Remember when we talked about how much the Alpha Legion love the concept of the Seeker Squad? Yeah, here is the result of centuries of improving on said concept into something new. Headhunters, or Effrit were the hyper specialized Alpha Legion infantry during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.

Overview
As aforementioned, these were a further refinement of the Seeker concept, the Alpha Legion formed Kill Teams of skilled infiltrators who specialized in creating conditions of all-consuming chaos among the enemy's ranks. They sowed confusion by eliminating key officers, striking key positions, and sabotaging key assets. Had their activities been known by the Galaxy at large, they would have been greatly feared. They were considered to be one of several formations referred to as an Effrit Stealth Squad.

Outside of typical Splinter Cell-shenanigans, Effrit Headhunters also performed a role of Honour Guard for their Primarchs. Yes, like the Black Legion, the Alpha Legion had two Honour Guards with the other being the Lernaeans. Compared to their bulkier counterparts which serve as the generic orthodox bodyguards, the Effrit was the 'hidden dagger', the bodyguards you cannot see which adds a layer of defence for either Alpharius or Omegon.

As the most skilled infiltrators and assassins in the Legion, Headhunters had access to the most advanced wargear the Alpha Legion could provide. This included Combi-Bolters and Astartes Assault Shotguns with specialized Banestrike ammunition designed specifically to penetrate Power Armour, Combi-Volkites, Heavy Bolters, Multi-Meltas, Bolt Pistols, Power Daggers, a shitload of Frag and Krak Grenades, as well as all of them wearing advanced Mark VI: Corvus Armour.

Crunch
On the Horus Heresy tabletop, the Headhunters come in two varieties. The first is called the Headhunter Kill Team which are Fast Attack squads that start with a Banestrike Combi-Bolter, Power Dagger, Bolt Pistol, Venom Sphere on the Prime, Frag Grenades, Krak Grenades, Relentless, Precision Shots (4+), Preferred Enemy (Independent Character), Infiltrate and Scout for 125 points. These guys are a threat to characters of all varieties and will force your opponent to deal with them.

The second variant is called the Effrit Disruption Cadre, and at 145 points you get 5 Recon Marines with 2 wounds and BS5 who are all equipped with specialised Banestrike Shotguns which are simply AP5 Shotguns with Shred, Breaching(6+) and Concussive (1). The Banestrike Shotguns can be swapped out for Nemesis Bolters and each marine is also equipped with a Hydra's Wail Disruption Array that doesn't do any damage to its targets, but instead inflicts -1Ld and disables all Augury and Vox equipment unit the start of the next active player's turn (coincidentally meaning the rule doesn't actually affect Augury Scanners- this needs an FaQ). Five more men can be added to the squad and the whole squad can also take Power Daggers for a fixed 25 points and Melta Bombs for 5 points each.
The Victrix Guard are a specialized Ultramarine formation created by Roboute Guilliman after he was reawakened from stasis.

Overview
The Victrix Guard are in all essence the spiritual successors of the Invictus Guard from the Great Crusade. They are an origination created by Bobby G to be the body guard and envoys of the Primarch and other Ultramarine officials. Considering it was Mr. Politician that created them, the Victrix Guard act as politicians as much as they do warriors, and they regularly study diplomacy and political tactics to help further enforce their Primarch's will and orders to the Imperium.

The Victrix Guard are lead by Cato Sicarius after he lost his job of the Second Company when he was missing in the Warp for about 10 years, and are made up of a combination of Ultramarine Veterans and Honour Guard units. A contingent accompanied Guilliman to Terra, while another contingent was sent to Vigilus with Marneus Calgar to aid in the defense of the planet, however most of these where made up of Primaris Veterans, with "bitchin" shields and helmets to boot.

On a side note "Victrix" is latin for Victress (A female victor/champion), meaning the Victrix Guard translates into "Victress Guard" or "Guard of Champion women". <s>Ironic considering all Space marines are male, and once again showing that while GW "knows" history they seldom take the time to fully research it.</s> Historically, all the Roman legions were named with feminine names such as Ferrata or Fulminata, likewise all continents were given feminine names as well (Europa, Africa, Asia...) by the Romans; the two last faiths of the Romans before full conversion to Christianity were the solar cult of Sol Invictus, the Unconquered Sun, rising from the realm of night and bringing back activity and light in the world of men, and the cult of Victoria, latin name for the Greek goddess Nike, who survived even unto Christianity, and influenced along with Hermes the antropomorphism of angels (who looked weirder in pure Judaism): in the Imperium this is paralleled by the winged Living Saints of the Ecclesiarchy. Hence, the "Victress" of this special corps might simply be a dedication to a blend of Astartes cult (goddess both of war and love, as was Aphrodite in Sparta) and mainstream imperial religion. Hence, this time, G.W. didn't actually messed up (though whether they gave them stats and rules reflecting the Victrix Guard's lore is another story).

As Honour Guards of the 42nd Millennium, the Victrix Guard carries around things both similar but different than its predecessors. Whilst they still carry identifiable weapons/equipment such as a Bolter, Power Axe, Power Sword and a Storm Shield. They also wear a unique Mark X: Tacticus/Artificer Armour combo, making them resemble more like the old Invictus Guard than anything new despite being Primaris. It is most likely intentionally done by Roboute out of sentimental and political value.

On the Tabletop
The Victrix Honour Guard have a fairly decent stat line, being essentially Honour guard with an extra wound, 4 attacks and with the Bolter and Power Axe replaced with a Storm Shield and Power Sword (which is a bit odd as their 30k equivalent wield axes). They come in groups of two, and while the lack of a ranged option makes them a bit inflexible and the Power Sword has slightly limited their killing potential, the Storm Shield more than makes up for this, as any charging character killer will have to punch through a total of six wounds with a 3++ invuln, before getting to your Warlord. They can also make Heroic interventions meaning you can actually cover a fair bit of an area with a unit of these guys and protect multiple Characters with them.

There is also a Specialist detachment in Vigilus Defiant, to give all Captain, Honour Guard and Veteran Squad units in a detachment the VICTRIX GUARD key word, which gives them access to unique stratagems, relics and warlord traits.
