a renaissance man; to be uninitiated in the many manners by which a man can be measured is to admit himself as a lesser son of the Emperor. Such stubbornness driven by pride only fuels his brazen love for his cultivated, larger than life image of the scholar-adventurer.

This pride is also his greatest flaw, however. As the last of the primarchs to be found, Cromwald nurses an inferiority complex beneath the bluster and posturing that burns eternally. Beneath the mask of pride lay the need to not only succeed, but to surpass the achievements of his peers. While an excellent driving force, it sometimes drives him to ignore aid when offered, refusing to portray himself or his legion in any light that could be construed as weakness or inability.

Appearance
Cromwald has all the bearing of an aristocrat; he carries himself with confidence and poise as befitting his upbringing and is rarely seen in any state less than perfectly groomed. His charcoal shaded hair is short and neat, as is his well trimmed and maintained mustache. These are framed by prominent cheekbones and a well rounded, ruddy facial structure that lends him a noble, fatherly air. Despite his impressive presence as a primarch, he stands as disarmingly pleasant to look upon. Only his deep set brown eyes suggest anything other than a polite, erudite father figure. They are ever watchful, and have been likened to that of a hawk. No matter how amiable his expression or polite his demeanor, there can be no mistaking that Cromwald is constantly weighing the measure of those in his company.

Wargear
The Marshal's Rebuke - Originally a sidearm common to tank crews of Sommesgard, the Rebuke was a howdah pistol extensively modified for use by Cromwald's hand. Further upgraded by the artisans of the Mechanicum, it now sports two monstrous barrels fed with ammunition of an excessively large caliber. This miniature cannon possesses remarkable power and is said to ring clear over the din of battle, no matter how violent the sortie may become.

Triumph - The hallmark weapon of the Lion's armored divisions is the cavalry saber, suitably enlarged for use by Astartes. In this tradition Cromwald bears a curved blade of similar make, incorporating a singularly powerful weaponized conversion field that renders armor useless against its shining blade. With short, masterful strokes its wielder can hew through heavily armored foes, making even the battle plate of a tank vulnerable in the face of precise strikes of an expert swordsman.

Aldmund's Plate- Armor crafted for the Primarch by the Lions Rampant master of the forge, Otto Aldmund. So impressed was the Primarch with his son's work that he insisted Otto inscribe his own sigil on the breastplate of the armor. The armor provides a 2+ 4++. In addition, Cromwald ignores psychic maladictions and witchfires on a 4+ (rolled seperate from deny the witch) and he always counts as having assault and defensive grenades.

The Marshal's Rebuke- "You come to our world and claim it as your own? Child, our race was old when your race wa-" BOOM. S7, AP3, 24' assault 2. Rending on 5+ and sunder

Triumph- Sabre of the Primarch. S:+1 AP1, Armorbane, Disruption (Any vehicle's AV value is counted as AV12 if it would otherwise be higher. Lance for melee, basically), and Rending on 5+

Bold Strategist- Seize the initiative on a 4+ and you can reroll reserve rolls if you so choose. Additionally, *insert special Lions rampant elite unit* become troops choices.

Inspired Pride- All models in your army with Legiones Astartes: Lions Rampant gain Stubborn, and all units in the army gain preferred enemy against their counterpart in the enemy army (troops gain preferred enemy against troops, heavy support against heavy support, etc), but only against units with the Legiones Astartes rule.

Thundering Steeds of Iron- All vehicles in the army with one armor facing of greater than 12 can make a scout move after deployment, or add an additional 6' to their scout move if they could already make them. Additionally, they have Move Through Cover for the first turn.

Cromwald is pretty down the middle as far as primarchs go. He's not as killy as Roman, or as Durable as Tiran or Golgothos, and he doesn't buff as well as Hektor or Johannes, but he does all those things reasonably well. He's better against tanks than most, what with his "fuck your AV" AP1 sword and Rending mean that if he rolls a 6 while hitting a tank, he's practically guarenteed to blow it up (2D6 against AV12, D6 + 2 + d3 on the damage table), and his gun is better than most, being more or less an assault autocannon with better AP that he can fire on the charge. Additionally, having assault and defensive grenades mean he's better with charges, giving and taking, and for all that, he still buffs your army quite nicely, especially if you're a tread head, and he's one of the cheapest primarchs. All this means that Cromwald is actually one of the best primarch choices when it comes to relative points value to cost ratio.

Consider that you can stick him and a squad of elites in a spartan. That spartan can now scout 12 inches up the field, flat out 12 inches, disembark 6 inches, then charge. Assuming your opponent is using the "primarch in a spartan" method, you can cross the field, charge his tank, blow it up with your tankfucker sword, then butcher everyone inside it. Even if you fail the charge and come up short, who cares, you have defensive grenades.
This page details people, events, and organisations from The /tg/ Heresy, a fan re-working of the Warhammer 40,000 Universe.

He was gifted in the medical arts, but it was a narrow understanding at best. Aubrey did not see the parallel between the human body and the human society. A healthy immune system does not let "tolerance" prevent the elimination of foreign bodies or diseased cells. The Great Crusade taught the rest of us that this truth of nature also applies to politics.

(Excerpt from Gaspard Lumey's private correspondence.)

History
Youth
Aubrey's childhood was an oddity, even for a primarch; when he was lost, he was thrown onto a planet that was already inhabited; it was inhabited by Xenos called Tarellians. It was a grand debate on whether or not the small primarch should live; he only did so upon the mercy of a sadistic general, deciding to see whether or not the small child could survive the rough life of a Tarellian.

Aubrey was brought up in the lowest caste of Tarellian culture; The Doctors. In Tarellian culture, it was the doctors who were the disgrace; for a warrior, the highest honour and caste of the Tarellians, to have his blood spilled in anything but combat, such as by a surgeon, was the most vilified of possibilities. Aubrey showed prowess in learning, quickly becoming one of the most renowned doctors of the Tarellians in his early twenties.

It was then that his life came to a twist as he saved the life of the general who decided to save his life. The General and Aubrey made a pact; if Aubrey told no-one of his surgery, the General would allow Aubrey to become a warrior.

Aubrey rose through the ranks as quickly as he rose through the medical world, becoming a valiant warrior and leader, soon taking the place of the now retired general. His ascension to general was a very treacherous one. As he made his way through the ranks, many questioned his ability based upon Xenophobia.

Aubrey learned quickly, the only way to silence the sniping comments made of him was to hurt their pride; while his voice could not be heard, his blade could. He picked up the sword and became well versed in swordplay, throwing all of his spare time into practice. It was not unusual for an officer to bring a sword by his hip into the theatre of war, but not many openly used it to its intended purpose as a weapon.

After many assaults upon him, he dueled his way to a bregrudging form of respect, and he was eventually approached by Brother Makai, Major Vex, and Sergeant Vaas. Major Vex had also been another rising star in the military, and many had compared Aubrey to Vex. Due to this, Vex had a grudge; how could some lowly off-worlder garner so much respect?
Vex challenged Aubrey to single combat. Soon, the two locked in a duel with Aubrey clearly winning. However Vex had an edge; his brother Vaas had slipped into Aubrey's blind spot and struck Aubrey with a club, allowing Vex to wound Aubrey.

Aubrey's pride was wounded; regardless of the obvious interference, he knew the only way for him to regain that status was to beat Vex and Vaas at the same time. It was upon this revelation that he took up a second sword, taking his time to master the ways of the dual blade.

He once again approached Vex, demanding a rematch. A very cocksure Vex accepted, a more cocksure Vaas insulting Aubrey and attempting to enrage the Primarch. All they found was an icy emerald gaze in return.

The fight began; Aubrey toyed with Vex, hunting his prey, slowly frying him, while showing only a single sword. Aubrey was waiting, anticipating Vaas. All his senses flaring open, and when he felt confident, he went on the offense, forcing Vex into a corner he couldn't escape from. Vaas made his move and when he did, he found his club blocked by a second sword. Aubrey turned his attention to Vaas, ruthlessly disarming then striking him down. He was left bleeding, but only wounded. Vex, in a blind rage, rushed at Aubrey, letting the Primarch quickly dispatch him as well. From that day on, Aubrey held his head high, two swords by his side.

After Aubrey had put down the fourth "Aubreyian Rebellion," composed of Tarellian purists coming mostly from the far flung planets in the system, he was prepared to launch a colonisation effort. That was when the crusade ships appeared on Lazarus. Hektor, the Emperor's most trusted son had descended to Lazarus, seeking to meet his brother. He had learned the location of such a man through the whisperings of communications within the Tarellians' small empire.

Hektor made a show of appearing before the Xenos and asked for Aubrey. Aubrey presented himself, dressed very well in a very fine coat of black, scaled leather.
Hektor proceeded to converse with him. However, his tongue was different, and he was somewhat shocked himself to hear Aubrey speaking in a serpentine tongue. Aubrey stood in front of what would become his Legion, attempting to stop them from purging the Xenos. Hektor soon realised that these Xenos were under Aubrey's command.

After a few months, Hektor, being the first human Aubrey had ever laid eyes on, began to form a bond as a mentor and student bond developed. Aubrey had the beginnings of Higher Gothic under his belt and he was finally ready to see the Emperor.

Aubrey was a devout atheist, but he never stopped his Tarrellian subordinates worship of their old gods. Aubrey could never relate to a god of lizardian visage, but when he saw the Emperor, he could not help be feel awed. However, despite this, Aubrey began to debate with his father. This became a long arduous week of debating, during which Hektor interjected his opinions, some for the Trellians and some against. Hektor wished to side with his brother, but he knew the dangers of manipulative xenos. By the skin of their teeth, as well as an agreement of quarantine, the Emperor allowed the Xenos to live.

The Great Crusade
After years of inspiring Xenos, beings fundamentally disparate to his entire being, it did not take the Primarch long to gain the trust of his legion.

It was then, with caution and the Emperor's unknowing, that the Tarellians formed an Auxiliary under his legion, making sure to keep his secrets from his brothers.

Aubrey led his Legion, upon the Warmaster's orders, to recapture a human colony and to bring it back to the Imperium. However, events had been set in motion by Uriel, Primarch of the Children of Armok. Whilst in combat with the heavily fortified foe, the Tarellians, the Zealots' Xeno Auxiliary, as well as the host of the homeworld of Aubrey and his legion, had began their Coup.

The Captain of the 1st Company had been felled, and a number of the Xenos were beset upon him and his Legion. He survived, wounded, and sent out a message to his homeworld. A third of the legion was stationed there to keep an eye on the Xenos by the Emperor's order. There was no response from the homeworld and he feared the worst; his hands were tied, for he couldn't pull out of the world without withstanding unneeded losses. Seeing no other alternative, he called out to one of his battle-brothers; Bohemond of the Knights of Justice Legion.

Bohemond rushed to the planet, vengeance in his heart. These filthy xenos had betrayed his brother, regardless of his naivety. When he landed, he was received with the glares of the Captains of the Eternal Zealots as the Knights of Justice opened fire on the Tarellians. However, to the Knights' surprise, the Zealots returned fire.

The messages from the Primarch had been intercepted by the group responsible for the betrayal; a large anti-Imperium faction, they had manipulated the message, reporting to the Captains stationed there that Aubrey had been slain by Bohemond and he had come to Lazarus, their homeworld, to finish the job.

The fighting lasted for a week before a wounded Aubrey and Uriel, who arrived in time to bolster his forces on the world, arrived. Aubrey was livid, for most of his forces had been killed. He shouted, bellowed and threatened to beat Bohemond, and they were about to come to blows before Uriel stepped in, saying that he had to return to his legion.

Aubrey was contacted by the Emperor, his face stern and unamused. He berated the Primarch for allowing this to happen, reminding him of what he had said the day he arrived to Lazarus; that Xenos were never to be trusted, for they were treacherous, selfish beings that wanted naught but their own advancement. They cared not for Aubrey, nor his ambitions. Aubrey was silent through the entire communication. Near the conclusion, the Emperor, after reminding Aubrey of his naivety and disappointment, told Aubrey that Bohemond has been ordered to purge the system of the Xenos and Aubrey was to stand down while they did their work. The Primarch said with a sorrowful heart that he understood. He went then to watch as the people who raised him from infancy burned for their betrayal. He felt it was unjust. He felt sorrow. He felt rage.

After his Xeno allies betrayed him and were then destroyed, planet and all, by the orders of his father, whom he admired greatly, he festered a hatred deep inside him for Bohemond and Aubrey's faith in the Emperor became shaken. Aubrey became distraught; the normal life and warmth in his face began to fade and he become a much darker man, throwing himself in the pursuits of sorcery.

During a woeful deployment near the Eye, he was confronted by the Primarch Kranios after the battle had been fought and won.

The pair of brothers had no love for each other, coming to verbal blows during Nikaea Council, ironically the pair were on the pro-psyker side when it happened. Aubrey would not be mocked on his stance of medicative sorcery.

Kranios then began to openly mock him for his trust in the Tarellians, laughing at his expense and pain over his lost family calling such things pathetic and hilarious. Aubrey became enraged and tired of his brothers tirade struck the man in the throat so that it might end.

The pair came to blows, After an seemingly endless number of hours Kranios began to bellow and chortle. This was the final straw for Aubrey.
He struck his brother with a violent fist of unrelenting rage brought on by his adrenal glands, knocking out the other Primarch and putting a sword to his throat to end him.

His better judgement however told him to spare the Primarch as it would be more fitting being beaten by the Primarch, who he had claimed was the weakest physically of all of their brothers.
The thought of his humiliation stayed Aubreys blade before he dragged him to the nearest captain.

He ordered the Horns of Ruin off planet with the threat of slaying their progenitor if he should ever glance at him again.

This event then fostered a rivalry between the two legions that would continue for millennia to come, even after both of their legions turning.

The Hektor Heresy
After the betrayal, their Primarch threw himself further into his studies of magicks to be used for an alternate form of healing. It was then that Uriel introduced a race of Chaos worshiping Xenos; The Cyfecti, a race close to the Eye of Terror who worshipped the Great Eye and the mighty beings that dwelt within. Uriel had kept this secret in the hopes it could be used, and no other would be so easy to fall to this bait then Aubrey. When contacted by the Zealots, the Cyfecti invited them down to their planet and Aubrey was witness to a summoning of a Daemon, which spoke to him. Thus were his eyes opened, showing him the proof of these magicks and giving Aubrey the deal he could never refuse, in the name of medicine. Aubrey would go on to use these powers to corrupt the wounded Warmaster Hektor and cause him to fall to Chaos.

Aubrey wanted a better Imperium, where men and xenos could live in prosperity; this was his vision and no one could get in his way now that he had a god on his side. His legion believed now, fully, that they would be the ones to lead a new and perfect Imperium. The Eternal Zealots then soon believed that the loyalists were beneath them and should therefore die in the name of Aubrey's new Imperium.

Now with zealotry and fanaticism, the Eternal Zealots pursue Mankind and the Imperium, world by world, shrugging off their Hippocratic Oaths of healing in favour of cutting out the tumor that is The Corpse-Emperor's followers, so that he may heal the Imperium and shape it into his own image.

Post-Heresy
Aubrey led half of his legion out into the Galatic East to sow more heresy and culminate followers to the Zealots side, resulting in the strike force style in which the Zealots exist today.

After the dividing of his Legion Aubrey resided on the planet of the Cyfecti, Sucked into the Eye of Terror, where he resided for some time inside his fortress "The Hall of Skulls", Decorated with the skulls of Knights of Justice heroes, while also sending out his sons to take any high priority target in the Imperium.

He sought to cut out the cancer of the Imperium, wishing to keep most of it intact so that he could instate his own "perfect" Imperium that is free of any xenophobia and filled with the worship of Chaos.

He disappeared into the warp in M37, seeking Roman Albrecht to finally settle once and for all who was the greatest swordsman, only finally returning in M41 when he had Ascended into Daemonhood, summoned when his Legions forces are in great need.

Personality
Naive, prideful. Aubrey is the spiritual heart of his Legion, the epitome of all that his sons stand for and all they wish to achieve. He likes to be on the front line, doing his part to keep his sons safe, challenging the leaders and champions of the enemy armies, like a surgeon cutting out the cancer of his foes.

Appearance
A lean physique, coupled with a gaunt and angular face; he tends to have a certain warmth to his face. His skin tone is pale, almost pure white in colour. His hair is silver, parted towards the right of his face and flowing, with a pair of emerald coloured eyes. He bears a pair of curved scars under his left eye, which curl towards the edge of his lip, the outer scar dwarfing the smaller scar and curling around it.

If he isn't seen with a pondering look on his face, he is either in battle or conversing with his valued brothers, normally with a small smile on his face.

When out of his armour he wears a black coat, it is said to be made of precious material as strong as adamantium, yet as soft as silk, with a green lining made of the same material. Underneath it he wears a soft leather cuirass made of weaves.

Inside of his armour, he wears a cloak made of this material, purely green over his armour.

Wargear
Aubrey wears the Armour of Lazarus. Jörmun and Gandr are a pair of matched serpentine blades, made by dark powers in the heart of the Eye, are fast as quicksilver and can slice any foe apart with ease. He also carried the Wledig crown, a gift from the King of Cattegirn that was both a symbol of his authority and a powerful relic incorporating a defensive field as strong as a Storm Sheld.

Wargear: Armor of Lazarus, Jörmun and Gandr, Wledig Crown.

Special Rules: Adamantium Will, Bitter Rage, Bulky, Crusader, Eternal Warrior, Fear, Fearless, Fleet, Furious Charge, Independent Character, It Will Not Die, Master of the Legion, Suspicious Reputation, Venomous Concoctions.

Armor of Lazarus: Primarch armor, crafted by the awesomest priests of mars, blah blah. 2+, has a jump pack that makes him jump infantry. Additionally, his jump pack may be used in both the movement and assault phases of the same turn. Provides a 4+ FNP and a rerollable 4+ IWND

Jörmun and Gandr: The twin blades of the primarch. S:U AP2, Paired (+1A), Duelists's Blades (Aubrey gains +1d6 Initiative in a challenge) faints instant death, shred and ignore eternal warrior on double 6's in to wound rolls

Wledig Crown: Iron Halo +1, basically. Offers Aubrey a 3++ invuln save. Additionally, Aubrey counts as having assault grenades, and any unit he charges must make a blind test. All units overwatchong him must reroll successfull to hit and to wound rpll

Bitter Rage: Aubrey's many years as a warrior slave gave him a harsh determination to meet the enemy's champions in fair combat, and prove his worthy by defeating them, sometimes going to seemingly insane lengths to catch them. Aubrey must give out and acccept challenges whenever possible, and has Hatred: HQ's, LOW's, and Characters. If any character ever refuses a challenge from Aubrey, he gains the Rampage USR, and must always move, consolidate, and run towards that character until he kills them.

Suspicious Reputation: Aubrey's history of conflict with his own brothers and factions of the Imperium leads to great distrust from his allies for Aubrey and his sons, even beyond what his deviant legion had already earned for themselves, and his tolerance for aliens makes him an outcast even among his traitor brothers. If Aubrey takes to the field, all armies count as By The Warmaster/Emperor's Command, regardless of where they sit on the allies table.

Venomous Concoctions: All of Aubrey's melee attacks count as poison 3+. Additionally, every roll of a 6 to hit in melee counts as 2 automatic wounds.

Aubrey is Fun!*. He's obviously a character killer, with his high WS, I, and A, plus poisoned attacks that multiply on a 6, a 2+/3++, and hatred against characters? There are like two characters in the entire freaking game who can fight him and win (Roman and Horus). But, he has some major drawbacks. A 440 point model that does nothing to buff your army is of questionable value, and his absolutely neurotic pursuit of his role as a duelist could potentially lead to him spending the whole game chasing a biker sergeant around the board (with the appropriate benny hill music playing), because if he decides to kill you, he will kill you. Granted, the odds of this happening are relatively low, considering that Aubrey is generally going to be on his own, he's very fast, and with all his bonuses, if your opponent refuses a challenge, he's going to be getting 10+D3 attacks, hitting and wounding on 2's, with rerolls, so even if your opponent does try to pull him off to run around the map, odds are Aubrey will catch whatever character, and eat his entire squad in one charge.
(Sayings of Rosskar, Volume IV, 'Alexandri's Words')

Alexandri of Rosskar was the Primarch of the Fifteenth Legion; the Silver Cataphracts, known for their dour attitudes and utter lack of pride. The tactics of Alexandri were highly controversial, but his was the hand that allowed Terra to be saved by the Void Angels and the Steel Marshals. His potential to seize power in the shattered Imperium led to his assassination by the upper echelons of his Legion and by his own brother, Gaspard Lumey.

History
Youth
Looking back I now know history is much more the product of mayhem than of conspiracy. I never intended to become King, yet I am.

(Sayings of Rosskar IV, pg. 14)

In the ancient gene-laboratories of the Emperor, Primordial Entities cast his sons adrift across space. Only Hektor was raised alongside his Father, while the others were sent to far-flung planets. Alexandri found himself sent to a remote, insular planet of Rosskar. Ancient Rosskar was divided along its three continents into techno-tyrannical Kingdoms. Alexandri landed upon Takuat, the largest and poorest of these states. His pod came across the Northern Expanse, a truly massive stretch of forest populated by the aggressive xeno-foliage and fauna the ice-world is known for. The Frontiersmen were a mix of lumberjack and huntsman, an order of middle-class freemen keeping the Expanse from overruning all of Takuat. Due to the prompting of Lady Wista, nicknamed Mistress of the North for her nearly undisputed control of Frontiersmen lodges, the organization set out for Alexandri's pod. The child rescued would be raised by Lady Wista. Young Alexandri showed aptitude unlike any other pupil, growing up strong. At age twelve, he joined his first frontier patrol. At fifteen, he had mastered every form of mathematical system available to him and could recite Rosskan history from memory.

Alexandri was a servant of Bogumil the Cautious, the King of Takuat. From the time of the first Kingdoms, each realm had fought one another for primacy over Rosskar. Thanks to Alexandri's promising capabilities, the King empowered him to advance the Kingdom against its rivals. Part of this was revolutionizing the serf-levy system, creating a standing army. Due to the restriction on technology, this force was kept at a basic level similar to inferior techno-barbarian hordes on Terra around the same time. Where Alexandri excelled was in administration and logistical ability allowing the fielding of armies more numerous than ever believed possible. Mikael Okriva rose to prominence during this time, a serf with no prospects who joined in Alexandri's landmark Officer Appointment Program, an adult educational project that uplifted previously completely illiterate individuals to comparable standing to the nobility. Though this sent shockwaves through Rosskan society, the deprived Bogumil welcomed the efficiency these staff officers provided.

Eventually through Alexandri's efforts, the Mad King Davolimin of Crazkhan and the Ice-Dame Kalina of Xivan were defeated. Armies routed, provinces pacified, and cities annexed into the realm of Takuat, now the Kingdom of Rosskar. Alexandri was named Warden of the Realm for his efforts, content with this title. Retiring to the frontier, Alexandri focused his efforts on expanding the living space of Rosskar. In his mind, he questioned the status quo but would make a move against Bogumil out of loyalty. This sense of propriety was betrayed due to Wisna, now Queen of Rosskar's entries for Bogumil to destroy Alexandri before he returned. The troops sent however came to join Alexandri after warning him. No ensuing war developed, as a quick coup d'etat ended the hostilities. Though Bogumil was drawn and quartered, Wista was allowed to end the rest of her days in house arrest. Alexandri knew this fate was worse than death for the ambitious woman.

After this, Alexandri abolished the system of servitude effectively ending the slavery of the lower classes. Feudalism followed after, with the lands being overturned to the Kingship. A short civil war began, the vastly outnumbered Vityaz only surviving due to reliquaries of aged power armor. This period ended when Alexandri offered clemency to any who surrendered to him. The remaining Vityaz were increasingly marginalized, but kept certain privileges of wealth and standing. Under Alexandri, Rosskar flourished. The cities expanded thanks to the organized administration. Zlasta Curimin founded the Committee for Living, or commonly referred to simply as the Committee. Zlasta's organization incorporated the the old Frontiersmen lodge system into an expanded, concentrated effort to reduce the voracious forests and the fauna therein into manageable sectors. Alexandri plucked the genius Andrien Duško who used the now opened technological vaults to rediscover the art of voidcraft. In only twenty years after King Alexandri Ibirien the First's reign, the Rosskan population had soared by five hundred percent and were beginning colonization of the stars.

Great Crusade
I am asked, how could you do this? What drove you to surrender so readily, so willingly, when you had fought so hard before? These people are bold to question me like this, but heed my wisdom when I say I held no sadness over the loss of my Kingship.

A crown is only a hat that lets the snow in.

(Quote dated at 996.M30, after being questioned by his brother Primarch Inferox)

At first the Emperor's coming was met with glee and celebration. Alexandri himself was glad that there was a man he could call an equal, someone to ease the weight of ruling off his shoulders. He had no idea what the Emperor's actual position was, more akin to Alexandri's youthful days as a unifying warlord. This made Alexandri make the fateful remark that he'd be happy being nothing more than a Regent, managing the Imperium in the Emperor's Name, not his own. This brought a smile to his Father's face. A knowing smile.

This happiness did not last for long however. Upon learning of the Covens existence, the Emperor immediately acted without consulting his son in any capacity. Time was short, the decision had to be made without hesitation. The Custodes were quick to expunge every trace of the societies from Rosskar. When it turned out that some were being hidden from the Emperor by the Secret Police, more purges continued this time in the hearts of Rosskar's cities. A great many deaths were caused as the Silent Sisters joined the fray, to null the effect of the witches' sorceries.

Alexandri would never forgive his Father for this act, but he understood the necessity of accepting it. Rising up to oppose him was pointless, he was a being above him. Disappoint and failure were two things strong in Alexandri's mind. This time would be no different.

I cast my hand out, and the greatest warriors ever to cross the void leap to obey. But this is not true power. No, the leadership my father gives us all is our real strength.

Never once did the Silver Cataphracts refuse the call to arms when summoned. Due to the massive population of Rosskar the Legion's ranks swelled to the brim, and then spilled over. It was never clear if the Alexandri even once told the truth of the actual size of his Legion. To further add to this blatant growth of Astartes numbers, millions of regular human soldiers were introduced as part of the Legion as the Rosskar Strelky. The Strelky served as a valuable source of support during the Crusades, fighting as an auxiliary force to the Cataphracts main operations.

When not helping the Emperor or his fellow Primarchs however, Alexandri was eager to expand the realms of the Imperium on his own. Using envoys and trusted functionaries, a small portion of his Legion would act in the Emperor's name but obviously make sure certain worlds favored Rosskar as their destination of tithe payment. He searched for worlds either with unrealized industrial potential or low population, high resource worlds. A huge warmachine was forged form the tiny fiefdom he claimed to help fund his ever expanding Legion and auxiliary force. When rumors of a rising amount of Librarians in the Cataphracts came to light, along with reports of witches serving in the auxiliary, it became clear that Alexandri had great ambitions that might upset the balance of order in the Imperium. Still, even if Alexandri broke regulations, he was always loyal to humanity, understanding the Imperium's way was the best way. The Imperial Truth just needed, bending.

His actions created great controversy as sometimes Alexandri would made ridiculous deals to secure peaceful surrender, and others he would be mercilessly swift in destroying whole planets. At a glance his decisions might be decided upon whim, but in fact it was all carefully calculated in his mind. In his mind, all that mattered was occupying planets with the least amount of loss. That is, overall loss. If a planet needed to be taken by brute force, it would be. If a planet could be talked down and negotiated with, it would. Alexandri's liberal approach to dealing with Xenos made some question his methods even more. But a few demonstrations of his disregard for alien life made it clear to all this was not another Aubrey the Grey.

Even though the loyalty of Alexandri was at times questioned, the Emperor knew the nature of his son from the few meetings they had. He was loyal, for he understood a civil war would bring too much needless ruin. And that the Emperor was the right being to unite humanity, just as Alexandri was the right man to unite Rosskar.

The Heresy
Woe to Mankind this day. Pity those who have died on Terra, for it was all in vain. The enemy has achieved the ultimate victory. The sacrifices we made merely ensured they could not enjoy it.
The Silver Cataphracts would have followed Alexandri into hell, not out of admiration, but out of the logic that Alexandri would only go into hell only if it was the best option. Now? But now he was being driven by dreams and fancies, not by reality. An attempt to seize power would only bring further death. With the blessing of Gaspard Lumey, one of the last remaining Primarchs, First Captain Sergei eliminated Alexandri subtly. The assassination was made to look as if the age old Rosskan rebels had finally got him. After living through the trials of his own world's conquest, and everything in between during to the end of the Scouring, Alexandri of Rosskar died from a coward's bullet.
Dark circles have burrowed in deep into his eye sockets and many lines have formed on his face. Even specks of grey and white have touched his beard. All this only adds to his appearance as the iron-fisted ruler of Rosskar. He stands slightly taller than most other Primarchs, but not by much. His Terminator plate is adorned with silver-livery and symbols of the many Vityaz Houses crushed by his hand.

(Attributed to Alexandri after the Emperor's Enthronement.)

Post-Heresy

Unremembered, unnoticed the Primarch went. A short golden age after the Scouring came, when the Traitor Legions were too busy tearing themselves apart and the numerous threats to arrive later had not yet come. No one wanted to press for details, fearing what might come if they looked for them. Gaspard, even if he did not desire it, had brought peace through his sole rule.

Personality
Appearance
Regal is the best word to describe Alexandri. A huge, flowing brown beard that goes down the front of Alexandri's power armour even in combat. Rosskar's unique sun and the planet's own society put an immense stress on the Primarch. He has aged whereas his own brothers have not. Stylistic images of Rosskan Hounds form on the front of his armor, the emblem of his Legion and his own personal crest.

Wargear
Alexandry was known to go into battle with weapons and armor! That's right, he didn't fight naked like Lumey.
He led the Tenth Legion, better known as the Steel Marshals from shortly after the time of his rediscovery until his disappearance during the Scouring. His loyalty to the Emperor and humanity was beyond question, leading to him being venerated as the greatest of the Primarchs. It is sometimes contended that, had he not been lost to mankind, Roman Albrecht would have been fit to rule the Imperium as Regent after the Emperor was crippled.

Like his brothers, Roman Albrecht was the product of the Emperor's scientific and psychic brilliance. And as with all but Hektor Cincinnatus, agents of Chaos stole the infant primarch from the Emperor's laboratory and left him to drift through the timeless warp for ages.

Youth
Fate decreed that the primarch's incubation capsule landed upon the world of Centauri Primus, a planet of nobility and honor. Unlike many of his brothers, Roman Albrecht spent many years alone in isolation in the vast wilds of his homeworld, surviving by wit of his native strength and cunning. The primarch's isolation only ended when Olivaw Albrecht happened upon the feral child while out hunting. Olivaw was a nobleman of solitary nature, the last scion of a proud house who had made peace with being the end of his line. Yet on that day, the nobility of Roman's bearing and the intelligence in his eyes struck Olivaw as something extraordinary. The aristocrat at once felt it was his duty to bring such a fine specimen of manhood from beast-like squalor into the embrace of civilisation. But in the instant it took for that decision to be made, the primarch fled.

Undeterred, Olivaw patiently tracked his quarry and slowly won the wild primarch's trust over a series of weeks. Some days he found the child waiting in the same place they had last met, while on others he spent from dawn until dusk searching in vain. Finally, the child took Olivaw's hand and returned with him to the aristocrat's estate. For want of another name, Olivaw dubbed his adopted son "Roman", for their long days spent roaming the wilds. Once brought into the realm of men, Roman learnt language and the other skills of a nobleman in a few short months. Astonished by his adopted son's prodigy, Olivaw took it upon himself to show Roman all of the world that he could, so that the youth might learn from experience what his father could not teach. It soon became the pattern that Olivaw would walk with Roman about a new place in the morning, and let his tireless son explore on his own initiative in the afternoon. Such a scheme suited the two well in the tranquil lands about the Albrecht estate, but it was ill-suited to the intrigues of the city of Nessus. After lunch, an eager Roman happened upon the manor of Valrious Talon, a rival of Olivaw Albrecht's eager to 'entertain' a kinsman of his foe.

Valrious politely trapped Roman, insisting that the youth view his gardens, gallery, enjoy the fruits of his kitchen, and then sample the best of his cellar. The entertainment went late into the night. Olivaw Albrecht began to search for his son as day turned to night and his enquiries led him to the Talon estate. Although he knew that Valrious would take the visit as an opportunity for an honour duel - and that such a contest would greatly favour the younger, fitter Talon - Olivaw could not resist the bait and willingly walked into Valrious' trap. Centauran gentility masked the deadly consequences for a few minutes. Valrious received his guest with honour and conveyed Olivaw to his son. After giving Roman time to gleefully embrace Olivaw and tell him of the the day's activities, Valrious politely interrupted and reminded his rival that there was business to be settled.

As the blades were brought forth and inspected, Olivaw explained the situation to Roman. The youth's question about the end of the duel brought a silence from his adoptive father, into which Valrious casually interjected, "The duel is to the death, of course." Though he was still a boy in many ways, the primarch already possessed a fine eye for martial prowess and knew that Olivaw didn't stand a chance. When the formalities of the pre-duel concluded Roman snatched up his father's blade and declared that he would answer the challenge to his house's honour. Olivaw saw the look of determination in his son's eyes and agreed, though his heart shrank in his chest at the thought of Roman being killed. Valrious readied himself with a sardonic smile and paid backhanded compliment to the "half-tame" youngster. The primarch's speed and strength quickly wiped the smile from Valrious' face, and seconds later took the head from his neck.

Shocked, Olivaw approached the boy, explaining what this meant. Since it was the House Albrecht that killed Valrious, House Talon would come under the fold of Albrecht, along with their vast network of wealth and power. Brimming with pride at not only protecting his adoptive father, Roman Albrecht had earned his last name and doubled his fathers holdings. It would not be the last time he would defend the honor of House Albrecht. He was quickly inducted into the Couro Prido as a full member, and his ascension was guaranteed.

As the young Albrecht rose to power, gaining fame and dominion over the competing houses, his rivals acted quickly to move against him. Disregarding the ancient Couro Prido, the rival Houses declared Roman a 'barbaric usurper', gathering their forces within their own cities. With outright rebellion not only against Roman, but the Couro Prido, the rival Houses gambled that Roman would step down from his title of 'Master Duelist' and give in to their demands. Much to their surprise, and to the astonishment of the people, Roman declared them renegades and enemies of the Couro Prido, and announced that he would break down their walls and bring them to justice. With great haste the young Primarch gathered his loyal men at arms, utilizing what little armored support they had, and set off to war. The campaigns of the Couro Prido still echo down through the ages to the sons of Centauri today, but suffice it to say that the Primarch's men where almost uniformly victorious. Those of their foes that surrendered honourably were treated with grace and mercy, while those who remained perfidious and defiant were given warrior's deaths.

Victory in the wars of Centauri brought Roman great respect and an unwelcome crown. He was not overly pleased to reign, but he saw rulership as one more duty and strove to perform it well. Unfortunately, Albrecht was not the best judge of character and he often had to call his men to war to put down a rebellion that might not have occurred under the watch of a more insightful monarch. Still, he remained popular and in his five years as King of Centauri he began to learn the arts of statecraft.

The Great Crusade
Roman's apprenticeship would be cut short by the arrival of a mighty giant from the stars. The stranger proclaimed that he was the rightful Emperor not merely of Centauri, but of all the worlds on which men dwelled. According to the traditions of the Cuoro Prido, Roman Albrecht defended his crown against the starfarer in an honour duel. To the astonishment of Albrecht's followers, the two were well-matched and traded intricate parries and ripostes for several hours. Roman quickly took the measure of his foe's skill and believed that there would be laxity there. The primarch was swifter than his foe, but had a shorter reach - no reason to think that either man should be at a great advantage. As the third hour wore on, however, Roman realised that his opponent had yet to show even the slightest sign of fatigue. The primarch's own godly stamina would have permitted him to continue a fight even at this intensity for many days, but the stranger was clearly indefatigable. So Roman Albrecht gambled. Rather than allow the starfarer to wear him down, Albrecht abandoned defence and attacked recklessly. He took a vicious cut to his chin that cleaved through flesh and bone alike, but the opening let Albrecht kick his opponent's legs out from under him and follow up by whipping the stranger's blade away. With a fierce grin, the Primarch raised his weapon for the coup de grace. But before he could deliver the deathblow, he looked into the starfarer's eyes and saw in them only warmth and fatherly pride.

At once, Roman Albrecht realised that he was fighting his father. Worse still, the Primarch realised that he had almost become a patricide. While the Emperor of Mankind - for it was He - stood, Albrecht sagged, then threw himself at his father's feet and begged forgiveness. The Emperor gave a kindly laugh and helped His son stand, explaining that there was no shame in fighting so well and seeing so clearly. Roman was greatly comforted by these words and immediately gave orders to his followers that the duel was without need, for it was the rightful place of a son to serve his father. At the Emperor's prompting, the Primarch also gave instructions for his chancellor to assume governance as regent until such time as his return. After issuing those commands, Roman Albrecht began his long journey to the world of his creation, ancient Terra.

En-route to humanity's birthplace, the Emperor's great voidship rendezvoused with the Expedition Fleet of Hektor Cincinnatus. Roman was greatly impressed by his elder brother and if the worthies of the First Legion questioned the new Primarch's appearance at first they were awed by the martial prowess he displayed when sparring with Hektor. Few could doubt that Roman was a finer blade, even if the match was officially a draw. It is likely that the Emperor had already made plans before even meeting Roman Albrecht, but the demonstration of such skills no doubt affirmed the wisdom of apprenticing the Primarch not to Malcador the Sigilite (the tutor of Hektor, Uriel Salazar and Shakya Vardhana) or Fabricator General Kalkas Tygian (who had shown Arelex Orannis the ways of the Solar System and Mars) but to the Lord Commander of the Imperial Army, Gufarnus Altmakar. Altmakar was a notorious disciplinarian and the living embodiment of the martial traditions of the Unification Wars. He was sparing in his praise for Roman, but it must be said that few drew so little criticism from the old general.

The Hektor Heresy
Post-Heresy
Personality
According to the Imperial Faith, Roman Albrecht had the temper of a fine blade. The Primarch could be ruthless without giving in to bloodlust, merciful without being weak, and proud without possessing a trace of selfishness. Everything Onyx the Indistrucutble thinks of in himself then? In the Institutorum Astartes, he is held up as the example that all Space Marines should strive to emulate.

The truth is never quite as good as the dogma, but it must be said that Albrecht was not merely an extraordinary fighter and general, but a highly honourable and selfless being. But for his hunger for glory, he was almost entirely free from self-interest, and if he often volunteered his Legion for the most daunting assignments he was always ready to listen to those who argued against them being deployed. For Roman Albrecht, it was a good enough thing to serve and a better thing to serve well, and he strove to impart this lesson above all others upon his men. None the less, he did have flaws to his character. The primarch was single-minded and could often be caught off-guard, especially by political developments. A related flaw was his tendency to be too trusting, a fault that would cost the Steel Marshals dearly during the Heresy.

Appearance
Roman was taller than an ordinary man, but he was short for a Primarch - only slightly taller than most of his Astartes. If this bothered him, he rarely showed it. The Sacred Band's short-lived nickname for the newly discovered Primarch, "Short-sword", was quickly forgotten after he bested their champions, then Hektor Cincinnatus himself, in a series of somewhat friendly duels. The Primarch's short-cut brown hair and grey eyes framed a plain face, but Roman's unglamorous appearance did not detract from his natural charisma. He could inspire his men with but a look, and his scowl could rob a foe of courage. His voice was hugely powerful and capable of carrying across the batlefield even without amplification.

The Primarch's chin bore a small scar, a memory of his fateful duel with the Emperor. He did not like to talk about the wound but he was prone to rubbing at the scar when deep in thought.
Wargear: Duelist's Mantle, Honor's Blade, Light, Steel Panoply.

Special Rules: Adamantium Will, Bulky, Crusader, Cuoro Prido, Duelist Exemplarii, Eternal Warrior, Fear, Fearless, Fleet, Furious Charge, Independent Character, It Will Not Die, Lessons of the Primarch, Master of the Legion, Sword of the Emperor.

Duelist's Mantle-In the tradition of the graceful duelists of his homeworld, Roman wears a weighted cloak, used to deflect blows, entangle blades, and distract the enemy. The mantle counts as a specialist weapon for the purposes of gaining a second attack with Honor's Blade, and allows Roman to reroll failed invuln saves of 1 in melee.

Honor's Blade-The famed blade of Roman Albrecht, this sword was reforged from the shattered pieces of Olivaw Albrecht's sword after his death. It is a specialist weapon that strikes with S:U,AP2, Master Crafted, Shred, gaining Instant Death in a challenge.

Light- Roman strongly preferred melee combat to range, but he wasn't so foolish as to not carry a gun. Light is a S7, AP4, Assault 3 weapon with 24 inch range and the deflagrate special rule.

Steel Panoply-It's primarch armor. 2+ 5++ crafted by the high shiggydiggy of Mars, blah blah.

Duelist Exemplarii- Roman has spent his whole life training as a duelist, and as such is the best swordsman in the galaxy. In a challenge Roman gains +1 WS, I, and A. In addition, Roman gains the Parry special rule, allowing him to negate a melee attack made against him in melee on a roll of a 4+, once per fight subphase, rolled after rolls to hit, before rolls to wound.

Cuoro Prido-Roman must give out and accept challenges whenever possible.

Lessons of the Primarch- All units with Legiones Astartes: Steel Marshals gain gain +1 on vehicle and fortification damage charts.

Sword of the Emperor-Roman has the honor of being the Emperor's Knight champion. As such, whenever he takes to the field, select enemy HQ or Lord of War. Roman gains Preferred Enemy against this model.

From a design standpoint, Roman was made to be a combat BEAST; in terms of how he plays, think the bastard lovechild of Fulgrim and Angron, raised on a steady diet of steroids and sword drills. Things he'll beat in a duel: All the major 30k and 40k challenge characters, including Signismund, Abaddon, Jain Zar, Asurmen, and Draigo. Angron? He's roman's bitch. Hektor? Will only inflict 0.2 wounds a round. Even fucking Horus can't take him in a melee. Even many things with Strength D won't be able to kill him, because his insane weapon skill and Parry rule means he's next to impossible to actually hit. but on the other hand, he'll do squat to buff your army, and he's very pricey. It's also worthy of note that he's not fond of tanks or walkers with good AV. A duel between him and Golgothos, for example, will statistically last until the game ends, because both are statistically unlikely to inflict a wound/strip a hull point each round. But even then, due to his insane durability, he'll still tie up any challenger till the end of the game even if he can't beat them. So he'll go through infantry and characters like a Khornate blender through a puppy made of butter, but he'll bounce hilariously off anything T9+ or with an Av of 12+. It's also worthy of note that every basic greater demon will lose in melee, but a couple of demon engines (looking at you, Lord of Skulls) are too tough for him to hurt, and a couple of the forgeworld uber-demons give him problems. The T10 GUO IC is tough for roman to hurt, even with Preferred Enemy and Shred, and Aetos'Rau'Keres will murder the fuck out of Roman in most battlefield scenarios, because he'll fly around above Roman's head dropping Apochalyptic "Fuck your baneblade" blast templates on his head (then again, this is still kind of a victory, because it will take Aetos a few turns to kill him, meaning that you've tied up a 999 point demon with a 500 point model for several turns that he could have been dumping ungodly amounts of psychic rape on your army).

Roman Albrecht was one of the gene-forged sons of the Emperor of Mankind.

Unit type: Independent Character, Infantry.

2+ 4++ crafted by the high shiggydiggy of Mars, blah blah.
